Dad lost two Cape Island fishing boats during hurricanes. The boats were well secured but the water was stronger and smashed both boats up against the rocks into thousands of pieces. I do remember one hurricane where on the lower part of the island the water went right across the island. A part of my life that I wouldn't change for anything.
We use to live in the middle house, but when we first went there we lived in the old drafty house until all the new buildings went up. Behind the lighthouse itself there is a section of gray rock that look like steps that go right into the ocean, they were called the Devil's Footsteps. D

Well done indeed, Gezele. Very few kids can say they had a life like ours. We even had a Cape Islander named after us, The Marion Gerard, remember?

Why on earth would vandals go to all the trouble to go to a lighthouse only to burn down one of the buildings? It doesn't make sense.
