In reality it's the drugs he took that truly destroyed the man. Even though it can look like it's the betrayal from Ecbert, the one from Rollo plus Floki killing Aethelstan, that could have led him down this path. In my opinion, his mind and body was too weak at the time when invading Paris a 2nd time because of the drugs he took for awhile plus his addiction he couldn't get over with while going to war. Plus he knew he couldn't trust his brother and how he always was and he did trust him again on something too important to take any chances like he did. So that was pretty naive on his part and a bit cliche if you ask me. He was supposed to be alot more wiser than this and in a way you could say that his naivety and bad analytical thinking because probably of the drugs made him lose it and feel too much shame to want to rule anymore. Considering himself not worthy of his title and the respect from his people that he might lose forever for those mistakes. So he secluded himself for a few years then came back with a plan to use his sons to get his revenge on Ecbert by motivating the vikings and his sons to rally and mass against the english kings by sacrificing himself to have his heroes death(or as one might say ... a martyr's death). (hahaha how Ironic) It actually didn't made any sense since he knew for a long time about Ecbert's betrayal and he didn't do anything and didn't cared that much as he should have at the time it happened or after when he could have done something because he had the power to do so at that time. It's revenge on Rollo that should have been his primary focus after being massacred in the 2nd raid against Paris. It's a shame really even though i too consider him a legend. But hey in the end the focus of the series was to show how the vikings were able to gain a foothold on some of Britannia's territories for a bit more than a century long of conquest and reconquest until the Viking age ended. Because before Ragnar's times which they purposely ignored and made it look like Ragnar's idea to raid west was his idea and the 1st viking to do so which isn't true at all, since raid from vikings in england's territory started in the years around his birth. Supposedly 4 years after his birth, exactly. If the man ever existed haha. I could keep at it and explain from my point of view why producers and writers like to focus on 1 great character only but whatever.. this text is too damn long and you guys probably ain't gonna read it and probably don't care or already knows why if you are a tad bit smart haha!! so fuck it and have a great day guys!

Seriously though as brutal as it was, one of the best scenes is ragnars first raid near england against the monks, its a very impressive display of viking cruelty, while showing how ragnar was more than how most vikings were, by him sparing athelstan.
Ragnar has so many points of contact with my ways of thinking, my actions and behavior, and my attitude. That is very apparent in this video! It's strange but cool to be able to recognize yourself in such a character.
As others have said Travis can draw you in with his charisma and good acting...you just cant help but like him. Combine that with a really good show, and you have nothing short of a masterpiece. Really good edit too, you captured the essence of ragnars story.
The only Vikings film I really Love , it's a perfection, more than a movies, a real story about what we know, thanks a lot to the directors ti make this !

He was truly the reason I watched the series. After his death it all went downwards for me to the point of flat out not watching it anymore. I felt he was the core of the whole thing and nothing after was as strong to carry the show. Might rewatch it at some point, but only for him.

WHAT IS THIS? it is a masterpiece , i loveee it so much , i enjoyed every single part of it , the mucis choice and parallel between scenes is perfect , i gotta say that this video is going to my fav now , i love this character so much , was my fav character in the show , and this edit has covered his life story till his death , really great job on this one !!!!!

He was truly the reason I watched the series. After his death it all went downwards for me to the point of flat out not watching it anymore. I felt he was the core of the whole thing and nothing after was as strong to carry the show.
Might rewatch it at some point, but only for him.
