  • Commentary is a critical aspect of any RUclips video, but it's especially important in a WWE Games Universe Mode. Strong visuals may catch someone's attention, but without engaging commentary, you probably won't keep their attention. Today, I'm going to discuss some tips and tricks on how to improve your Universe Mode commentary. Hopefully this advice can help you in some way, but if you think there is something that I missed, let me know down in the comments!

    You hit it on the head. I think I get too excited at times but it's all realistic. I don't force my enthusiasm. I have a lot of fun doing the commentary and have been doing it for years without recording myself. Also, making up stories depending on how the match develops is great advice. That part comes natural for me. Great advice on this video man but ultimately, someone has to have fun doing it and it has to come naturally. Some people have to be honest, that they can't do commentary. I just need a better mic. Any suggestions?

    • @Mathwiz97X
      @Mathwiz97X  7 лет назад +2

      I have been using the Blue Snowball since 2013, and I love it. You could do better with a higher-priced mic, but for a cheap USB mic that sounds good, you can't beat the Snowball. If you did want something better, the Blue Yeti is another one that most people use. It gets more technical beyond that, but those two are the simple, effective microphones that I know about.

    Another good piece of tip is to find an inspiration for how you do commentary. Going through my own binge experience of WWF in the 90s, Vince was actually quite enjoyable to listen to at commentary when he's calling the match (Most of my favorite is when he's going for the count like "one, TWO AND A-- No just a two!") so I felt like my influence would come from that. JR is also another good source of influence.
    But for actual solo commentary influence, can't go wrong with Joey Styles in the ECW days, man just calling the match from start to finish on his own. And in an internet example, Jerma in the Jerma Rumble series was pretty much killer with his own commentary that if he ever does commentary for wrestling, I believe would get people more engaged.

      I’m late at replying (I’m watching this series before I start) and he is accurate. Denk uses only Chris Danger and makes him become overpowered.

    Interesting video, and all very valid points. The way I see it (because yes, my two cents count XD), is that decent commentary means people will want to watch more of each video. Even if you like the ideas someone has, if the commentary bothers them, they will more than likely skip matches simply to see results. Good storytelling adds to the suspension of disbelief, making it feel more alive rather than simply a gameplay video. Also, you say never use a script, and I agree, but what about keeping a crib sheet of bullet points? in such a way that you don't end up stumbling over words when trying to recall previous events or trying to tell the current story?

    • @Mathwiz97X
      @Mathwiz97X  7 лет назад +1

      I did say that keeping a list of bullet points would be a good idea. I personally don't do that, but I probably should have when I first started. Sometimes you just get lost and you need something to bring you back on track.

    Funny thing for me I remember as a kid I would commentate on matches that I would play on a wrestling game that I was playing lol little that I know that I would be doing my own universe mode and commentary as far as how I sound it feels so natural for me like at the start I have energy when there's a slow point in the match I speak with less energy but still enough so I don't sound monotoned need to work on when very exciting things happen or when a heel is doing a vicious attack on a face. Lol shows how crazy life is but very cool video I can learn stuff from it.

    Good advice mate, but I'm curious to know, how do I call the moves correctly? When I'm working on commentary there's times where the wrestlers execute a move or finisher that I don't know the name of, normally I just say "wow what a move!" Or "Bray Wyatt looking to end the bout" and although that's ok, it's better to know the moves, any tips around this?

    • @Mathwiz97X
      @Mathwiz97X  5 лет назад +3

      I basically do the same thing, if I can't think of a move name off the top of my head, I usually just avoid it and focus on something else. You can try to familiarize yourself with more moves by looking them up in the game, but I don't know if there's another way to suddenly just know what moves are.

    My biggest problem is that I stream my episodes of Universe Mode. I cannot make any interesting cutscenes or anything along those lines because it is all live and it would be distracting if a match ended, and then I had to make the cutscene, and it would take up so much time. That is my main problem. The reason I do not record my universe mode episodes is because I record/stream from my PS4 and that means if I wanted to upload them, it would be a difficult progress because I had to film them, then put the clips in Sharefactory (I would use sony vegas but I don't have a USB drive or something along those lines to transport the finished scenes too) and then I have to upload them, so in order to make one single episode it would take a few hours, which is why I find streaming easier, but it does not make it as entertaining, and because of that I am having trouble thinking where my universe mode is going to go because the only thing that I can do that honestly works is a backstage brawl/fight at the beginning of the show, but those everytime I want to start a feud/rivalry is boring because it gets repetitive, nice video man with great tips and I will be surely to watch your universe mode series soon, thanks a lot for the commentating tips :)

    • @Mathwiz97X
      @Mathwiz97X  7 лет назад

      A single episode takes me several hours between the recording, editing and commentating. If you're content with streaming, then do that, though I think that you are severely limiting yourself by doing that. It all depends on whether or not you want to put in the work to do more creative things with it (also depends on if you have the time to do that).

    • @XDogeGamingX
      @XDogeGamingX 7 лет назад

      Mathwiz97X Yeah, I have realized that when viewing some other universe modes, I am going to try to record the next episode and see how that works out, thank you for responding and I appreciate the help :)

    Hey do you think a universe mode with no commentsry would be intresting

    • @Mathwiz97X
      @Mathwiz97X  7 лет назад

      Personally? No. At that point, I feel like I could just play the game myself. Commentary gives me a personality to latch onto - something that clearly distinguishes one Universe Mode from another.
      That's just my personal opinion, though. I'm sure there are a bunch of people who would disagree with me on that.

    • @Mathwiz97X

      Create 2 major shows, and assign some people to Raw and some to SmackDown. If you want a visual presentation of how to do it, BrendenPlayz made a video about it: ruclips.net/video/W5tUI3YMY7s/видео.html

    Interesting.... have you ever thought of doing like a face commentary and a heel commentary?? Is you the only doing all the talking seems like you a partner brah :) you should find someone unless you got it.. just didn't want having trouble doing all the work. sorry if you already doing it.. I just started watching :)

    • @Mathwiz97X
      @Mathwiz97X  7 лет назад

      The problem with getting a second person is that I'd have less time to record the commentaries. I'd have to plan around working with someone else, which would only slow things down. It would also take a while for that person's style to gel with my own.
