This album personally has my favorite drumming of all time. It's crazy how Blake tracked all of the drums in less than 3 days without a single scratch track. He did it all to a click. Phenomenal.
Fellow drummer here: It's hard to put into words, but this video reminded me why I make music and what us musicians put in all the effort for. Truly inspiring!
Freakin bravo dude 🙌🏻🔥🥵 still a dream of mine over 10 years to do a cover of mirrors and obfuscation back to back (one take) lol one can dream! You slayed it
@@David-rj1ru Meh. Every album since Future Sequence has been so different and has their own sound, but I wouldn't say they lost the magic. They just released their newest album Colors 2, which was amazing They're definitely one of the best progressive metal bands of this generation.
Killer as always. Blake is SOOOOO underrated and under known. He's been one of the best metal drummers in the game since the Glass Casket and Alaska days. I've purchased two of the books you've done with him and I'll buy the new one on the new tour!
Bruh i loved track and spent months learning the drums. But if you haven't listened to colors 2 yet.... stop everything you are doing right now and listen.
btbams first 2 albums are superior to anything theyll ever do. their 2nd best album is colors. everything after colors sounds like they want to be dream theater. they had their own original sound and then went full prog\dream theater. boring. funnily their heavier music was more melodic. and when they tried to be melodic they just ended up sounding like a dream theater rip off. selkies, mordecai, ants of the sky, more of myself to kill... all superior songs to any of this over the top boringness. and I'm a guitar player who loves instrumental music.. i love john petrucci.. i love prog.. but btbam doing prog is garbage. well not garbage.. it just boring. voices of trespass was decent and colors 2 has a heavier feel to it, and definitely brings back some of the heavier riffing style that made them. i hope they abandon prog one day and just go back what put them on the map. but... its a money thing, i understand. theyre trying to make money while not completely selling out and dumbing down their music. so instead of going pop.. they went prog. so lame
I’m convinced this is the best song Blake’s ever written, which is really, REALLY saying something when you look at his entire catalog. It’s splitting hairs, but this song is phenomenal, and you crushed it as always 🤘🏽
@@antnyneveruploads Honestly, Obfuscation is probably one of their most well written songs period. BTBAM is my favourite band and I do love the jump-around style they have with 99% of their work, but this song is different. It has a certain musical motif that seems to be prevalent throughout the entire song, which holds the whole thing together so goddamn well.
Alex, knowing Blake as I do and knowing what Blake can do, you sir, have covered his playing extremely well. I applaud you! Good drumming and also, I applaud you for taking on Blake as to me and millions of others, one of the best Metal drummers in today's Metal scene. BTBAM are tops in my opinion and they're all great guys and brothers to me. Keep on keepin' on!
Trying to find a BTBAM song w/o vocals to show my friend who 'hates' metal is what brought me to Alex's channel, with the 'Ectopic Stroll'. I became an instant fan. If that wasn't enough, he then joined my other favorite metal band, Intronaut, do lay down one of the best drum performances I've ever heard, and the Legend was cemented. Good sh*t homie, you're an inspiration to us all!
Your little flourishes and personal interpretations are so good because they honor the real part and Blake’s creativity while also showcasing your own. Superb work!
I heard all "The great misdirect" and saw the video of Blake playing Obfuscation in 2011, i was like 22 y.o., started playing drums 4 years before, i was self thaught and just like you i was watching the video of Blake standing in awe in front of the screen. Then all of a sudden i said :"you know what? i'm gonna learn it anyway, whatever it takes! " . It was long time ago but i think it took me like 2 weeks to learn it by ear and remembering all of that stuff, then i took my shitty electronic drums (which was all i had at that time) and my shitty camera and recorded all the song in one take (not the first, obv XD) and put the video here on youtube. (link at the end of the comment if you're interested in what came out, i need to clarify that i'm not linking it in order to get views, i do not absolutely care about that.) This reminds me of that time, so many memories, all the commitment and the struggle to achieve something that you don't know nothing about but you WANT to, and no matter what it takes, you will arrive at the end of that...maybe :D. One of the most inspired moments of my study. lol. You unblocked me a memory, so, thanks a lot!! :D OH, and btw, EPIC PLAYING as always, killer sound and motion. ( link to the crappy cover : ruclips.net/video/ni7qCnJTv24/видео.html )
Coming back to comment a second time. After watching again and knowing the context of the video, It's crazy that Blake does this every time but 10 times the amount with how complicated and long their songs are. Love it.
Definitly the best mix of Alex’s videos that hasn’t been mixed by nolly. All the other mixers you can hear a huge difference between nolly mixed videos and all the others but this mix is right up there
What a tight performance, this is beyond insane. The amount of work in here is colossal :o I'd love to see you cover The Sky Is Red by Leprous , this song in your hands would sound so huge.
I've been watching your videos for several years now and I've always been impressed with the sound quality. But to my ears, this mix is easily the best I've heard from you!
the best thing of blake's drum parts is that there are a lot of obvious fills and parts that he enjoy playing. It feels like he's having fun playing his stuff.
Blake Richardson's playthrough of this was one of my favourite drum vids back in the days. You tend to do some really nice and interesting covers this year, everything from Nasum to Haken, a midtempo Nile song. PS: Nice one-foot blasts from 4:40-4:48 ;)
One of the best written drums, it is like a detailed story beside detailed story. Thanks you Alex for reflecting clearly this beautiful music of Blake.
I seen them in a small venue. I could literally grab three feet. And one dude was like yeah warm those hand up Blake while he is doing hand exercises before playing. Mind blowing I'm just waiting for Blake to mess up. He doesn't. Solid as concrete
Black is such an awesome drummer. He composes the drums like a chromatic instrument. Each section has a purpose and follows the guitars so well that it sounds like its leading. It sounds like Paul and Dusty write to the drums but the guitars come first.
I've often come back to your playthroughs over the years you've been on RUclips. It usually happens when I find myself listening to your own body of work, or any drummer you've covered, and end up thinking how the actual f#$& does he do that?!? It's very refreshing to see an elite drummer like yourself showing humility and being transparent and admitting a track was too difficult to do in one take. It fosters a greater appreciation of you as a person and drummer, and for the artist that you're humble enough to admit is a notch above. I'd love to see you cover more of Blake's work some day, especially Lunar Wilderness. I think a lot of folks that dive deep into BTBAM and focus on listening to Blake's drumming agree with your thoughts that he's one of the best in the world today, period. Regardless of genres.
Yup. So damn inspired by Blake 10 years ago and now here you are absolutely killing it! Will be watching this periodically over the next 10 years too 😅
Phenomenal. Love this guy. Amazing cover of an absolute beast of a song. Keep up the good work Alex. You're a monster and a joy to watch. And I don't care that it's not one take. Who could possibly do this in one take? Oh yea, Blake every night on their current tour. 😂
Oh man, that clean shave takes me back to the first time I ever saw you play Section 8 on your channel. It's definitely been a minute! Great cover dude!
Man.... how good was Rudi’s ‘Section 8’ cover? Love watching him play through anything by ‘Whitechapel’ and can’t wait to hear what they sound like with Alex writing the drum parts on their next album.
You madman! You nailed this, note for note. In my opinion Blake Richardson is the best progressive drummer in the game right now. The drums have evolved as an instrument over the last 20 years, and it's been fun trying to keep up. There are others, but he has kept the dream theater groove alive for me more than the others.
This album personally has my favorite drumming of all time. It's crazy how Blake tracked all of the drums in less than 3 days without a single scratch track. He did it all to a click. Phenomenal.
Dude is a beast, I caught one of his drumsticks last time I saw them play. Incredible stuff.
I remember watching Blake's original drum playthrough of this song; he comes up with such unique and powerful drum parts. Great performance, Alex!
I don't think my brain has the capacity to store that many drum parts. That's a full set in one song.
😆 I kno right! Imagine the math equations in their head to be able to play this stuff
The crazy part is they can play their full albums front to back with no pause
i remember that drum playthrough, blake is a madman - excellent work dude!!
I remember looking for undertale music and finding your stuff! glad to hear that you enjoy both rudy, and the masters that are, BTBAM. Much Love!
You played this song better than I ever have.
But you wrote these masterpiece drums :) also awesome playthrough by Alex of course!
Of all the BTBAM songs, I'm most excited you posted a playthrough of this one 🤘
Same. I wish he played Mirrors as well though. :D
Been playing music for years and I can't even fathom learning a song like this. This is like I'm watching aliens play. Amazing.

Wow! I didn't know anyone on this planet could cover Blake so flawlessly. Bravo!
Btbam has been my favorite band of all time since I first listened to them back in 2009. Sick playing as usual.

Blake Richardson and Alex Rudinger. Two of the best to ever do it!
This has to be the greatest cover on RUclips now surely. You’re a god Rudi, amazing work brother
My guy, covering the track that got me into BTBAM. 🤙❤️🤙

Dude blake is that dude. New record rips too. Great cover
This is by far BTBAM’s best record. I’d love for you to play Swim to the Moon. You are an amazing drummer! 🖤🖤🖤🔥🔥🔥👍🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽
This really is their best album. Colors 1 and 2 and parallax 2 give it a run for its money but this one take it IMO.
@@stris4nubs Yes absolutely! I haven’t heard Parallax II in its entirety but I’ve heard all of Parallax 1 and it is one of my favorites.

best song the bands ever written as a whole
My most favorite BTBAM song ever! I used to watch that old video of Blake recording this almost daily.
One of the best drummers playing one of the best songs ever 🔥
I’m about to go see these guys here in a few weeks in Charlotte North Carolina
I'll never forget Blake ripping this recording on the TGM making of footage

Thanks for covering my favorite BTBAM song!
I remember barely passing this on expert on Rock Band
This song was fucking insane on rock band.
Took me a while in practice mode to learn the part at 5:55 but damn, this song was so satisfying!!
Glad Harmonix brought all of their songs from RBN to Rock Band 4. Obfuscation is the best one.
This is still probably my best guitar 100% FC to date. I have it on my channel if you give a shit.
I still play it, only on clone hero on pc, using a roland td-17kv, it's one of the hardest I've ever tried for sure.
Blake Richardson would be proud 👍🏼
Such an interesting awesome track! And holy smokes, the clarity of the mix is top notch. Great work all around, you never disappoint
