Life will find a way. I would keep one year worth of MREs on hand for each member of my family. I live in rural Missouri. I can a lot of food. And dehydrated a lot of meat. Keep about 1 year of food for each member of your family. Over and above the MREs.
Remember keep a lot of jars of peanut butter on hand it will store for a good 40 years. Keep jars of peanuts. Sealed bags of dry fruits. Slim Jim's and beef jerky will last years is stored properly. Keep water purification tablets on hand. Oh ya guns knife's and shit tones of ammunition on hand.
What are you going to do for water. You would even at 2ltrs per person a day for 365 days need well over 3000ltrs. Also no medications will exist and most manufacturing gone. Doesn't matter how much you prep or arm. There will not be much reason to live.

Nuclear weapons airbursts, ground bursts, and a few shallow underground bursts would not cause massive planet wide earthquakes.

There'd also be local hotspots from ground bursts.

I would be curious to someday see information on what various governments in the southern hemisphere have in their contingency plans for if the countries in the northern hemisphere start lobbing nukes at each other.
I doubt a country like Namibia has such contingency plans. They would just declare a state of emergency and hope for the best. Australia has some obviously but its a target for both China and Russia maybe NK at some future point. Brazil might have it but in all honesty they'd be happy. All those desperate technically skilled individuals from the North will flee South and work for peanuts. The alternative is ugly. In fact the biggest issue for Brazil and Argentina would be to actually have these people accepted by the common man in their countries. Telling a brazilian postnuke 'Oh yeah I worked for the US military as a contractor' won't win any sympathy. So perhaps hiding their skills and writing them off as war refugees. In a postnuke world it would be risky to talk about such stuff so best to shut up. Heck postnuke pretend you were a tree hugging hippie. 'oh yeah I was the only one who didn't want a war'.

Not an accurate view of post nuclear war. Many areas will only have relatively low radiation and zero fallout. The arctic Antarctica, many islands in Oceana and large countries with non relevant cities.
