I remember seeing this add on TV. It was so awesome haha. Though, makes me sad when the video ends, because I know that this commercial will be history once Holden stops producing vehicles in 2017.
The clever thing in this ad is that the tornado can signify the early 80's, when the ute was dropped and Holden was in a bit of financial trouble with commodore and camira. When the ute was reintroduced, it was happy days again
When this ad was aired i went crazy 4 the cars and the ad,ive always been a HOLDEN Fan and always will.Im still as tertimend as i was 2 get that car when the ad was released.Go HOLDEN Go Better
This & the thunderstruck ad for the vz storm ute will always be the best morden Holden ads of my time cuz sadly I wasn't around when we lived football meat pies ect... & dam that hq suits the 70s
@speeddemon100 LHD conversion could be done with all parts needed from a G8. As for the front end, you need only change the front bumper, the grille (Although there's a Chevy grille if you want it) and the hood. However, to get the Pontiac hood to match the Holden grille will only require some minor sheetmetal work.
my first new vehicle i bought was a holden crewman (storm) ute in june 2005. i have to sell it now to buy a family car. i dont think the pain will go away...... til im allowed to buy another ute :-)
@79shvlhd1 They did that about 7 years ago, remember? The VU version of the ute turned into a Sandman, later a factory optioned SS ute that could be ordered with a panelvan body
@jd5503 More than likely, the last year of production of the HQ was 1974; the year Cyclone Tracy ripped Darwin to shreds. The Tiger orange VU was the first ute to use the VT-based body
@HHRDUDE09 I don't know that for sure, but wouldn't be surprised if it did happen. For all LHD parts, source them from the Pontiac G8. The conversion shouldn't be too hard, as the VE was designed for ease of tooling between left and right hand drive
@TBustah At present, there are only two places I know of that Ford Australia exports to; South Africa and New Zealand. One of the reasons is simply because they're both RHD countries, but beyond that, it would be small export numbers. If you look closely at the Au, BA, BF and FG Falcons (enter it into anybody's search engine, it will be the same) Ford Australia "cut and shut" the F-150 tray to fit them. It's the tail lights that are the biggest clue of all.
Jet, what a perfect use of music for a memorable ad I grew up watching. Makes me cry from nostalgia, and the loss of the identity that made me proud to be Australian. We aint had football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars like we used to, and we won't again with the way this country is "progressing" into depravity.
@jd5503 im pretty sure the tornado follows on from the VU ss ute ads they used to have, the ute would make a storm. However your comment shows another look into it
Ohhh mann. I want a Holden Ute in the States now! If not by Pontiac then Chevy. YOU HEARING THIS GM NORTH AMERICA? Bring the Maloo R8 while you're at it too.
Why won't GM bring this thing stateside? They don't need to sell the SS model (nobody would have bought the G8ST, it was too expensive), just the basic one. I'd say there's enough of a demand from the El Camino fans alone.
@TBustah You should look up "VE Maloo" to see what the pinnacle of the Holden ute looks like. I know the sedan already wears Chevy badges in the Middle East (Lumina) but unsure as to whether the ute goes there as well
@Mechknight73 Yeah, it does, at least in South Africa (where it's sold as Chevrolet Lumina), I dunno about the Middle East, though. I agree with you on the VE, it's easily Holden's best looking ute yet. The regular, non-ute, version had just been released when I visited Australia four years ago, and I fell in love with it. I just wish Ford and GM would get the crap out of their ears and bring these great cars stateside. The regular Commodore is coming. but only for police departments.
@Mechknight73 You never know, Ford might just take the tooling elsewhere to build LHD Falcons They're trying to standardize their lineup worldwide, and part of that new policy includes introducing models only sold in some markets worldwide, like Fiesta and the new Focus (which will be the same as the Euro version) in NA. They're also being built in new factories, closer to these new markets. A LHD Falcon ute (which I imagine would be sold as El Rancho) could be in the works, though I doubt it.
BRING THIS VEHICLE TO THE U.S.!!! PLEASE!!!! my boss one time said "american cars are generic looking" I said "you're fucking crazy" but I'll be damned! the SOB is right!
@HHRDUDE09 In the last few years, all of their rear drivers were rebadged Holdens. The next "Badge Assualt" Holden will be doing in America is with Chevrolet. The Holden Caprice will, like its Middle Eastern version be wearing Chevy badges, and be GM USA's newest police cruiser. Don't be surprised if you see the VE Commodore and ute's successor coming to America with Lumina and El Camino badges respectively.
@wreckage06 i dunno the vu is my favourite, i just love the look of it. especially when its been lowered onto the ground and had 20's put on it haha, in my opinion you cant beat that
@KoushiroIzumi85 When I typed "ARE YOU HEARING THIS GM NORTH AMERICA?" I actually meant "ARE YOU READING THIS" in case their PR people are scanning the internet. My bad.
@wreckage06 they only showed the major changes of the utes, the yu ute and the yz are pretty much exactly the same car just different interiors and bodys on them
@Mechknight73 So the Ute will come to America as the new El Camino? I think it was supposed to come out this year as Pontiac but GM dropped the company... Oh well... If its not out by the time I need a new car I'll just have to fly to Australia and ship it back! LOL
@wreckage06 haha, yeah it is apart of the vx models, they must ahve just decided to use vu instead for the utes (im guessing the u is for ute?) yeah they are, and im working my arse off at the moment so i can ahve enoguh money in a years time to get a good commodore of some sort haha, hopefully a vu
@wreckage06 yeah the extra power would be awesome but im more concerned about looks over speed haha. but my mum has a vz executive that she said they'd sell to me so that would be baddass
@TBustah Ford Australia are too lazy to make LHD Falcons; their alleged "excuse" would be that it's too expensive. Allegedly they were given the same task Holden was in the Ford empire; design the world rear drive platform for Ford. I had the good fortune to drive a WM Statesman (LWB luxury Commodore) some 2000 miles across Australia. It was quick, comfortable, precise and predictable. And this was only the V6 model! This same car is the police Caprice 2011, albeit with a V8
'Evolution ends here'... How true a description of what would be the last Aussie V8 Ute ever. Sad.
My point is manufacturing will end, hence evolution of the ute ending.
fuuuuck ;_;
I remember seeing this add on TV. It was so awesome haha. Though, makes me sad when the video ends, because I know that this commercial will be history once Holden stops producing vehicles in 2017.
Vexon Yep, sadly they stopped today.
Yes, very very sad to hear that Holden was retired :''(
The clever thing in this ad is that the tornado can signify the early 80's, when the ute was dropped and Holden was in a bit of financial trouble with commodore and camira. When the ute was reintroduced, it was happy days again
Three years on and the VE still looks hot as, sweet! Once a Holden man, always a Holden man! Love this ad!
When this ad was aired i went crazy 4 the cars and the ad,ive always been a HOLDEN Fan and always will.Im still as tertimend as i was 2 get that car when the ad was released.Go HOLDEN Go Better
“Evolution ends here” was not a slogan that aged well.
This & the thunderstruck ad for the vz storm ute will always be the best morden Holden ads of my time cuz sadly I wasn't around when we lived football meat pies ect...
& dam that hq suits the 70s
Best ad ever. How the hell did I miss this one. I have 5 Holden's from my LX Torana to my VE Ute and love them all.
What about the two Thunderstruck Ute ads from the early 2000’s. Also you need to check out the first commodore Ute ad from I think 1990.
Love the transition between the different models. Thanks for the upload.
Still driving my 208 VE Omega Dual Fuel, (LPG and Petrol) sedan in 2024.
I want the pontiac VE version to convert back to a ute....just beautiful
@speeddemon100 LHD conversion could be done with all parts needed from a G8. Great ad! Reminds me of the US Silverado "evolution" ad, but still great. I hope GM finds a way to bring the Ute to the US as a GMC.
i love this ad how it goes thunght the ages of ute's from then to now
There should be a "love" button! this is a great ad
If only we could get these in Europe... Shit, this will be my car!
I love this ad! And I'm a Ford guy
Holden make the best commercials, and cars. evolution ends here!
If it wasn't for the JETS song [ NICE CAR ] i wonder what other song they would of used .
@HHRDUDE09 I don't know that for sure, but wouldn't be surprised if it did happen. For all LHD parts, source them from the Pontiac G8. The conversion shouldn't be too hard, as the VE was designed for ease of tooling between left and right hand drive

Good comment and profile picture
@jd5503 im pretty sure the tornado follows on from the VU ss ute ads they used to have, the ute would make a storm. However your comment shows another look into it
love this add, love this car. I WANT ONE!!!!!
love you Jet
They needed to put a VG, VR or VS ute in the ad to show the evolution!
"This is a better res version of the new Holden Ute ad" - 240p = better res than what? My old Nokia 3210, maybe.
The scenery where the orange VS is dropped in the street by the tornado is in Adelaide.
Ohhh mann. I want a Holden Ute in the States now! If not by Pontiac then Chevy. YOU HEARING THIS GM NORTH AMERICA?
Bring the Maloo R8 while you're at it too.
This is a great ad if you look at most American car ads theres pretty much all ways a voice over through the whole thing which wrecks it pretty much.
Why won't GM bring this thing stateside?
They don't need to sell the SS model (nobody would have bought the G8ST, it was too expensive), just the basic one. I'd say there's enough of a demand from the El Camino fans alone.
They forgot the VR and VS ute
Great ad just missed out on a few models the VG and VS pitty really liked the look of them but love the green on the VE
lets hope we get this
One thing I have realized is that most of the Pontiac cars were from the platforms of a Holden.
@TBustah You should look up "VE Maloo" to see what the pinnacle of the Holden ute looks like. I know the sedan already wears Chevy badges in the Middle East (Lumina) but unsure as to whether the ute goes there as well

I absolutely luuuuuuuuv this ad! =)) This' gonna be my bloody car *haha*

love this ad
VES RULE!!
it's Rip it up by Jet
@wreckage06 i dunno the vu is my favourite, i just love the look of it. especially when its been lowered onto the ground and had 20's put on it haha, in my opinion you cant beat that
Love this ad!!!
best ad ever from Holden!
@KoushiroIzumi85 When I typed "ARE YOU HEARING THIS GM NORTH AMERICA?" I actually meant "ARE YOU READING THIS" in case their PR people are scanning the internet.
My bad.
0:39 - lol, the VE wheel design is almost exactly the same as the previous VZ model. Hardly 'evolution'.
The real estate place where the old people are sitting is the antique shop in Marburg QLD
i live in marburg so don't say i don't know
@wreckage06 they only showed the major changes of the utes, the yu ute and the yz are pretty much exactly the same car just different interiors and bodys on them
Interesting concept.
a sports car you can put some tools in , love it
@Mechknight73 So the Ute will come to America as the new El Camino? I think it was supposed to come out this year as Pontiac but GM dropped the company... Oh well... If its not out by the time I need a new car I'll just have to fly to Australia and ship it back! LOL
Love this ad.
thats my name... cool
@wreckage06 haha, yeah it is apart of the vx models, they must ahve just decided to use vu instead for the utes (im guessing the u is for ute?)

im not a fan of holdens but that ad was great
Where was the VN/VG ute?? Good ad though.
Transformers, lol. funny there's no tornadoes in Australia..
@wreckage06 the ute from 2001-2003 is called vu.... i would get that but im not rich enough for that haha
Fuck yeah
@hiace24
also known as hurricanes....... not quite the same!
iT is in Brisbane. I know the servo dude in the yellow t
What about the VS ute??
2021
My Car!!!

True blue mate
ummm VG-VS utes???
in brisbane
Anyone know the name of the song?
'Rip It Up' by Jet
Yes, they aren't the prettiest but they still count. Its like leaving your cousin out of the family tree because he has bucked teeth
Transformers, lol.
They look ok but it's a dam shame it cost a billion dollars to design something that was so poorly put together
'Evolution ends here'... How true a description of what would be the last Aussie V8 Ute ever. Sad.
