If you're soooo determined to have a first place podium finisher that sucks gas like no tomorrow then by all means give this bike a miss. Get a KTM 690 but I'm buying a crf300 l rally for the right reasons. Here's why. In New Zealand our fuel prices are through the roof!
I have two dirt bikes WR 450F , a KLX 300 but they're only dirt bikes and if I want an adrenaline rush I ride the WR but right now I want to whimsically point a bike in a direction and go wherever I want (within reason) on a modest adequate docile fuel sipper that allows me to chill and smell the roses affordably. I guess this video is purely based on circumstances.

Best of luck with the future bike you choose. Coming from someone that plans to buy a 300L Rally soon, if I was in your situation, selling the 300L for a dirt bike makes perfect sense. Why have the disadvantages of a duel sport when you dont need a duel sport? Its about getting the most out of your riding, not being part of a particular bike club. I need a duel sport because I plan to sell everything and live off my bike for a while traveling the country. This honda is the perfect bike for it. I wish they had a Honda 450L with the same street type engine as the 300L and not the high maintenance racing engine because this bike, including myself, will be carrying about 380lbs. Probably wont do much better than 65mph with that weight and I will need to get some heavy duty springs for the rear. As you have said in your videos several times, true words of wisdom, there is no perfect bike for everything.

I wanted to thank you for the DRZ400 Gripper Seat video. I ordered and installed myself - came-out perfect and looks amazing. I wish that you would have tried the DRZ400S Dual Sport instead of the CRF300L. I've upgraded the aesthetics on my DRZ400S and reduced the weight by 10-lbs. Now my DRZ400S looks amazing and rides like a flickable motocross bike. The suspension on the DRZ400S is already amazing. My DRZ400S has 11.5" of travel front and rear with 12" of ground clearance - these are motocross specs. A 400cc motor is the perfect dual sport motor size with enough speed and torque to work well on street and dirt. If I had access to an extensive trail system within driving distance to my house and a truck-trailer rig, I would probably get a motocross bike also. But I do enjoy riding my DRZ400 on the street.

I felt the same about my 690 and kinda went through the same decisions and life realizations you did. Thought I'd be doing a lot more adventure type rides. Realized that with a house and wife and 2 dogs I do a lot more "truck it to the trailhead" than long rides. Ended up with a KTM 500 xc-w and I'm SO happy with that decision. Any canyon roads I'm on the 500 with are so much fun, and I just hate highway but it'll do it. But when you get off road the 500 is just absolutely amazing.

After having my Yamaha air cooled xt250 stolen, the 300 was my next choice. The xt was my first bike and i loved it. I love my Honda. Is it a better bike than the xt? Yes. Does it have as much character and charm? No. The Honda is a great bike, but the XT had such a charm to it.

I had a 250L, KTM 690, 300, and now a 500 XCFW. Honestly the 500 is more fun than the 300 out in the AZ desert. With a $300 tuner, the 500 never dies on me like your old 450l so don’t be afraid of the 500.

If you're going to be riding slow technical stuff in the hot desert, I'd go with a W variant 300 2 stroke. The 4 strokes are going to run a lot hotter. The 4 strokes will be a lot better in the high speed stuff though, especially if you go with the stiffer suspended XC-F rather than the XCF-W. A good compromise might be a 300 XC for a 2 stroke with stiff suspension.

I loved my 250XCW and have rode plenty of 300's, like I said in the video I still need something somewhat street-able and I'd hate to burn up a top end on the highway. I still need the option to go the distance. Trust me I wish I could.

All i want to say is the 250/300 xc-w are the best single track/off road bikes I’ve ever ridden. Just absolutely awesome for the gnarly stuff - light, clickable and just lugs like a tractor. Gotta think about 20-22 on the exc's if you want the 500 to feel as light and nimble as the older 350's, from what I hear. I went through the same exact process, 300L to "it's not ideal for me out west in the tough stuff" to 350 or 500exc. Ultimately, I went with the 500 because I've found myself really liking the low end of it (for the slow stuff and hill climbs), and that the 350 would be buzzier (the ktms have vibes) whereas the 500 is gutteral and doesn't bug me vibration-wise in the same way, and because the 500 on the street is much more desirable. I plan on 5% street out West but that's still enough seat time at 65mph + that the 500 makes a difference I think. I also want to camp a lot and want the overall versatility of the 500. If I were just riding off road and always had the van nearby, I think I'd like the 350 more because apparently the newer ones feel super light (post 19).

I had a CRF100F from '06 until '20. Great little bike! I used mine exclusively for tight single track in the mountains of Colorado. I ended up selling it in 2020 and bought a new DRZ-125L as it's replacement. As much as I liked the CRF100, I'm liking this bike a lot more. It's just easier to ride, more comfortable with the longer suspension and has really good brakes, and more low end torque for climbing. Still super light, so if you get stuck on a root or a tight spot, just pick it up and lift it over. I've also owned a DR650 for many years as my dual sport. Taken a lot of long trips on that one, it's great fun. But, it's no good for single track, have to pick your trails carefully.

If you havent bought a new bike yet, the 2022 KTM EXC-F 500 is worth it over the 350. My gf and I have both (myself on the 500 and her on the 350) and i can say the 500 is easiere to ride. It takes off much smoother and has a smoother power transition. The 350 is a little bronco in 1st gear and we actually had to find ways to "detune" it for her. I recommend you ride both, but i garuntee you wont be unsatisfied going with the larger bike.

500 is only about 3 or 4lbs heavier and can ride highway speeds much more comfortably at lower rpm than the 350. Also the 500 has tons of torque down low to mid where you'd be riding it. I was in your shoes and on the fence but do not regret getting the 500 at all. Whatever you decide both are great bikes just thought i'd throw in my two cents.

But having 45 to 50 pounds less weight (compared to CRF300L and KLX300) on that Husky 350 sure sounds tempting.

I agonized for months over the fe350s vs. the fe501s and I went with the 500. After riding it for the past month, I regard going for the 500 as one of the best decisions of my life.

Good to see you get off that heavy dirt bike with no power 😜! Get yourself a two-stroke 250 or 300 do not do a motocross variant though if you are riding trails. Beta, Sherco, Husqvarna, KTM, gas gas, TM and Yamaha YZ 250X are all great bikes. Beta also has a 200 that is super light and fast!

Why doesn’t Honda build a modern XR400, they would sell the heck out of them!!!

Agreed.. I wish they would put more time into developing bikes that riders want and not just what sells the most.

whats funny is that when i tried to get a 300l i could not find one anywhere and the only place that had one was Freedom Power Sports but they want almost 8k for an out the the door price so instead i bought a used 2018 Suzuki RM-Z 250 which is a great bike so Tanner love ur vids with the 300l it had a good run but im excited to see whats next

I owned the 22' GPX FSE300R, just skip it, efi on the chinese bikes is not predictable, Delphi efi cuts fuel on decel,(like the stock crf450l) super lurchy/jerky throttle response. I played with mapping, could never get it right. I now own the 22 GPX FSE250E air cooled/carb bike, I like it better then the 300. IF you go gpx stick with carb model, but its no ktm. I have the 22 ktm 350xcf-w and riding the ktm back to back vs the gpx, its not even close. Not even considering the power difference, the ktm is twice the bike and then some. Thanks for the years of entertainment!

Just bought new CRF 300L in Feb. last friday my battery discharged over 2 days to 1,6V , keys were not in ignition and I have no idea why or what happend, after charging battery now works fine for a 5 days. I am worried that it will happen again. Hazards are not working when keys are not in position I. Do you have any idea what can be wrong?

Well I typically ride on my families farm land, we have some shelter belts and stuff. Western North Dakota is probably more what you want tho, Medora is out there and that’s pretty fun. But nothing compared to what you are used too

@@AdventureDaily hahah I own a gpx fse 250 e !!! I have tons of videos!! I hate there community though!! There like a cult and only believe the gpx is the best bike out there 😂😂😂 there great for trail riding but when push hard is we’re you see there down falls!! For the money there not bad but parts in the future is what worries me!! I couldn’t even get a rear fender and tail light assembly from them for my 21.5 model that was less then a yr old as the bikes change some in 22!! They basically pull parts from bikes from what I was told so they don’t have a big parts department for the big bikes they sell!! There 2 stroke is definitely there best bike they have though and Iv ridden it!! They have a new 300 2 smoker coming but Iv heard they have lots of problems with them already over seas!! You take a big risk when buying a China bike!! And also resale your gonna lose big!!
