    Sir in case of hypothetical situation , if the verb of principal claue is in the present indefinite , verb after as if may be either past indefinite or past perfect .My question is when it would be past indefinite and when it would be past perfect ? Please answer sir.

    I think the correct sentence would be ,You look as though you did not take food for years. Using past subjunctive mood.

    Respected sir, being undisputedly the greatest grammarian of all time, you are earnestly entreated with folded hands to enlighten me a bit as to which of the following sentences would be the most appropriate grammatically -Question --They looked like lost children (Make it a Complex sentence) .My probable answers are -(A)They looked like they were lost children (B)They looked as if they were lost children (C)They looked as if they had been lost children.

    Sir ❤, you told that past perfect is not used to show unreal or hypothetical situations ,but in the sentence- tum aise dikhte ho jaise tumne salon se kuch jhaya nahi ho - you used had here
    But this sentence was hypothetical...
    So i got confused sir...please help me.

      Here, you can't use the past perfect tense.
      You should use 'were' in place of 'had been'.
      He felt as if he were..........

      Some basic knowledge of grammar and sentence framing is compulsory apart from regular practice in order to speak English , but if we don't have proper knowledge of grammar, we'll be committing mistakes every now and then.

    Sir i got confused again, please tell me how to translate - ऐसा लगता था जैसे तुम एक राजकुमार हो। (Hypothetical)
    ???
    I think - It looked as if you were a prince.
    Then sir, if the situation is real , or we are not sure about the situation, and we have to say -
    ऐसा लगता था जैसे वे लोग चोर थे।(real)
    - इसमें भी were आएगा
    तो कैसे समझेंगे की सिचुएशन real है या hypothetical

      He walked as if he were rich.( hypothetical/imaginary/definitely unreal/past subjunctive mood. The speaker is sure he was not rich, he was just pretending to be rich)
      Whereas
      He walked as if he had been rich.( The speaker is not sure he was rich or not. He might have been rich and might not have been rich)
      Please watch this video again, and listen to me very carefully right from the beginning to the end.
      I've explained every concept clearly.

    Sir it's is unreal and you told with unreal we don't use "past perfect" but here we used past perfect " had not taken".
    A bit confusion, help me out in this.
