Yaaaayy, such an amazing video. Got a great view of the North Street Seventh-day Adventist Church. So many stories that place could tell. Standing at that location since 1907!!!! My my my...and still looking so beautiful. That's where it all began for the entire Caribbean. That place is special.
Bring back a lots of memory watching the video driving down north street.used too street Anne's Catholic school on north street..good times as a child.I am now a great grandmother.give God thanks
That took me way back to my pre-common entrance years when I spent my days down Duke Street at St. Alloysious. Those corners were my turns. I didn't realise how devoid of green areas my Kingston was. Don't know when North St was cut off at KPH and Madden's! At the beginning of the drive I saw what remains of a Chinese bakery where as a child I bought hot bread & butter. Those were the days my friend!!! Gone and never to return.
I walked these streets barefoot going to St Anne's School from Trench Town. I remembered getting a nasty cut from a broken bottle on North St near Spanish Town Rd. Nevertheless the buildings were intact and not in disrepair like they are today. I am so broken hearted to see the place looking so depraved now. 😢
Use to live at the corner of north street and Spanish town road on the right. there was a building with dwelling upstairs and a bar down stairs. I notice it's a vacant lot now...
Thank you so much, Lots of memories, I used to have dreams of me walking from Rollington Town along North street, to school but I would get confused once I turned down Charles St.
@Oh My, I really appreciate your comment and fact-check. Slipe Pen Road begins a few metres up (north) from the hospital's main entrance. I have edited the Closed Caption to clarified this.
I wasn't familiar with the part of North St where the video began although I did hear of Wellington St and Bread Lane. I'm familiar with the part from where you have all the funeral homes going out to KC. I remember the ice cream parlor at Oxford Street and North St. I used to buy its sugar bun, coffee strips, donuts etc. It was owned by a Chinese couple. What childhood memories!
The amount of improvement going on Downtown makes me hopeful. I hope these buildings and homes are part of the rejuvenation of Downtown. It's damn shame that this neglect was allowed to grow for so long. This part is going to be a challenge.
Say what you want about the images on this video but please observe that we didn't see any homeless people sleeping on the sidewalk. Common occurrence in NY.
Bailjumper, they are there....Need to go to King Street by the Court House especially after 7:00pm......men, women, the insane...it is a human tragedy!!
Well over forty years, (maybe about forty five), since I last was in that neighborhood, that I used to traverse. On the journey, I picked out certain land marks that I remembered from back in the days. Thanks for the flash back, (although it is now, of what was then)! Remembered getting my wrist watch taken from me by two thugs, on the lane that leads to Sabina Park, near to the cathedral on North Street. I was so, so, scared when they ran up to me demanding money, one guy had his hand in his waist, as if he had a gun. I was so relieved when they took the watch off my wrist and left. But, was shaken for the rest of the day. Don't remember ever walking back on that lane again. Wonder what became of those guys?
Don’t feel bad, I remember coming from KC traveling on the same North Street, 2 boys wanted to cut off a ring off my finger. Thank God that I made it through those days and I learned valuable lessons regarding street walk from back then to now. From Kingston to Detroit. Lol
Jamaica a big class country when these over head road complete....🤝🤝👍👍Mr Prime Minister good job.... We the yute want to see jamaica transform in world class..
Does anyone know the name of the infant /prep school that used to exist at the corner of North Street and Love lane? (School premises shown on the left behind high wall, at the corner of Love Lane @ 5:52 of this video). Thank you.
I'm glad that you show all parts of Jamaica; the ugly and the beautiful. No shame in seeing how far we've come and where we have to go. No matter how long it's been since I left originally, it will always hold a place in my heart. I was back in July, 2019 and some areas in Kingston need fixing but still it's ours. No need for anyone to feel ashamed of it.........
