Boomerang Paper Airplane / Mr. Denjiro’s Happy Energy!

DENJIRO: I’m sure you’ve all played with a paper airplane before. Today, I’m going to show you some unique ways of playing with a paper airplane. First, it’s the boomerang paper airplane. It comes right back to you like a boomerang when you fly it. I start off by folding a normal paper airplane. There are two key factors for making this paper airplane return like a boomerang.
One is to make the rear of the wings face up. The other is how you throw it. Normally, you gently throw it forward. But with the boomerang paper airplane, you turn your wrist around and throw it up. Let me show you.
BOY: The paper airplane came back!
DENJIRO: By bending the rear of the wings, the rear of the plane gets pushed by air, and the tip faces up. This makes the plane do a somersault. Throwing it upward makes it easier for the plane to do a somersault, and as a result, it does a flip and returns.
To demonstrate, let me curve the rear of the wings even more.
BOY: The loop got smaller!
DENJIRO: The force that makes the tip point up becomes greater, so the plane makes a smaller loop. Let me show you another interesting way of flying this paper airplane. I’ve attached string to a stick and attached the other end to the plane’s wing. I’m going to swing the stick around.
BOY: It’s flying nonstop!
DENJIRO: You can make the plane fly for as long as you can swing the stick around for. Try spinning along with the plane. You’ll get dizzy, but you’ll be able to observe how the plane is flying.
