- The one in which Rod accidentally swears at a six-year-old Spin Quiz contestant. But before we reach that groundbreaking moment, we're blessed with Grotbags's newest master plan of infiltrating the audience at the Pink Windmill and walking off with Emu unnoticed. This episode was originally broadcast on Friday, 26th April, 1985 - a significant date in Pink Windmill history, as pointed out at 23:50. (Though I'm sorely disappointed by the total lack of Paul Hardcastle with fake beard and cake.)
This one's as fun as ever, but for some reason, everyone seems to be tripping over their words at one point or another (except the birthday boy himself, who has to be content with them opening his mic after he's started his link). I know it may sound like I'm over-egging the pudding here, but the show really could have been hauled off the air for less than Rod mistakenly saying the word "damn" on Children's ITV back then. It makes for a brilliant moment of live TV though, as communication with the Shetland Isles breaks down in more ways than one and Rod starts talking about running up and down a lighthouse to the bafflement of little Kirsty on the other end of the line. And, for the record, I still have no idea what she really said - anyone? Perhaps Kirsty's reading this right now and can enlighten us.
I get the feeling that every so often someone - possibly musical director Colin Campbell - decided to inject something with a bit more class into the Kids' dances, and here that task is fulfilled admirably by the 1930s song Let Yourself Go, written by Irving Berlin and recorded by the likes of Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, Ella Fitzgerald, and a whole host of others. The swimming pool isn't mentioned in the credits, but I suspect it may be the same place where they shot Keep On Trying. It helps to give the whole number a bit of a Busby Berkeley feel, but with plenty more splashing and loads more fun. The extremely sharp-eyed among you may notice that the audience member who gets a quick dance with Rod is the very same audience member who goes on to win nowt but a cold chip from Grotbags during the Cauldron Game. What a roller-coaster of a day out young Eloise had.

That's a well-deserved kick up the backside from Grotbags to the audience, who didn't exactly get into the spirit of things when asked to pounce on her to save Emu. In fact, look at the lad sitting right next to 'Gertrude'! That's a face that just screams, "Nope. Not having it."
Anyway, elsewhere, Glebe High School in Sydney Harbour is the subject of the Twin Schools section, Rod and Emu help out with some overgrown budgies, and Odd Job John is building a rocket in that Boggle's Kingdom that was held over from the previous series (with new inserts featuring Prince Poorly). I love the bit where Boggle misses the door - I think that may be Rod's nod to Stan Laurel, who I know he was a fan of. Oh, and how quickly did you get the joke of referring to Abbie as "Miss National"? Or do I literally have to say "Abbey National" for you to twig? For overseas viewers:

@@bettylou3909 Yep, we're still looking and asking around. We're all certain the missing ones _must_ be out there somewhere! I've a feeling that first series is going to prove particularly tricky, as it featured a completely different set of Pink Windmill Kids, but I live in hope... :-)
I can't believe it - the "Age of not Believing" number where they get through the invisible barrier is one of my earliest memories!! If I saw the original broadcast rather than the repeat in the Pink Windmill series I must have been 3 (!) I remember the song and dance numbers being the BEST things ever and thinking the kids were so grown up and cool. Can't believe I've found this - thanks so mucn for uploading. Weird how imaginative parts of kids TV stay with you :)

When Grotbag started to give a can of something as a prize, and then went 'ooh no!', it makes me think that that was meant to be a booby prize in one of the two cauildrons that wasn't picked.
Also, before watching, I saw the bit in the description about this being where Rod accidentally swore, but diidn't read on to see what he said, so when it got to that part and the kid turned out to be from the Shetlands I was convinced that Rod was going to make an unfortunate mispronunciation of the first half of that place name.

What a pleasant surprise! Another fun episode, especially "Let Yourself Go" - quite reminiscent of the types of numbers done in Emu's World. Just a small technical question, how come this is the first Emu upload in awhile to not be in HD?
Yeah, I really like Let Yourself Go, too. Funny to think they'd do a song that was older than Rod himself, but there you go. On the technical side, I'm afraid the tape wasn't available for me (which I need to get a decent HD upscale) - but all credit to Spencer for pulling out the stops and getting a recording to me one way or another. :-)
@Noreen Sabelle Hope you get this - RUclips only went and disabled comments on Let Yourself Go (sigh...) before I could reply to you. To answer your questions:
- The only copy of The Old Bazaar in Cairo episode I have was sent to me by the person who uploaded it to RUclips. I'm still looking for a VHS recording so that I can work my magic on it.
- HD upscales? Once the Pink Windmill set is 100% complete, yes, that's my plan. Eventually. :-)
- Only 1.5 Corona songs to go, yes! Not only that, but only 11 episodes in total we don't have complete, of which only five we have absolutely no trace of at all. We edge ever nearer...

One of my earliest favorites! I actually once dreamed that my best friend and I were PWKs with this lineup! And we were performing let yourself go! It was the first dream about PWK that I ever had. That’s why it’s been dear to my heart ever since.
Oh, it's a _really_ good routine, isn't it? Excellent dancing in the studio, brilliant stuff in and around the pool, and we even end with a mini-solo from Abbie. We couldn't ask for more!
@@VideotapeFTW very much so! I love songs where Abbie has those mini-solos at the end: like footloose, let yourself go, or body work! Iconic and super cute :)
Also, something I noticed about this song and Keep on Trying: there’s a block of solos done by Joe, Emma, Alistair, and Debbie, in that order, in both songs. Resurrection Shuffle has the same thing, though the soloists aren’t in the same order. Noticed it when I first started watching and I loved it :)

It's a really poor quality recording of the 1990 Children's Royal Variety Performance, but I swear there are a few familiar faces dancing in that rock 'n' roll medley. It's not easy to tell, but do you recognise any of them? (There's another brief close-up during the finale around 54.20.)

As a Northern European I would’ve loved if these vhs/cds were available where I live. Do you know anything about were they sell these series in sweden? Maybe on amazon or thrift stores but Idk
I'm sorry to say the series was never released on home video, not even in the UK. All we've got are home VHS recordings made at the time. Mad, isn't it?

@@mgrace386 Well knock me down with a feather - I never even questioned that, but close your eyes and it almost certainly is Kelly, isn't it? I suppose she and Spencer are dancing in the next scene, which is why they needed different Kids to mime in front of the microphones. Mind blown.
