    Hey, the first fish you recommenced was a Ancistrus, and while this is good for most tanks, I have seen many of them being devoured by cichlids, and I highly am against it, even though every fish is different most cichlids are kept in groups in the home aquarium, due to this, there is a high chance at least one will want to eat the Ancistrus. One of the worst things about this is with cichlids, (Depending on your type) they will eat out the eyes first. Just go with a tank with only fish from a desired location so just go with some cichlids and some syno cats.

    Ancistrus was my favorite algae eater until I met the Chaetosomo species. Now I keep both. No Africans though..... yet.
    Lovely earrings.

    Hello. I bought a yellow Ancistrus today to add to my cichlid tank however my electric yellow cichlid keeps quivering at my pleco. Is that a bad sign?

    • @TOGTFOPLOX
      @TOGTFOPLOX 4 года назад

      I bought a pleco from petsmart and it was the biggest one they had. Roughly 4 inches long and pretty beefy. Didnt think he would get picked on in my cichlid tank because he's bigger than all the cichlids. After an hour of him being in the tank I had to take him out and put him in a separate tank because my yellowtail acei was going to town on him. The yellowtail ended up ripping his entire eye out his skull. 72 hours have passed since the incident and the pleco is still alive... will be interesting to see how long he will live. I might just take it back to petsmart before the 14 days and get something different. Maybe an otocinclus or a few snails.

    Here in Australia Bristlenose is very common. We don't like 2foot plecos lol. L Numbers are Rare and expensive.

    • @QuebecCichlides
      @QuebecCichlides  6 лет назад

      Good to know. They're not that common here in Qc. Most pet shops sell the big plecos because they are cheaper. I get so many people in my store who feel "stuck" with such a giant fish :S

    Can plecos survive in a salted cichlid tank?

    • @YourMajesty100
      @YourMajesty100 4 года назад

      Yup. I have salt in mine. Have mbunas. Jewel cichlids. Featherfin a bristlenose pleco and a green sunfish in mine. no algea what's so ever and perfect harmony. All bigger fish now. Just make sure u skip feeding the pleco once or twice a week to make sure they go after scavenging the algea because if u keep them fed every night then they wont bother to do so. Easier to eat what's given to them then scrub the algea off of your tank...but yes. They do fine in mine. In fact I have had HIGH levels of salt (2 tbs per 2 gallons of water)for treating various diseases before with no I'll effects.

    I breed super reds in my other tanks and are familiar with them and their diet. Im new to cichilids as i just started a new 75g mbuna tank. My question is how do i get a pleco wafer past the hungry cichilids as they share a similar diet. Tank has 8 yellow labs and 8 Demosoni, all 1.5 to 2 inches. The tanks brand new so theres not yet enough algae to support the plecos.

    Hello from Atlanta ! My existing fish (Guppies, swordtails, corys, etc) eat algae. I have mixed emotions about adding an Ancistrus.

    • @QuebecCichlides
      @QuebecCichlides  4 года назад +1

      Hi there. If the tank is big enough, there shouldn't be any issues.
      The fish you named aren't algae eaters. The guppies and swordtails might eat a little, but it's not their entire diet.
      As for the corys, they're more bottom feeders than algae eaters.

    If you buy five goldfish how long u need to take before u put them in

    • @kylebob6045
      @kylebob6045 4 года назад

      this is probably late, but if your talking about a already cycled tank go and wondering how long to float them in a bag for, a good rule of thumb that i go with is 20-30 minutes, but take longer if its from very different water temps, if you have just gotten a new tank, know how big goldfish can get, the common single tailed goldfish can get past 8 inches, if you have just set up a tank you could do 2 things, 1. take a bunch of water and 1-3 decorations from a already established tank you have had for a couple of months so that cycles your tank by putting in plenty of beneficial Bactria, if you cant do this then just run an empty tank for about 3 months before putting fish in, if you add plants you might be able to so it a bit sooner, but it will most likely be about the same time either way
