Hey scotty, I'm looking for a new 4x4 vehicle. I duck hunt, fish, and my wife and I like to kayak. I live in an area where I have to use 4x4 on a 02 f150 fx4 with knobby tires to pull a 18ft aluminum boat up my "driveway". I'm wanting something more reliable, and unfortunately the wife is resistant to a manual transmission. Was looking at early 90's jeep Cherokee's with 4.0L 4x4. Anything else I should be looking for if a deal comes up?
What about white smoke with NO coolant lose and its hot out?
Hey Scotty my 07 Dakota 220k miles this spring it’s spitting more water out the exhaust than I have ever noticed....
scotty, these short videos are causing youtube to not send notifications for whatver reason. i tried to ring to bell on your shorts channel and youtube wouldnt allow it and it might do the same to this channel
Why does my 2007 jeep patriot idle rough while in drive? It only happens at a dead stop in drive. It's the limited edition
My Car was smoking heavily until I put a nicotine patch on it....
Keep your day job. You're about as funny as a bad case of hemorrhoids🤷🏻♀️
Thats was hilarious.
No laugh= No funny know
😁 ok.

@@babygirl9057 Scotty liked it. Joke approved!
and if it's PINK then congratulations! you have a GIRL!!
Hahaha, good one 👍
If it's light blue then congratulations! You have a boy!!

So stuoid

I thought white smoke meant they elected a new Pope.
🤣
It's that cool until god's message send to your mechanic email before reporting to you for praying dearly.

Finally.. Glad to see scotty pop up in the shorts feed. Much better now
Thats was I tought before xd
My lawnmower started smoking the other day and I was wondering what it could be, then here comes Scotty.
If your lawnmower smokes green you’re burning too much weed🤣🤣🤣
@@myway3343 😝
The answer is always to dump more fuel obviously
You’ve probably overfilled the oil if there is too much it sloshes around into the cylinder and will smoke bad
It ain't got no gas in it mmhmm
I love Scotty's sense of humour and vast knowledge of cars. I wish he lives an extra 100 years so I keep learning about cars.
You plan to live and drive to a hundred?

Does green smoke mean it's St. Patrick's Day?
No, it means too many Jalapenos in its diet!
Nah that just means you've started to use vegetable oil in your diesel lol jk
No, it means your engine has been hanging out with stoners
No it means you'll be coming up ☝ with some cash 💸💸 and lots of it.
It means you're going green without a TESLA.
My mechanic said the white bluish smoke was a problem with head gasket as I was using a quart of oil a month and catalytic converter or new engine. He has 35 years experience, a friends 27 year old son asked when was the last time I had changed the PCV valve, Had no clue what that was, turns out the part on my 2001Z28 cost 5.99 cents and took just less than 3 minutes to replace. Problem solved within 2 minutes. Smoke completely clear. 5.99 part versus 4,200 engine replacement. You're welcome.
This was happening to my wife's Nissan Murano. We've probably had 10 oil changes in the last 3 years and when we took it to get checked, the guy comes back and says she needs a new engine. How?? There is white smoke coming out the pipe and I thought it was something to do with the head gasket but Nissan said we neglected to get enough oil changes and denied our claim to fix it. It's fully synthetic oil, how is that even possible? Now I see this post about the PCV valve and it makes complete sense to me.
Thank you for this option. I had no idea this was even a thing.
We need to protect Scotty at all costs people
He can be misinformed and pretty biased at times I would seek a better role model for yourself
@@joserivera8321 it's not that serious man

I went and looked at a Dodge Challenger with a 5.7 hemi in it the other day and I heard Og Scotty words of wisdom whisper in my ear “I’d die before I bought a used hemi”
Very smart move because the dummy factor is 88% on this type of choice and people will always make the wrong decision. In Chrysler is banking on it.
Hahahaha I bought mine used with 10k miles 2019! She’s been reliable so far
If you buy the police model with the 5.7 you get a steal! The police department does all the maintenance on it including fixing fhe lifter issue. Great buy. They're reliable too
@@AustinRides7264- this is correct. Got mine like this. Runs like a champ.
Smoke signals. 🤣 Thank you Chief Kilmer!
And Blue 🔵 smoke means your burning Oil usually from worn piston rings, or bad Valve stem seals.
Scotty... You amaze me with all the knowledge you have and share! I continue to watch... Even with me working on my own vehicles since I was 16! Now I'm 65. Yep...
With experience comes knowledge!!!
I've had 3 Toyota Camry in past years. Not disappointed
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
3 camry? 1 should last a lifetime what years did u buy an what problem did they have so i know too stay away
it doesn't ALWAYS mean bad piston rings or bad valve seals, but it does mean that the engine is burning oil. Some oil will naturally make its way past the rings and seals REGARDLESS if it's brand new because nothing is perfect.
edit: you will most commonly see this from a cold start because the engine parts haven't come up to operating temp which means the seals are going to be slightly more spaced out more than normal from their mating surfaces.
They really should make classes with people like him for kids to have a early start as mechanics.would be interesting what kinda mechanic would be if taught from junior high day 1 at a advanced degree.
White smoke coming out? We have a new pope! : D
Genius 😂😂😂😂
😂
What if you're not catholic?
scotty doesn't know
For burning oil, I wouldn’t recommend just going straight for pistons rings. As someone who’s owned a lot of shitcans inspect the motor. I’ve seen a lot more valve stem seals than rings fail!
Back in the 1960s my friends and I drove around in an old Corvair that burned so much oil the joke was " fill 'er up with oil and check the gas. A guy in a chopper with no muffler was behind us at a red light reving his motor. Jerry gunned that Corvair twice and you couldn't even see the guy or cycle. Good times! We used 50 weight oil in that sucker.
I had a VW rabbit that did the same thing! it cost me more in oil to make a 350 mile trip than it did in gas!🤣
When cars were cars. And men loved them. 🙂👍
Damn it these videos are so useful and yet I know I won't remember this tomorrow.
I thought that black smoke and pipes meant that I drive an old British Roadster with a Zenith-Stromberg downdraft carburetor?
Hey man I’m very impressed with the videos you’re putting out and please keep on doing it because most people don’t know what is wrong with their cars or trucks and you’re a blessing to us all. Thank you so much.I would suggest you get a channel I am sure that you would get millions of people turned into your channel
Indeed a really good short video. Thank you Scotty.
I was driving behind a guy who’s exhaust was smoking and I could smell oil so I waited till I got to a light and got next to him and was able to get his attention and told him that his engine was burning oil and to get it checked out and he was actually very appreciative for me telling him because working in a welding shop that uses oil to cut stuff and no the smell of burning oil all too well
Scotty is such a treasure lmao
Dude seems like a really nice guy 👍🏼
Great info for those who don't know...
Fantastic work, mate!
What about if my exhaust shoots flames when two-stepping 🔥 ?
🤣
Always thank you, Scotty.
Good video as always. I always laugh at Subarus and Hondas that blow smoke off the line, they probably dont know their future :)
This guy is always so enthusiastic! You can tell he genuinely cares about helping others
He went from wrking on cars for a living to talking about them for a whole lot more.
White can be head gasket or catalytic converter, unbolt your exhaust right after the cat let it hang down, pressurize the coolant and see if any leaks out before you start tearing apart the engine👍🏻
Yep I have that issue right now with my 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring. It's running too rich where I put my fingers and see black dirt on my fingers. On top of that I hear rattling sounds in my catalytic converter I believe when I raise my car between 2K or 3K RPM. I will fix that since I am a student at a community college majoring in automotive mechanics.
What is the right color to know its running normal?
@Musketeer Oliver wow. I dont remerber tha last time i saw that.
Depends on ambient temperature
Ive been watching this man for the last 3 years and i am at the moment a young mechanic and i take everything this man says as if it was the word of god people like him are rare
This was perfectly timed as my started smoking white
I already knew all these, but had to watch and make sure Scotty wasn't messing with you.
Ty Scotty for making these Smoke 💨💨💨 🧰 🛠 🔦 Easier 2 Understand 🤔💬💬💬 ☑️
I liked your " little tea pot" pose. I automatically started singing "I'm a little teapot, short and stout, here is my...."
White smoke doesn't necessarily mean head gasket could be intake gasket
The way he said MEANS!!😂😂
Life tip: don't touch the exhaust when hot 😂
Hello from the Philippines, Scotty!
Scotty for these years of hard work 😃 thank you a million times a whole bunch of people including ME learned a lot from YOU ... ..😊😊
This man’s energy…. It’s amazing I love it.
i just love the energy you put throgh the videos it makes my day. much love
It you also do an air intake cleaning for your Throttle Body & Intake Manifold or directly spray Intake valve cleaner into your Intake valve openings through your Spark plug housings and white smoke comes out that is a good sign that you are cleaning carbon deposits from your Intake system as well as your Intake valve chambers.
I once told an apprentice I was training the same thing; "if a car is giving you these _smoke signals!"_ Haha it's cool to hear Scotty saying it too!
This is a super helpful format, very concise useful information
Keep up the great work, Scotty. Your videos have saved me untold amounts of money in repairs and shop fees. So glad to see you're still out there and revving your engines. 🤙🏻
I wasn't gonna sub because I myself know all this stuff. But he's so cool, I subbed...

Scotty, I really enjoy your delivery attitude!
was at his family dinner and the nephew showed up in the straight piped shitter lmao
Haha "now you know..." Coolest guy ever !!!
Blue smoke is just as often valve stem seals. Reading blue smoke is a matter of when it smokes. Bad valve stem seals will cause blue smoke on start up after the vehicle has sat for a while, or after it sits idling for a while, but generally not while diving down the highway.
Bad rings will cause blue smoke all the time.
Down here, smoking vehicles are a blessing in the summer time. Cuts down on mosquitos 😎
My sons 97 Tacoma went through two catalytic converter’s and his tail pipe was very black. After a few hours of diagnosis we figured out it was the fuel injectors. Changed all of them and now his truck runs like a dream. The injectors were so bad. They had 280,000 miles on them. He also picked up about 4 miles per gallon lol
He gives Saul Goodman vibes.. i love this guy!
That Z is always burning oil though lol
Thanks for all these great videos, I hope i get a 90s Celica
Man u always help me out bro lol u make really simple not like these othere channels
I got black smoke, but that is because it is a tuned diesel witch dpf is removed😂

This man is a legend.
Very informative guy 💖🇵🇭
Scotty was so excited for that emding lol
Scotty, you are the greatest, thanks for all you do!
Scotty Kilmer is a world champ! Great shorty!
Some cars are tuned a little rich from the factory, especially high revving Hondas. Nothing to worry about on that one unless it has other symptoms as well. Especially if the soot smells like unburnt fuel, if the soot has no smell to it then the slight richness is fine.
Lean is the motor killer anyways, running rich will just hurt your MPG and may foul up your spark plugs at worst. Heavily lean especially on a boosted motor can spell instant death in just one pull if the AFR gets low enough.
White smoke can just mean you need to change your oil.
Black is usually a fuel problem.
Unless it's a diesel.
Yeah my 20’ Civic si ; oil levels says 30% but we usually change it at 40-50% nd I been driving way more and randomly yesterday its been excessive smoking and Ima do
A oil change and see whats up today
@@Jmarzx Yeah more than likely just oil needs to be changed.
Thanks brother, Also, I think I learned you were 101st. Army? Army Veteran here too bro! Good to meet ya, thanks for teachin!
His son is the army 101st
Thanks for the tips as always!
How do you correct the running rich?
I’ll keep an eye out for white smoke on Subarus whenever it’s warm from now on
So much to learn from Skotty!
White smoke could also be turbo or valve stem seals depending on when the smoke comes
I love this guy lol, I think you might of just fixed my problem
Kilmer: your engine was running too rich
Engine: i got over 5 billion dollars he called me rich
Guys I know what engine running rich means it's just a joke
Thanks for the Info, Scot! ❤
