I would really like to see you do the Wahl-O-Mat in September when it comes out. It's the "Officially approved" party Quiz and it always releases shortly before a major election.

The term "liberal" in English means very different things depending on which side of the Atlantic you come from, just consider what the term means in UK politics, for example. From today's US perspective, nearly all German political parties have left-wing views eg on healthcare and tuition fees. Or take the fact that pregnant women cannot legally be fired in Germany, another concept that is not politically controversial at all.
In my experience, these enormous differences make it most difficult to explain to Americans how German politics work; discussions usually go nowhere hence I tend to avoid the topic. One example: When I explain the fact that under German law, large public companies are legally mandated to have nearly 50 % of the seats on the "Aufsichtsrat" (more or less the equivalent of the board of directors in the US) elected by the employees (so they are usually union representatives) Americans either do not believe me or, if they believe me, do not believe this could ever work. And this is a concept which is not challenged by any political party here !

Interesting video. A video about the differences of political election and campaigning between USA and Germany would be great.

About EU: The most important thing about the EU is imo that it helps to avoid wars between the members. Everything else pales behind that. But if every member can decide in every case if they follow the rules they guaranteed to follow a union is completely senseless. So I disagree on your opinion about this topic. And watching the desaster Brexit is for the UK there is no alternative to the EU at the moment even if it means that single members could have a short advantage by going a way of their own.

Good points. There are definitely more pros than cons to the EU

Kendra, I wrote e-mails to all the major political parties in Germany, asking them to send me their printed election program. So far, only two have replied, and they're both on the right side of the political spectrum, one is black and the other one's blue. Well, it's not uncommon for the left wing to be debating until shortly before election Sunday, but that exactly the most conservative ones were the fastest to respond, that came as a surprise.
edit: I like the way you said, "AfD is not for me". Sadly, that doesn't rhyme in German.

Do you think it's because the right-wing parties are more likely to gain support from people on the extreme left (like how people from the Linke join AfD)? I'm thinking they may be more eager to get their agendas out and convert voters.
I would've been so satisfied if it rhymed in German haha

The CDU is in 15 federal states, the CSU only in Bavaria.
All other parties exist in all 16 federal states.
"Die Linke" and "AFD" are stronger in the east. CDU and SPD more in the west.
Membership in the EU was the price Germany paid to be recognized again after the war.
Germany is relinquishing responsibilities, but has a strong voice in the EU.
That was reinforced when the socialist DDR joined capitalist West Germany.
Together with France, Germany supports the EU and poorer countries in Europa.
This should strengthen the political balance in Europe and prevent war.
Before the EU existed, tensions between the countries were decided by war, today the revival is limited to soccer.
