For me, Knxwledge has some of the best drums out there. The swing and texture he gets feel so natural, and there’s a real uniqueness to the way his drums cut through without ever feeling forced.
Cookin’Soul’s drums and production is not meant for this realm. Every one of his songs has so much character & life to them. The vibes he creates are immaculate 🔥
Just in time. Ive been trying to get my drums to smack lately. I sample a lot from vinyl. I learned that the initial stages are so important. From the needle quality, getting a decent signal going in... tape also helps too. I was lucky enough to be given a free 80s Tascam and that thing definitely helps.
Absolutely! Nailing those initial stages makes all the difference. And an 80s Tascam? Pure gold. That vintage warmth and gritty character can't be replicated!
This video has a lot great ideas you should have in your beat tool box for sure. I think one thing I hear seldom mentioned ito processing is stereo imaging. I spent the past year trying to get my drums to hit like Dilla's. If you use plugins like Goodhertz Midside Matrix and push it by 1-2dB in the mid, then use Izotope Impact & Decapitator on the Snare and Kick. They easily jump out the mix and punch through more without taking away from the sample. Lastly, Bob Powers when he mixed Dilla beats would have that crazy low end. You can't go wrong with the Dbx 160 + Pultec parallel trick.
Ohhh, great tip. I actually bought the Goodhertz plugins recently, so definitely gonna give that a go! Yeah Bob Powers did all the Tribe stuff as well, which I still think is some of the best mixed stuff out there!
I listened to their forst three albums at work the other day and I had all types of reset buttons pressed i my mind. ATCQ with or without Bob Powers mixes are bonkers !@@eltrainmusic
What are the rules for recording sound off of RUclips, using some kind of an audio capture extension on chrome, be it the one you used in this video or another? How do you make sure you are recording the best quality sound for purposes of processing on your DAW? Is it purely the source material, or is there stuff you can do with the settings of the capture extension? Back in the day songs on YT would describe the bitrate in the annotations (e.g. 320k), you rarely see that nowadays.
Who’s your favourite producer when it comes to drums? Let me know below!
Kanye Pharrell monte booker
Pete Rock, Bink, Marco Polo, and Just Blaze.
Q-Tip
Dilla
@@DUANE2TUFF Honestly Monte Booker's drums are absolutely crazy, I have know idea how he even does it!

@@eltrainmusic Yes, you can't go wrong with Goodhertz. That was a great purchase. For sure, this reminds me to honestly reference their work more.

Great video!
Glad you like it, hope it was helpful!
Nice One. I like the variety of styles you used to showcase the different techniques.
The WebSampler from WXAudio is also great for web recording
Yeah, thought it was a good idea to showcase a few different styles! Oh nice, will definitely check that out!
Just Blaze
Just Blaze drums in the 00's were absolutely unmatched!
