    It’s amazing how diverse Georgia soil is . I don’t think we are that far away from y’all but we have very compacted clay alkaline soil that I have to amend consistently 💀😅 I. Guess that must be the sweet spot down there between Georgia and Florida to have the loam .
    No tassels on my corn yet still looks like it has a way to go but this video helps me because I think I will start another round of squash and cucumbers . They are just putting on flowers but I have spotted some white spots on them and some of my tomatoes after that last cold dip

      There are some clay spots around here, but they're pretty sparse. If you travel an hour or so west, you'll lot of huge clay farm fields. We're close enough to the gulf coast that we have the sandy loam down here.

    My only advice on peanuts is keep the weeds down. If you haven't looked at how a peanut grows...the flower puts out a shoot and grows down to the ground, and then underground, and that's where the peanuts form... so you don't want any weeds in the way. You want the shoot to have an easy path to the soil. Will be interesting how your germination goes. I planted 4 rows and didn't have good success. I transplanted all the ones that did finally come up, into one row... have about 1/2 a row at this point.

The rest I will grow in 17 gallon buckets. Once the popcorn gets 6 to 8 inches tall, I will plant pinto beans on each side of them to use as a trellis.

    Succession planting....I wanted to do that with green bean this year, but got a late start with all the cold temperatures. Now it's fixin' to strike off hot here - High 90's next week, and I'm really hesitant to plant more. I think I'll wait for early Fall and see what I can do. One thing for sure - I'll be harvesting lettuce next week. I don't think it's going last after a full week of hot temps. Anyway, I planted a 30' row of pickling cucumber and a s**t ton of summer squash that are starting to make right now. I've got a feeling I'm going to be dealing with a lot more than I bargained for! I do still occasionally inject 20-20-20 through the injector when plants need a quick jolt. Trying to get away from relying on it as much, but it's tough because it does work very well. Thanks for the videos. I’m in south Texas close to the coast and we have had 20 inches of rain in May. I’m growing jambalaya okra for the first time. It has germinated but worried the rain is not good. I’m also growing it in a raised bed. Any suggestions to help out my okra during this crazy rain.

      Just scratch the soil with a hoe when you can to help it dry. That's about all you can do.

    Out of curiosity, will planting squash later in the spring like this help you avoid the vine borers? I wasn’t sure about when they stop laying eggs. I caught one laying eggs on my plants the other day and I’m waiting for all hell to break loose. Would like to get more started for when that happens but don’t want to waste my time if they’re still circulating. Thanks!

      It can help if you miss the egg laying window -- whenever that happens for your area. We don't have a big issue with vine borers, but we get some really intense squash bug pressure as temps warm.

      Never know until you try. Go for a super disease-resistant variety and see what happens.

    Roughly how many peanuts can you expect from one plant? Is it about like a potato production wise or heavier yielding?

    • @LazyDogFarm
      @LazyDogFarm  3 года назад

      I have no idea. I have seen the plants after the commercial guys dig their peanuts, and it looks like they get at least two big handfuls per plant.

    • @SaltydogNC
      @SaltydogNC 3 года назад +1

      It's more than potatoes. They usually have more than 20 peanuts and if conditions are right a lot more than that. That was growing them in NC red clay. In more sandy soil, it is likely even more.

    Tried tilling today and carb is plugged with something. Can't rebuild or break open - had to order another for $20 and it will take a good week or two to get here. Just puts me behind even more.

    Biggest issue I know with regard to growing peanuts is that you can never overestimate the importance of calcium

      We are just the opposite. No rain in the forecast for the next ten days and weather in the 90’s. Crazy weather! We didn’t think it would ever get warm enough to plant, then as soon as the seeds start coming up, we get this. Hope y’all get some dry weather and warm temps soon.

      @Beth Mitchell We've been having some cool nights but we're supposed to get into the high 90s next week. It's dry here. Haven't had any rain in a week or so and none expected next week.

    Must have been a big falling out, not advertising Hoss or using their products but showing Johnny seed and using their products. No Hoss whatsoever?

      I don't think it was a failing out so much as Travis started his own digital marketing business. Now that he is independent, he can use whatever seeds he wants. I'm sure he still has Hoss seeds in his supply.

    • @LazyDogFarm
      @LazyDogFarm  3 года назад +1

      @D V We don't have an allegiance to any particular seed company at this point. We've just been purchasing from wherever we can find the varieties we want to plant or the varieties our subscribers have suggested that we plant.
