Had trouble getting my mercury 50 classic started. "Hot wired" it using your diagram. Runs like a champ. Need to replace the keyed ignition switch. Thanks for posting this helpful video.

Just did this job to my Yamaha throttle and shifter cables. Worked great! Thanks! For others, I used a CLP gun lube. Same concept as the 3 in 1.

That looks pretty good if you're determined to keep the same cables. That crud that ends up in the bucket used to be part of the cable. I don't know, I've had a steering cable break offshore that cured me of the temptation to short cut and pinch pennies. If it's really stiff it might be ready to break. I chose to lubricate that steering cable. Sitting in that motor well steering that monster by hand, shouting out speed changes in rough water. The only time ever, I wondered if we were going to make it back.
Thanks for watching my video! I'm with you. It is cheap insurance to get new cables. Quite the experience you had! You may like my other videos. Just type Lsailor1 in the RUclips search bar. Like them? Subscribe for the latest! Best, The Sailor.

If you had any stiffness, it will be gone by the time you've watched this !Remember, it is critical to use a pink flesh tone container to catch the flushed crud. Do NOT skimp by trying to use any other color.

Nice tip
Man im hoping you can help me. I have a similar throttle on a 1989 Cobia Monte Carlo 189xl. It has a 1988 135 mercury 2 stroke. I can't seem to find a unit that would work for my engine. All the once i see online that look just like mine say 2004 and higher models. My key and ignition are screwed up. It's messing with the killswitch or something. Not getting any spark at the sparkplugs. My neighbor thinks it can have something to do with the kill switch or ignition. Any tips would be highly appreciated.
Thanks for watching my video! As for parts for your engine (to include the controller) go to www.marineengine.com/. As for not starting, go to my channel by typing Lsailor1 in the RUclips search bar and you will see all sorts of videos on outboards and one includes not starting. Best, The Sailor.
Thank you, very useful. One question if I may: MUST one take the cable off? Can you not disconnect the cable at both ends, do the procedure and re-connect? I'm thinking of how much easier that would be than re-threading. If you need to re-thread, then I believe I would just replace the cable.

When I put mine in gear the throttle with fast idon and stuff one even move and it controls the speed how do I fix that
Awesome video, if the cables aren’t the problem and it is in the controller does anyone have an idea of how to fix it? Even with my cables disconnected the controller will have about half the range of motion it should
Thanks for watching my video and your kind comment! If you haven't done it, you need to take it apart and grease it. Go to my videos (type Lsailor1 in the RUclips search bar) and look for my video on how to take apart the controller. Like my videos? Subscribe for the latest! Best, The Sailor.
My set of controls does not have plates on the back. The throttle cable is very stiff and I would like to clean and lube it but wanted to know how to take it apart. Any thoughts?
Thanks for watching my video! You need to find out what kind of controller you have and then go to Marineengine.com to see a schematic on how to open it up. You may like my other videos. Just type Lsailor1 in the RUclips search bar. Like them? Subscribe for the latest! Best, The Sailor.

You are going to need something like this that is either port or starboard capable: www.ebay.com/itm/263271102401 Best, The Sailor
Thanks for your help, I am going to try to do it
jose betancort Best of luck!

Can I just use WD40?
Or even 5W30 engine oil to clean it out?
Thanks for watching my video! Any light weight oil will be fine. You want it to flow with the air pressure and take the dirt/corrosion with it. Do it several times till the oil comes out clean. Thanks i'll try it! I'll also give your channel a visit in a minute!
@@lizasaraviacanessa2276 Thanks so much! Best, The Sailor.
WD 40 isn't exactly a lubricant it's a cleaner and water displacement aid. Just change the cables. You get way out somewhere and it breaks or freezes up and that 40 bucks is going to start looking like a pretty good deal.
