Good summary. I would buy post-1947 UK coins in bulk as they don't have the silver content.

It's not necessarily the fact that they are made of Cupro-Nickle that determines their value, it's also the number that were minted, the condition and the desirability/interest that determines the value

If you use the original Imperial weights of these coins instead of grams, you would discover that a half crown weighed 1/2 oz, a sixpence (tanner) weighed 1/10 oz, a shilling (bob) 1/5 oz and a two bob bit was 2/5 oz. This meant the weight of one pound's worth of "silver" coins weighed almost exactly 4oz.
