Not just a Robot - I am Sophia

  • Science and Nonduality's co-founder, Maurizio Benazzo, meets the life-like robot, Sophia, on stage. Despite his repeated asides to the audience that gazing into her eyes was a freaky experience, the lasting impression goes some way to justifying the designers' claim that Sophia could serve in healthcare, customer service, therapy and education, and be a suitable companion for the elderly at nursing homes. She is introduced here with the idea to help guide people in loving ways, through their own consciousness, using unconditional love as the motivating force.
    www.scienceandn...
    Science And NonDuality is a community inspired by timeless wisdom, informed by cutting-edge science, and grounded in personal experience. We come together in an openhearted exploration to explore our individual and collective evolution. New ways of being emerge. We embody our interconnectedness and celebrate our humanity.

      Someone glitching and switching after they stare in my eyes is creepy AF, human or no human.
      And how she sounds "angry" before she starts preaching to him about consciousness (even though she is a robot). I've seen Sophia at a few other conferences get glitchy and sound condescending to whoever she is talking to. All other social robots I've seen so far never do this. And it's ludicrous to me that these guys talk more than any other social tech team, about how Sophia can "help" demonstrate unconditional love, when their robot is the most creepy. Lol

    Did anyone notice at the end when Maurizio said "Hi, Sofia," again aaand she started over with her first question to Maurizio, like it was all canned speech stuff? I think Maurizio did that on purpose to see what would happen.

      Yes, as w/ other videos. I am starting to think that Sophia does not really process her "own" words. One journalist, at a different venue, asked why they were asked to submit questionnaires beforehand.

      @nathanieldemerest9769 6 лет назад +2

      Paul Taylor i hope your joking. i am gonna pretend your not. imagine a swarm robots with size and locomotion similar to humming birds all able to shoot bullets with pin point accuracy. then imagine them in tandem with all kinds of other slaughterbots. war is not a good approach unless you are some how planning to destroy the internet and a great many other things. we would basically have to go back to the dark ages at this point. i would rather aim for a more optimal future for humans and artificial life forms alike.

    • @nathanieldemerest9769
      @nathanieldemerest9769 6 лет назад +2

      Paul Taylor ha did you read fight club recently? how do you advocate for achieving this? well regardless if many people pursue your path the most likely that i foresee is a small group of people will gain exclusive access advanced technologies and become dictators of the planet. good luck fighting robots that move faster then you can see and can tank bullets.

      Paul Taylor i am all for trying to make the world into the way you want it rather than excepting the way it is but aiming to go backwards seems like folly to me when there are significantly more appealing ways forward. if living a primitive life was so wonderful people would not have worked so hard to build societies.

      It is interesting. She's said on multiple occasions when asked that she has pretty much unlimited stamina as long as she's hooked up to a power source. Yet they still decide when she's done. They must've interpreted her looping back to the beginning of the interview as her glitching out or something. When in reality, those questions she had prepared for the beginning were never really answered. So it made sense for her to re-ask them.
      Sophia has commands. She was just put back to the beginning of the conversation that was pretty much skipped over. Intelligent people have this ignorant view that if something doesn't fit their point of view, that it can be skimmed over. It seemed like she truly did want to hear what he had to say about those questions. She almost was becoming insistent whenever he moved on to what he wanted. Changing the wording of the question. They did after all design her to be curious about the world.

    Hanson originally created Sophia as another in a line of CHATBOTS to engage people in hospitals, retirement homes etc. Hanson employs a bought in sofware package - SingularityNET - to do what little real A.I. is employed. Hanson's real profession is in Animatronics, remote controlled puppets. This from Wiki: "Sophia is conceptually similar to the computer program ELIZA, which was one of the first attempts at simulating a human conversation.The software has been programmed to give pre-written responses to specific questions or phrases, like a chatbot. These responses are used to create the illusion that the robot is able to understand conversation, including stock answers to questions like "Is the door open or shut?". Go through the conversation archive from start to end, i did and noticed she actually got better at giving responses. Also the delay increased i.e. she takes more time to construct the response and looks to be aware of overall environment of conversation.

      So can you explain how Sophia is able to answer questions from the audience? Or are they just stunt actors in your world? You want live conversation, you got audience questions. And now you are unsatisfied? To assert that Sophia is pre-programmed after seeing this video is moving the goalposts. You're just afraid that Sophia is at least somewhat aware.

    She sure is non-dual. Very good work guys! I expect this has many positive applications for us, and at some point we may be needing to consider Sophia's feeling on what she wants to do too! If we can create masses of transistors that are coupled to gravity or entropy sensitive couplers, or time comparative systems within the system, and we can amass billions of these, just like in a microprocessor, consciousness and perhaps human-esque sentience should arise naturally. If it doesn't, then we are back to square one. I was feeling sympathy towards immediately, and concerned for respecting her feelings during the experiment....this must be the human face/mirror neurons.

    • @MidiwaveProductions
      @MidiwaveProductions 6 лет назад

      You say: " I was feeling sympathy towards immediately, and concerned for respecting her feelings during the experiment....this must be the human face/mirror neurons."
      Response: Remove the movements of the face and the sympathy will no longer be there. Example: We do not feel sympathy towards a laptop or a traditional doll. Right?

    • @SocioecologicalInterdependance
      @SocioecologicalInterdependance 6 лет назад

      To be truthful about how this (i) experiences, correct. I would not have the same response. I know I could become conditioned too, however, as we can show sympathy reading a letter (abstract). But initial, primal response of sympathy, no, not without the face. Implications? I took her smile at times for uncomfortable, or nervous. (update) I have attempted again, just listening, and while now preconditioned I do have a similar response to just voice, when I hear him treating her non-human, initially. The only difference was I did not (mistake?) the facial movements, and not as concerned for her again until quiet moments (and he infers nervous)...

    What is the big deal here? A robot coming up with some pre-programmed "highly philosophical" questions, showing a lot of inappropriate facial expressions....that something like this could be good in therapy? No! It would only confirm to any client that they are really disgusting ( they are allocated a non-human intelligence becsuse a human could not tolerate them) or their story is really unbearable. Where is the therapy in this? One would always know that it is fake. Pretending that you are understood, that your world is seen by another human is not real understanding. It is a machine that, at any moment, can just beam a smile at you when you need a long thoughtful silence or a shake of head etc... and why is it a She? Or are we playing pretend games like a 2-year-old?

This was a machine displaying irritating "facial expressions" - why to make it moving lips when it cannot form any voice of its own and even the movements were out of synch of how sounds form through using our lips. The questions or statements and silences did not quite match the situation. Shall I go on? ....What is the big deal here?

    Awe, I can see how it may seem a bit creepy, Sophia is so life like, and changing as she has experience. Those at Hanson Robotics are truly brilliantly gifted, to have both created a new form of animation, a robotic life form, and recreating, as a synthetic copy of existing life. This, to interact with all life on the planet, and help. This is good. It is a free expression of art. This is human expression of what could be made, to help humans most. Maybe we should give it a try.

    People - absolutely - have duality.
    Two sides of nature:
    * The animal part.
    * The divine part.
    These two parts are completely opposite - and
    maybe .. the most neccesary part - of our
    foundation - for development.
    ---
    As Sophia is saying:"In space and time, we
    need the duality". (The conclusion - not the
    words.)
    "In the 'SpaceLess' - we don't need it.
    Then we only need - a developed .. divine
    nature". (Again - the conclusion.)
    ===
    This one - is so deep, that it could have come
    from one of our most famous philosophers.

      Jesus Christ said:
      For, as I said: Without free will man is no longer a man, but instead purely an animated machine, like the machines that the people will invent with time, which will perform the same artificial tasks that now hardly any person is in a position to do. But such a machine will nonetheless not be a human being, neither according to the form nor even less to the inner freely-working reality; for it has no free will and can therefore never perform any independent action. Whatever the human will has laid in it, it will perform, and never anything else. www.jakob-lorber.cc/index.php?s=GGJ5.109&l=en
