@@m.omarmartinez8423 Watch their TV performances chronologically and you'll see what I mean. Start with Come See about Me on Ed Sullivan, December, 1964. Diana is popping her eyes, what Motown's in-house Etiquette guru Maxine Powell called "Making Faces." Watch them in 1965 singing "I Hear a Symphony," on Hullabaloo where Diana's shoulders are hunched up high (she references this stiffness in her autobiography). The Supremes were always professional and always poised, but I've been watching their performances in chronological order and the performance in this video is the first time I see Diana looking comfortable letting loose. She truly looks like she's enjoying herself here. Check out the opening of the TCB special for more of the same.

She delivered a remarkable rendition to "The Lady Is A Tramp". She should have done more Jazz. Agreed. It's all about intimate phrasing and incisive diction. This is why she could sell the Cole Porter so convincingly. This performance really was Diana's "star" moment, and one of the best TV appearances by the group overall that cemented setting them apart as not being a "female singing group," but a major entertainment act. Everything and everybody here looked, performed and sounded excellent. I think that none of the former Supremes should ever really have felt that they were lost in Diana Ross's so-called shadow: IMO, they all earned and shared the fortune of remaining quite recognizable and fondly remembered, each one individually, as uniquely talented members of the best female vocal group of the 1960s and '70s. :j

"Reflections" is possibly one of their strongest songs. As a kid, the hits from the group just came wizzing by, then this-a serious dramatic big song. Just the tempo changes, the severity of the orchestration. All the while the ringing Motown rhythm, but the writing and melody is something else. Others have attempted to cover the song with mixed results. Nobody has come close to this original recording.

Live performances of songs like "Riding high" "No one geht's the prize" "let's go up"
Are more than enough proof that she could belt whole phrases and sustain notes around F5 to A5 with ease.
She doesn't sound strained or unsupported, her voice is clear and strong up there.
It's just not something she did very often.
Her softer singing was not the result of incapability to belt, just her preferred approach.

It's the same in every group, the lead singer always think they are higher than God. The other members silently suffer & begruntled, but because they feel they created the band/group, they are irreplaceable, but no such luck, it's the one who brings in the most money, be it, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson or whoever, it's all about the money, with the exception of the late Levi Stubbs, (lead singer of The Four Tops), who refused to change the name of the group, or leave & go solo. All the rest said, "F. I." (Richard Pryor's language), this is my big & one & only chance, I love you gang, but I gotta do what I gotta do.
As Diana said in her song, "Remember Me", Bye baby, see you around, didn't I tell you I wouldn't hold you down. Remember me, as a good thing.

That was the extent of Mary's talent at least that is what she believed which is why she stayed in the background instead of taking the lead when Diana left. I think she would have been a success with the public cause she was a orignal. Jean Terrell was not.

That part. Diana taught Mary how to do her makeup. And even did the other girls makeup in the early days. Designed and sewed a few of their early outfits. Diana contributed a LOT to this group and was the special ingredient that made the 3 of them Supreme. Mary said they felt like one complete woman when together.

Mary absolutely did her thing... MANY times. I may also add, the non inclusion of Mary in that RTL fiasco speaks volumes about her importance in the group. #TeamDiana but also #TeamSupremes! Every one contributed a major part, they were a group, not a DR solo act!

Mary Wilson made sure the RTL tour failed by going on a negative media blitz and spitting like a wet cat in TV interviews. Diana Ross was the Supremes and you know it.
