    Hague at his best. A brilliant Parliamentarian who could grasp any political issue and deliver his judgment with almost cruel accuracy and humour. He's on a par with Dickens and Hardy with his ability to get a message across and for it to be noted. We miss him.

      Great speaker but a terrible judge. Not much he ever said turned out to be right. Not exactly a statesman either after his "cheese eating surrender monkey" comment he made about the French shortly before becoming foreign secretary

      Hague didn't believe in leaving the EU and this "speech" was just partisan pandering to the biggest retards in his party. His irresponsible politics is part of why Brexit was allowed to fester and grow.
      It isn't even a well written or convincing speech, it's a fearmongering story about Blair becoming world leader via the EU. Absolutely stupid.

    This speech captures everything you need to know about how we were hoodwinked out a referendum that should of occurred before we entered into that infamous treaty. And how insightful the words from William Haig who warned us all those years ago what we now know to be a reality.

      No one was hoodwinked. We have a representative democratic system, don't like the politicians that support then vote for a different politician, simple. More to the point, he clearly didn't agree as he voted to remain in the EU lol.

    "There is a simple rule here, a rule of legislation, a rule of business, a rule of life: beyond a certain point complexity is fraud." P. J. O'Rourke
    Here Hague demonstrates how the EU used impenetrable legalistic language, and the public's own stupidity, complacency and unwillingness to scrutinise intentionally very boring text to introduce paternalistic autocracy by stealth.

    Even though this is 11 years old it highlights why we are where we are now. If we were given a referendum on this treaty by the then Labour Government, it would have been rejected and we would not be where we are now. But this just highlights that now NO DEAL is better than NO BREXIT we have to escape the clutches of the EU dictatorship.

    how different is the feeling and manners at parliament then to now all carping and jeering which we can attribute to the vile Bercow who fostered such backbiting and made parliament unwatchable or indeed showed how little it adhered to the norms of dignity and mutual respect shown above..sadly continuing today ,and yet this from Hague was truly excellent to watch, he is truly witty.. :)

    Would this be the same William Hague who was only this week lamenting how the UK's international influence and reputation will be irreparable damaged by its leaving the EU? His wit has never been doubted, but this speech is just one of the many elements that led to the country's catastrophic decision last June.

    • @stupot420032002
      @stupot420032002 6 лет назад +11

      Just because he called for a Referendum on something, When all parties had in fact promised a Referendum, does not mean he actually supported leaving it, We did promise a Referendum in 2015, It was held June 2016, Both sides made their case, and the people chose to Leave. You call it "Catastrophic" I call it "Opportunistic"

    • @darrengates9729
      @darrengates9729 6 лет назад +7

      No. The reason why we are where we are now is because we were not given the chance to vote on the treaty, which would have been rejected and therefore would have curtailed expansion of EU powers. The EU is a dictatorship and it will fail, just like the Soviet Union did. We need to be out now before we are caught up in that mess. NO DEAL better than NO BREXIT

      This is about the Lisbon Treaty. It's so funny your whole lives you thought parliament was arguing against the EU WHEN THEY WERE ARGUING AGAINST TWO OR THREE BILLS OUT OF THOUSANDS! Thatcher, Hague, all of them think the idea of giving up your influence inside to the influence of the globalist elite by leaving the whole thing to be balls to the wall FUCKING RETARDED. It's like being upset about Iraq and demanding the complete dismantling of purely the uks military. How daft a self-own!
