The bootloader gets corrupt for the video processor. This is a known issue with NAND flash when its left for a period of time. I think there is enough evidence that supports GoPro NOT bricking the drone via a firmware update. I think the fact that a few people working from their backyard were able to fix this issue shows that GoPro didnt put a lot of effort into fixing it for people.
@ Also, if I understand correctly you know a guy that was making repair kits for this problem? Is this something that is still possible to purchase by chance?
