This is my first time listening to UPPERROOM. This teaching was so good. Praying in tongues it was something that I always wanted to do, and when I got it, I didn’t really use it, because I really didn’t fully understand what it meant. The Pastor’s explanation was so good. At the end I stayed praying in the Spirit for more than five minutes, and I started crying while praying a few different times. Wow, so good!!!!

If you're reading this, please pray for my friend Annie. She is a homeless, recovering addict. She has been through every type of pain you could imagine a person could go through. She has experienced loss, abuse, suicide attempts... And yet with Jesus, she has such a loving, strong heart. I have never met a woman like her. Please pray God will bring miracles into her life, and turn her situation around. I ask in Jesus name, Amen.
Dear God, I pray for Annie. Lord, I have never met her, but you know her so deeply. You knitted her together in her mother’s womb. You loved her before anyone else could. Right now, we surrender her situation to you. Lord we pray that you would bring healing into her life. You know exactly what she needs and God I pray that you would provide for her in miraculous ways. Give her the courage to look to you in the midst of all of her trials and pain. God we trust you to take care of her. Give her friend the right words to say to her as encouragement. We love you and praise you Lord. In your name Jesus, Amen. ❤

4 years ago I attended a worship conference and in that conference I felt the spirit telling me to speak these words that I don't understand. Right after the conference I heard companions saying that they heard someone speaking in weird language but they think it's not speaking in tongues because it doesn't sound chinese as what they heard from other worshippers. I was there pretending it was not me 😅 but another companion confirmed that it was me. And it's been 4 years since then I kept saying to my self that I think I've done the wrong thing, I thought I was doing the wrong thing and I believed I did the wrong thing and from that day on I never prayed the same way. It's just today that I got the courage to figure it out if it was really wrong or not. Now I know it was the enemy that made me believe I should stop doing it 🤦🏻♀️. Thank you for talking about it ❤️ Now no enemy can stop me from doing it.
Speaking in tongue is when the Holy Spirit allows you to say words you don’t understand but it’s understood by someone else who speaks that language.
Don't believe the lie anymore. You are absolutely correct. I had it revealed to me to speak in tongues a year and a half ago. The enemy came and told me it was worthless and I gave it up. There are several different kinds of tongues. Not all will be another language on earth. Holy Spirit knows your hearts intent. Now I speak in tongues every chance I get. Hallelujah!

My family and i are dancing to this song next Sunday as we celebrate the birth of our son after so many attacks during the pregnancy. Miracle Papa has done it again.
Raised Baptist I had no grid for praying in tongues. I thought people who did it were weird and I was taught, maybe by inference if not outright, that it was even demonically influenced. Yet, secretly there was a part of me that wanted to be able to do it and thought it was very cool and amazing. Fast forward to 2021 at the age of 51 I asked Jesus to fill me with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. I was all alone in my living room. I had always thought that the HS just overtakes you and you start speaking in a tongue..for me, I had to do it by faith by uttering syllables almost like a baby then I started laughing from somewhere deep inside me and kept getting more “fluent” as I relied on Him. Three years later it just pours out of me and I make a point to pray in the Spirit every day. Sometimes I struggle with doubt like what is this, is this real, etc… then I tell the devil the shut up. I am learning and trusting more day by day. The most evidence I have that it is straight up legit is that on the evening of October 6, 2023 I was in the bathtub and felt a leading to pray in tongues though my flesh didn’t really want to. Pretty soon I went into what I had only heard of as “travail”. Wailing, crying, even saying “repent!” This went on for probably 45 minutes and I thought ok…what was that about? .. the next morning I woke up to the news about the Israeli attack.
Keep praying in tongues , do yo iudo this now daily? I also started, I guess the truth is that when Jesus said "these signs will follow of those who belive" iam relatively new beliver, I didnt joy any church, I avoid it, so I went read bible, and pray and let it lead me, I was afraid of these religious groups (denominations). I been saved now like 6 montsh, but I try to have childlike with on all the promises that are in Bible. Are you from USA? Greetings from Finland!
@@partlysimpson5154 yes in Michigan in the US I also haven’t found a church ⛪️ there are many of us out here on fire for Jesus in our own homes. He must be preparing His people I’m so grateful he called me to Him but it does get very lonely without a local body of believers any church I have checked out is DEAD so I stay in my space and online too. I pray and worship and study the scriptures and ask Him to lead me. Just like you. We are not alone. God bless you. 💜

Yesterday was a kind of revelation day. At the vineyard community I belong to we had a similar message and could experience the Holy Ghost presence and I could discover he conforts ang heal our grief.

I've heard many people brag about speaking in tongues everyday for several hours. Some would speak in tongues and there would be ZERO interpretation. The Holy Spirit gives the motivation to speak in tongues according to Acts 2:4. I have witnessed an increase in good behavior, revelation, discernment, prophecy and understanding in those who are filled with the Spirit. Many of those people didn't have to speak in tongues to receive what God said He'd freely give to those who ask.
Many times people are babbling and think that they will be heard for their much speaking.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Matthew 6:7 KJV
the learning part really hit me i really did only hear certain phrases and syllables in the beginning of receiving tongues i would pray it in my car and eventually it got more fluent

Hey there, I am a spirited filled Cristian who definitely believes in the importance and power of speaking in tongues.
I'm wrestling with the idea of why a congregation would speak in tongues together in church, when in 1 Corinth 14 Paul states, he would rather speak 5 words with his mind than 10,000 words with his tongue in a church setting.
So my question is should a congregation speak in tongues together, and possibly send unbelievers away because of how crazy they sound as Paul states in 1 Corinth 14:23?
It seems as though Paul is promoting the form of tongues where you communicate with God to be done on your own for personal spiritual edification.
Well, if I tell you to pray unto God, then we are praying individually still as a community. And you see in the Bible in Acts that they all cried out with a loud voice unto God. So at the end of the day. They are praying to God not to each other. So even if we are praying together, we are praying to God not to each other.
I have hardly seen any unbeliever running away because they speak in tongues. As long as it is in the context of prayer 🙏 . In the Corinthian Church they only did speak in tongues.
from my understanding and from instances at my own church, one person would give a Word from the Lord through the gift of tongues, and someone would interpret it. This is for the edification of a body. As far as a congregation praying in tongues together, this just might be intercession. Sometimes our pastor will encourage us to pray in the Spirit for a specific request.
I agree with you. Acts 2:4 all day. Anytime anyone voluntarily speaks in tongues is in error.
Here's something to ponder. I only speak English. If I'm in a church where only Spanish is being spoken, how would I know IF/WHEN someone is speaking in an unknown language? To me, those people are speaking in an unknown language (tongues)....and I don't understand Spanish, so I would need translation/interpretation in order to receive edification/revelation.
Lastly, the Devil can speak in tongues too. The Devil also knows when someone's sprit is out of order no matter what tongue or language they speak, those tongues are in vain. Matt. 6:7
There is time of group Praying in tongues especially during the Prayer of Intercession ( Praying for others ).

Honest questions, where in scripture is prophecy equated to teaching?
Also why is it that when he speaks of an individual speaking in tongues it is the heavenly language. Yet, at 13:46, when it talks about the interpretation of tongues, he changes to meaning to be earthly foreign languages?
I am definitely a Continuationist, but the scripture is clear that prophecy (the foretelling of future events) and interpretation of tongues should be just as common at church as one speaking in tongues.

something confuses me, why people focus on Holy Spirit more then to Jesus ?
My only question is how this relates to 1st Corinthians 12:27-31. It seems like scripture is very blatant that not all followers have every gift, including tongues. Desiring gifts doesn’t mean we all have them all. All of chapter 12 actually seems to speak to God’s design of every part of the body of Christ having different gifts so God can be glorified as we work together.
Then in Numbers 22:28, we learn that “the LORD opened the donkey’s mouth
Is there a way I can watch the worship from this Sunday?
Read in context you’ll find the truth of tongues. 1 Corinthians Chapter 12,13,14. The greatest gift is LOVE. Prophecy is Paul great desire for the church not tongues.
I noticed lots charismatic TV evangelists focus on tongues, and so but they speak hours per day, if it's about building up, then why these evangelists have gone astray?
Friend, this is a disastrous reading of 1 Cor 14. Why skip v14??? "For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful." There is not a single commendation for the private edification of speaking in tongues found in this passage - Paul is saying that tongues must always be interpreted. Spiritual gifts were never meant for private edification but to edify the whole body, the church. To take a gift such as tongues and twist it for private edification is to miss the entire point of the passage.
Hi Patrick! I just want to push back on your 1 Corinthians 14 perspective a little bit in love. You’re saying that Paul In this passage does not permit the private edification of speaking in tongues, but only permits for corporate utterance with interpretation. To this I would push back and point to v17-20. Paul says that giving thanks (praying) in tongues may be well but the other person isn’t being built up (v.17)
1.) this implies that the person praying IS being built up, just not the outsider. Basically meaning that one does build themselves up with the personal parter in the spirit.
2.)In v.18-19 Paul says that he speaks in tongues MORE than the Corinthians BUT in the corporate gathering he would rather speak intelligible words for the whole body to be built up by.
… I hope this was helpful for you in anyway. I don’t believe Pastor Michaels reading was ‘disastrous’ or ‘twisting’. But regardless I hope you receive this push back with an open heart. God bless!
So, how about if you are praying in tounges privately and the Lord gives you a message for someone that greatly changes or impacts their life and when you share that with them they are helped and because of that you are encouraged and filled with joy. Isn't that being edified ?
You teach the benefits of tongues but you don’t teach how to receive it
Why? Because the power of religion is to fool as many people as possible. The more you can confuse everyone the less they will contest your presentation as not based on actual facts.
It is a cult.
