The M21-14G is one of my favorite folders. I've pried open drawers when I lost the key to my desk, batoned it, cut wire, cut braided steel lines, and just generally beaten the hell out of it and it held a great edge and never chipped out on me and the few times I have had to resharpen it, the thing took an edge with ease. Honestly I would trust it with my life
The SFG's are cool. 4 way position clips. Dual Studs. Guards/handstops that can be used as flipper/wave as well as a striking point. Makes a great kubaton too. Probably my gate way drug to bigger knives. I've never looked back since...:)
I really like the CRKT knives. The Carson designs are probably my favorite designs. I own the M16 with the half serration (wish I bought with out serrations) and the M21. Both are great but the best part I like doesnt have to do with the knife but with the service from CRKT itself. I had the screws fall out of the pocket clip and it took no time at all to get replacements over the web. great products and service keeps me coming back to CRKT.
re: 15:12 - the K stands for Key, from the CMYK colour scale where black is called K or Key, the rest being Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. It's a guess as to why the K is on there in the first place, but if it refers to the colour black then this is the connection. geek factoid there for ya to clear up the confusion.
I’ve had CRKT M16 different models and each I loved and used like a workhorse for years I’ve had my M16-01s for roughly 5-8 years now and I still use it as a everyday carry knife. The knife has been a true reliable tool.
I love my M16-14SFG. I've had it for about 12 years now as my duty knife and EDC. I've put it through hell and it has held up great. My gripes: - Does not hold an edge all that well but will stay sharp enough for most everyday applications - The serrations are not great. They bend/chip easily and are impossible to sharpen. - They tend to lose screws...clip screws...frame screws...and they aren't the easiest things to find/replace. My take: Great knife! I would recommend either the M16 or M21 all day long, but go with a spear point or tanto without serrations, and invest in a torx driver to tighten the odd screw as they loosen.
After I removed the "safety" this became one of my favorite knives. Unfortunately it no longer is a part of the rotation because of it's weight, and work wardrobe changes, but it's still a great folder.
I love CRKT M16 and M21 knives, but I kinda not happy that I got that rescue version! I cut pocket several times with that strap cutter! :D Now I just got full collection of M21 and they are great! I think these knives are worth to spend a little more money!
I really love the SF versions with the double quillion/guard. I just wish they had a straight edge version without serrations. Does that exist yet? Anyone?
Never really gave CRKT folders a chance. I have a few of their fixed blades, but always stayed away from the folders in favor of other name brands. Went and checked out my local sporting store and out of curiosity checked out the M21-02G.....instantly sold! Was very impressed all around. Great little edc at a great price.
I've carried a M21-04G for the past two years, and carried the M16-03Z for a year or so before that. Soon I'm moving on to a Benchmade 710, if only for the steel strength, because CRKT knives have been at my side in a whole assortment of different situations. (I also tend to sharpen them while watching your videos.)
I have an old M-16 Mil 1* and I really like it. I have kind of retired it from EDC but it is still a really good knife. The blade really has held up like all get out.
Hey LBS...glad to know you are a Believer also (kinda figured you were because of your positive attitude and your clean vids )...thanks for this presentation of CRKT's great knives...they have a wide variety to fit most needs...I EDC my M16 13SFG and find it to be a very capable and useful knife...
I have a number of CRKT's including M16's they are great! I carried a M16-10zy for years and them added a M16-14zsf, then gave my M16-10zy to my daughters boyfriend. I picked up a Kershaw A/O and it has served well for about 24 months for my smaller M16-10 size knife needs. I would like to try out a M21 but that is for later .For now my M16-14zsf and Kershaw A/O will continue to serve as my EDC Knifes and will continue to ride in my suitcase on the airplane when I have to fly but no matter where I am the will be EDC while I'm on the ground.
I still have my M16-14 and M16-10F BOTH in Carbon Fiber! These were discontinued and are pretty rare. They're still razor sharp..(because they sit in my safe)...and I'm sure glad I listened to that voice in my head back in early 2000 that said.."HOLD ON TO THESE!!!" CRKT..if you're listening...you should make a limited run of these, I'll bet they disappear as soon as you release them!
The M21-14Z tanto was the first pocket knife I ever bought. I carried that for years before I started buying some other knives. It was a bit heavy, but I didn't mind, and It was nice to have the heft while using it. The lock up eventually loosened up after some really hard use, but it is still servicable. Nice comparison vid Scout.
If you want to cut through blister packaging I recommend either the Gerber Dime or Leatherman Wingman, both have a blister packaging cuter that works way better than using just a knife or scissors.
Ive got the m16 14zsf. In my opinion its the best knife ive ever used. Its been able to withstnand alot of abuse. I recommend crkt knives to anyone looking for a very versatile knife. I ordered the orange emergency knife to keep in my truck also
I have also a M16-12Z and have carried it for 15 years every day. Now the part that locks the blade is completely corroded, but it doesn't seem to hurt the knife, it's just surface corrosion.
Nice review! I bought my first CRKT knife, a Swindle, last week and really like it. Last night I ordered a CRKT M16-04S, Jettison, Fulcrum, Outrage and a Kershaw Shallot Damascus (love the Kershaw Ken Onion knives).
M16 Is a Spear Point M14 is Tanto M21 is a Spear Point with a recurve. I have four of these, 3 M14s, 2 of which are Big Dogs, and one M21. My favourite is my M14-04Z (Tanto with zytel scales, razor edge and AUS8 steel) It was my first real EDC blade and I have had it for about 10 years now. Such a great series of blades.
+Craig Wildfeuer , That's not necessarily the case. the M16-13ER is a Spear Point while the M16-14ER is Tanto. I think that the M21 is consistently a spear point with a recurve. But I'm not sure about the M14 vs the M16.
I started one-hand closing one of those blades and after I became comfortable with doing so, I got lazy and those serrations sliced deep into the inside of my index finger. The bad thing about a very sharp blade with very sharp serrations is those edges and points cut through flesh like it wasn't even there. On the other hand, a nice, clean cut heals a lot quicker than flesh that has been ripped or shredded...I only cut the inside of my finger twice (but the second time technically wasn't my fault).
I have an older CRKT Hammond Cruiser with the LAWKS system not the AutoLawks that are fitted to this series, I use it, rarely, I like the option of using it if I need to. It becomes a chore to have to have to disengage it every time I close the knife. I find myself not using it. I love the VEFF serrations though, they don't hang up like most serrations do.
ive got at least 7 knives from the m21/16 line in different variations. i want that rescue one now! i really like how they feel when they lock up. blade side to side, and front to back movement is very minimal when deployed. very solid. i recommend them to everyone. im usually a spyderco endura and delica guy and try to get them used on ebay for the price of one of these but you have to fight for them. i still need a kershaw leek to add to my collection as well. thanks for the vid! i love the big dog versions of the crkt m16/21 the most and the recurved blade m21 is the one i use the most.
They should do a better job explaining the nomenclature on their site. I took me a long time to figure it out. You can easily order a small M-16 wondering why the other larger M-16's were much more. On-line the pictures of a small knife look just like a picture of the larger one on another site. If I would have accidently ordered the small one, I would have been very angry. Do we need 100 different handle materials and colors? A different one for each profession - firefighter, solider, police, etc. ? It's almost a fashion show. Having said that, I've owned four CRKT knives and I loved them all. The M-16 is discrete, simple, cheap and opens as fast as any knife can.
Can you make a video rating the types of steel on blades from weakest to strongest to let us viewers know what to look for when looking for a strong durable blade
The AutoLAWKS system has been shown to be effective against accidental and some vibration-induced failure in RUclips testing, though the thin structure failed during heavy loading, being flattened completely. Just thought I'd mention it. Some Russian guy blew one up in testing, forget the name.
I adored my 3” M16 in 12C27. Wore it alllll the time. It’s still great but 12c27 will rust in a sweaty waistband whereas 8cr will not (the cheaper version) So, just wanted to point that out. It didn’t rust bad but I know one little fleck ruins it for some folks. KPL or Tuf Glide solves it though.
Those serations are weak point of that M21 blade, have M16-14 DFSG and same problem when i use knife on harder materials (wood, thicker plastic...). Now i ordered M16-04 KS, tanto blade without serrations, frame lock and 12C27 steel, now i can say that is GOOD knife, which i recomend to all.
Got an M21-02G on the way, pretty excited. These Kit Carson designs are pretty nostalgic for me as I used to have an M16 about 7-8 years ago that I lost. Glad they started using 8Cr steels instead of AUS4, that steel was total garbage.
Great video. I just got the m16 14d. I hear all the g10 are made in China with the 8cr14 steel the aluminum and zytel are aus8 and made in Taiwan, supposed to be better quality. I know I want the m21 or with no aberrations.
That's what I got. My brother found it n gave it to me a while ago and I never used it much, but I started carryin it lately. I like it. I like how thin it is and light too. And I've been able to keep a good edge on it.
Check the liners. They are different, 21 has liner on both side & 16 only on one side. I read that the M21 was "a total redesign of the M16" this video shows that...well... not so much They should offer a better steel than AUS 8 in the Titanium models.
That stainless steel emergency knife you got don't hold an edge that long. Their high carbon steel holds an awesome Edge. But the downside is it rust a little bit that's okay keep some oil on it every now and then
+The Late Boy Scout do you know if they make a large m16 that's close or identical to the M16-10KS, but obviously larger scale? That's a tanto blade, black coated, partly serrated, and stainless steel scales.
.......That was the literal difference between the M-16 and the M-21. The M16 was still being used for Military use in which the Military patented the tanto blade, So CRKT created the 21 the Deep Belly blade till the patent expired. At which point they made both.
I found the m-16 at lowes hardware it's frame lock knife. Not my top favorite! No fast deployment. Was 19.98 21.74 after tax. I'm pretty sure crkt has cooler knives out there!
"K" is always Black... Remember CMYK? it is refer to Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (Black)... thats why K is always Black, in fact K = Black is more universal compared to B for Black...
Been watching your channel for a couple months now and when i came across this vid i like you even more. It's awesome to find out that someone is a Christian. It's non of my business but im just interested: What denomination are you? Baptist, Catholic, Reformed, Armenian and etc.
not a fan of that line of knives, but the smaller m16s really do look nice- also the thumb studs are neat, haven't taken a closer look at those. (twice you showed blades and named them wrong lol)
Answer to K as black: I believe I can shed some light on the K, or why it makes sense to me. In the world of printing you have CMYK. You can see it on printer cartridges occasionally. It means Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (Key). This is because RGB -already stood for Red Green BLUE. Incidentally when CMY are combined they produce black (K). I knew that knowledge would come in handy one day! Lol.
good video but it comes down to personal preference....I like the byrd cara cara 2 better as I hate the auto LAWKS on those knifes and the holes in the handles seems to attract more debris than other knives.
"No other color ends in K" pinK. I want a pink coated M16 (for my girlfriend). Also those Veff serrations work really well. My first CRKT and it does not disappoint. Thanks for steering me toward these two. Another thought, how well does that rescue knife go into your pocket? It looks like one slip-up and you've got a pair of split-side pants.
Honestly I would trust it with my life
because no other colour ends in "K". dammit, i have been spelling pink wrong all these years. must be pinc... lol just kiddin, nice review
Haha, I was thinking in my head for most of the video for colours ending in K, glad you put my mind at rest!
The SFG's are cool. 4 way position clips. Dual Studs. Guards/handstops that can be used as flipper/wave as well as a striking point. Makes a great kubaton too. Probably my gate way drug to bigger knives. I've never looked back since...:)
Thanks so much for taking the time to compare all these awesome models..can't wait to get a few!

I have used my M16s for everything from cutting paracord to packaging, a screw driver, drybar, and it's my EDC. I like these knives

Oh I forgot! Great review! Thank you for sharing!
First day I got my m16-01s I fell in love with it, it's now my main edc and luckily I got it on sale for 20 bucks
Kenatsu Kenthegamingghoul does it accidentally open inside your pocket?
BatmanVsSombies I have the black M16-01ks from Walmart for 18.88 and nope
I've had an aluminum handle CRKT M16-14 Tanto for almost 10 years now. It's great!
I really love the SF versions with the double quillion/guard. I just wish they had a straight edge version without serrations. Does that exist yet? Anyone?
Best all round lock-blade knives I have ever owned and excellent engineering, materials and value, should be made in USA though.

I just found a crkt M16- 01KS for under $10. I couldn’t pass it up. It’s the first crkt I’ve ever owned. I love it

I've got the M16-10KSF actually, I just realized. pretty good knife, not a huge fan of the chisel grind, but it's every bit as good as my others.
The blade on my M16 started randomly rusting 4 days after I got it. It hadn't been exposed to water, and I cleaned and oiled it, but it continued.
I have also a M16-12Z and have carried it for 15 years every day. Now the part that locks the blade is completely corroded, but it doesn't seem to hurt the knife, it's just surface corrosion.

so far I have to CRKT knives
a M16-14ZSF and a M16-10Z.
awesome knives
FYI The M16-01S ONLY ONE WITHOUT AUTO-LAWKS & all the bigger model 16’s have dual tabs and 21’s have single tab
My first CRKT was a M16-12ZLEK and it is a tanto
Dave Wicklund chisel grind?
I ordered the M-21 14SFG after trying it out in a store, can’t wait til it comes

Have CRKT Hissatsu
M-16 01kz desert tan M-1601ks
Had the OD green with tanto serrated blade
SF with Aluminum anodized.

For some reason I'm just a super fan of the dual hilt Kit Carson knives
i bougth a m16 01kz to day even iin 2021 its a nice little knife to carry. i like the spear form on this one
I kinda like the rescue version. I drive for a living, so it might be good to have something like it at work.
@ Zachary Miller: The kind that brings me closer to Jesus Christ.
Stay true buddy
These are great knives..Very cool and well made.
Great video. I just got the m16 14d. I hear all the g10 are made in China with the 8cr14 steel the aluminum and zytel are aus8 and made in Taiwan, supposed to be better quality. I know I want the m21 or with no aberrations.
I just bought an M21-02G, and hate the Lawks thing. It was in a clamshell package, so I guess I'm stuck. I might try to remove the lock....
my first knife was a m16-10kz and it has a tanto style blade with seration
That's what I got. My brother found it n gave it to me a while ago and I never used it much, but I started carryin it lately. I like it. I like how thin it is and light too. And I've been able to keep a good edge on it.
+Jake Breeze exactly why i love it. Mine was a birthday present and its the most memorable birthday present ever
+Adrian Esquivel would you happen to know if they make the larger m16 in the style of the 10KS (I have the KS, stainless steel scales, not the KZ)
i think they do but im not 1000% sure
Great video! Planning on buying the 14ZSF. Keep it up!
Key is another word for Black, thats probably what they meant
I have the m21-14sfg love it solo much use it almost every day because I have multiple knives that I like to switch off
You have the most wisdom when it comes to EDC uses, keep up the good work, you have convinced me to buy one of these knives for field purpose:)
the kz also has the auto-locks system, it is my edc kniife rn, looks like my next edc will be an m16 aswell
Check the liners. They are different, 21 has liner on both side & 16 only on one side. I read that the M21 was "a total redesign of the M16" this video shows that...well... not so much They should offer a better steel than AUS 8 in the Titanium models.
I have a crkt m16-14sfg just got it and there are steel liners under the g10 on both sides
That stainless steel emergency knife you got don't hold an edge that long. Their high carbon steel holds an awesome Edge. But the downside is it rust a little bit that's okay keep some oil on it every now and then
Kit Carson might have been CRKT's greatest designer ever
This CRKT line frustrates me...I can't keep up with all the varieties and numbering of the different models.
I have both! my reviews coming soon!
M16 spearpoint, I've lost two over the years, an I fully intend to get another, which is the longest spearpoint blade available ?
None of the m16 models have the veff serrations. Another difference I noticed. Good review. Thanks foe the vids.
Good point. Thanks.
i just got a crkt m16-14sfg and it has veff serrations - cheers from canada
+The Late Boy Scout do you know if they make a large m16 that's close or identical to the M16-10KS, but obviously larger scale? That's a tanto blade, black coated, partly serrated, and stainless steel scales.

It would be cool if they just made the rescue version in different colors.

Sad that you did not cover the M16-13SF.
not a fan of that line of knives, but the smaller m16s really do look nice-
also the thumb studs are neat, haven't taken a closer look at those.
(twice you showed blades and named them wrong lol)
Double flippers on the M21
Answer to K as black:
I believe I can shed some light on the K, or why it makes sense to me.
Lol.
K👊 I'll take the yellow one😉
I own three of the blades on the table and love them. Great review!
These are great edc knives i have the m16-03z spear point
I generally dont like serrated knives but those serrations look bad ass
This is a great video and very informative, however it needs updated being nearly a decade old. This did settle some thoughts I was having.
I was about to say Crkt came out with a new kinfe
I got a few kershaws and crkts, I want some bokers and benchmade and such but am short on change rn
good video but it comes down to personal preference....I like the byrd cara cara 2 better as I hate the auto LAWKS on those knifes and the holes in the handles seems to attract more debris than other knives.
The knives are cool, but I think you are right: those are otherwise known as lint holes!
You do have a lot of knives. I really like those CRKT M21's. The Kershaw is really nice too.
Aside from the two that I showed at the beginning, which I own, those were all on loan from my friends at Blade HQ.
What one is the bigest,I'm all about large.
Its a decent steel yes but the heat treatment is not good
M21 looks a lot like the ignitor t. am I wrong? I do love my ignitor t.
"No other color ends in K"
pinK.
That m16 is the nicest knife I've ever seen
You know the m16 might be like 16mm from edge to spine and the m21 would be 21mm...thats just a guess tho
hm... my M16-01S doesn't have the Carson design logo on it...
Which m16 has the best action without the assist? Thinking about the 04SS
love CRKT! lots of bang for the buck and u can use em and abuse em for the price
Is there an m16 version with zytel handle and without the autoLawks system ? I guess like the m16-01s but with plastic handles
Haha, have fun sharpening that serrated blade partition, that's a pain in the ass! xD
I took out my auto lawks on the m16-01KZ it make it quieter
Crkt ,yes super knives!My favorite M 16 14 Z!
Where did u get the orange variant with the non coated blade
I like the M16-01s. Great review as always.
