Some basic knowledge of grammar and sentence framing is compulsory apart from regular practice in order to speak English , but if we don't have proper knowledge of grammar, we'll be committing mistakes every now and then.

I think the correct sentence would be ,You look as though you did not take food for years. Using past subjunctive mood.
