  • In this video I go over what I learned from using the Rollei 35, a 35mm film camera. I talk about my journey into analog photography, talk about some of the quirks about this odd little compact camera, and also look at some photos shot on different film stocks.
And as a bonus I'll show you how to load a roll of film into this camera. Oh and we'll definitely talk about the light meter struggles, challenges of range focus and some tips and tricks for using the camera.

..almost too good to be true. Even thrift stores check eBay these days. Content creators love to say they bought their Hasselblad for $5 in a throw-away bin. That’s an exaggeration of course but I think everyone knows what I’m talking about if you’ve watched any amount of film photog channels.

Nice video, but i have to say you're wasting so much film in the beginning - it's just enough to place it there and wind it once, then close it and shoot - trust me, im able to shoot up to 41 photos instead of 36 like that :D

The hot shoe is on the bottom because that was where the space to locate it was. Flash pictures taken with the flash on the bottom look odd because the flash shadows were up rather than down as anticipated. It made for particularly ugly portraits, this isn't a camera normally used for portraits. Rollei sold a little accessory kit with a bracket to mount a flash on the camera side and a PC adapter for the hot shoe. This kit cost about $7 new. The bracket is often available for less than $10 today, but the PC/hot show adapter required to use it is practically never found, and if found, can run $50-100. I looked for this accessory for a decade with no luck. I finally got the kit when packaged with a 35S on eBay. I had to buy another 35S to get that adapter, and I had to put $100 into camera repairs, but in the end, I got it almost for free.

When I shoot with flash I have a tiny transformer on the camera and hold the flash out off camera, flash q20 make them, (worlds smallest flash trigger)
