The insurance companies are indeed being a-holes. Many Hurricane Harvey victims are still fighting insurance companies while trying to fix their homes. It's now been almost 1 year, 2 months since Harvey.

Toussaint Chivars Yep! You're exactly right! I live here and stayed and rode the storm out. I have some videos on my channel of me driving around after the storm. But I have to say that Geico was amazing. We had Geico insurance on our vehicles that were both totalled from the storm surge(we live really close to the beach in Mexico Beach) and as soon as the road was clear(a day or 2), we had a "catastrophe agent" at our house to inspect our vehicles. We had rental vehicles within a week, which was unheard of at the time bc almost EVERYONE needed a rental car here. But I must mention who has been the least helpful for victims of the storm has been FEMA. They haven't really done much. We had an inspector from FEMA come to inspect our home a few weeks after the storm due to our first floor flooding from the storm surge. We had multiple areas where black mold was growing (even though we removed ALL of the water the night of the storm) and he told me right to my face that "black mold doesn't exist and I have absolutely nothing to be concerned about" and we were denied by FEMA for any kind of assistance, even though there's clearly mold growing inside our house and we have 2 young children who live here as well. We'll manage though bc my husband makes good money but other people aren't so lucky and they were also denied. But the worst part is the fact that there are many hurricane victims still living in tents to this day! 200 days after the storm! And these aren't people looking for work or people who came after the fact, these are families who lost everything. There are so many people, the place they are staying has been dubbed "Tent City". Where are all the FEMA trailers they gave to the victims of Hurricane Katrina who were still living in them 3 years later?!?! It's really frustrating. I donate as much as I can and I know other people who do as well but it's not enough. It's just really sad.

I live here in Mexico Beach. I live on Ocean Plantation Circle. They've been pulling bodies out of the rubble, ppl left their animals to die in their homes....we have no electricity, water, sewer. It's terrible. Been shittin in a 5 gallon bucket....whatever, ain't no shame in my game! Lol! We were recently able to get a solar camping shower and I'm SO thankful for that thing! It's been a lifesaver. My family and i(I have 2 kids) are doing better than alot of ppl and I'm VERY thankful for that also. This storm has actually restored my faith in humanity a little. I don't know what we would do without the kindness of strangers, the salvation army, and our soldiers. They have been our angels. I can't even put into words how appreciative I am for EVERYONE who has helped us and our community.

One of their own NWO commandments is population control scribed right on the Georgia Guidestones. Satan is the God of this world, he roams like a lion looking to devour. He's not in hell yet because he hasn't faced judgement. He won't until jesus returns. He is roaming free so we need the full armour of God. God will intervene but satan rules over this planet for now. Don't forget. We are in spiritual warfare. God did promise survival till the end so we dont need to buy into global warming ending life as we know it like they want us to believe. We will be takin care of till the end. But it's Satan who is the God of this world and God intervene's and will take care of his faithful followers because Satan has no authority over us. This is our time to repent and get saved. You are blind to the lies of Satan and you believe you are alive and free but you are a slave to sin and the walking dead. You need forgiveness, we all do and Jesus is here now to offer that to you if you believe in the name of Christ, you will be saved. I pray for you, that God might save you for his glory and be merciful to you in revealing to you His great love, grace and beauty. I have seen, in the 35 years I've lived here in Florida, going from a normal of maybe 1 or 2 hurricanes per decades, some of which were not so bad, to up to 4 in one year. And at least two of those strong and devastating. In 04 we had 4 hurricanes. Three of which affected our area. And the last three years it's been Mathew, Irma, Florence and now Michael, which was as bad as the legendary Camille. And as things warm up it will get worse. It's like putting a planet on to boil. We will have worse tornadoes, hurricanes, sand storms, and snow storms in the future. And our government's lack of understanding of this, and lack of reaction to this, will make our children have to live in a world that may be so dangerous they will curse our names. And all for the lack of our getting out there, telling the oil industry, and the automotive industry, to get their thumbs out of their butts, and to get to work and help us figure out a way around this. Cause the truth is that the future is not ours....not their's...it's our kids, and their kids, who will pay if they don't. By they way...this looks like a hit from a EF-5 tornado hit. Go look at a few pictures of the last big one that hit Oklahoma city. This was a EF-5.....hurricane style. Some of the shots here prove to me that these communities got hit probably by tornadic activity, down drafts, or vortices. That, coupled with the storm surge which was just as powerful as the tsunami that took out Japan years back, is what destroyed Mexico Beach and surrounding area. We have to do something about this.

Praying for God to restore Mexico Beach and Panama City Florida from Hurricane Michael that destroyed the most beautiful place I ever seen. I am from Duplin County and Hurricane Florence last month got 6 inches of flood river water on the first floor man , 2018 hurricane season has been the most heartbreaking devastating hurricane season I have gone through in my life since hurricane Floyd in September 1999 when my brick house across Highway 41 from my 2 story house got to my windows and washed away when I was 1 year old. 😟😟😟😟I am 20 years old today.

Everything within 5 miles of the coast should be made with concrete or cinder block filled with concrete.
Wood frame will work also, but needs many more tie downs and let in bracing and also earthquake bracing like is used in California but takes good carpenters to do it right.
There needs to be a coastal building code written and enforced that every structure can withstand 160mph winds. All sheathing should be applied with wafer head or washer head screws.

Mold is getting bad. Standing buildings leaked durring the storm. Our second story apartment faired well, but water came in from our celing as if our upstairs neighbors apartment had blown away... We were in shock to see it hadn't. The water stayed in the drywalling. 1st floor apts all soaked. The humidity here hasn't allowed for homes to dry out. So even though Eye have a home today, that could change soon. So hot we have to keep doors and windows open and put ourselves at risk of being looted in our restless slumber. Or close ourselves in and suffocate in the heat and smell of mold and mildew.

Rebuild with stronger building codes, including built in storm shutters, and design roof angles that allow wind to easily defect off it( roof slopes/pitch) limit roof over hangs, or come up with a better design, it’s time we upgrade the way homes and buildings are built on the coast, adding the metal connector strengthening the frame has been done for decades now and shown to help greatly but with advanced plastics and technology people should be able to buy a home that will stay on foundation and roof will stay on, I bet most homes standing and new or up dated building codes, now it’s time to find ways to limit the extra cost of implementing stronger building. It also goes for building any home anywhere to have the best chance to withstand natural disasters that occur in area.

Be interesting to see the data on wood homes vs concrete homes and the amount it's cost over the years to repair and pay out in terms of damages. Doing so would save a lot on resources every year especially on insurance, no?

For as long as we can figure the climate on this planet has always changed. Either with us or without us. No one ever got a written guarantee that this period of unusually temperate weather would persist. The rise of our species was due to climate change. Otherwise our ancestors never would have swung down from the trees. But as it warmed up and forests thinned out they had no choice. When they ate all the fruit in the tree they were in they had to get on the ground and walk to another tree. The rest is as they say prehistory.
