- Praised for her vocal beauty, seamless technique, and abundant musicality, Nadine Sierra is one of the starriest young talents of today and has felt she was “made for opera” ever since she was a child. In her new album, Nadine Sierra focuses on three major soprano roles in opera: Donizetti's Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Verdi's Violetta (La traviata) and Gounod's Juliette (Roméo et Juliette). All very different characters, Nadine is telling their stories and gives it relevance today. She dedicates her album to great women in opera and reflects the hardship, sacrifice, perseverance, patience and pure devotion that it takes to be ‘made for opera.’

Not enough credit here is given to Sophia Muñoz who plays so sensitively and marvelously here. One of the best pianists I've heard collaborating on this aria for sure...
Where’s the orchestra?? If the overrated Ms. Sierra is such a great and important artist, why record with a pianist?? Is DGG too cheap to hire an orchestra?? Embarrassing stuff representative of the mediocrity accepted as today’s gold standard. So depressing . Opera is dead.
@@cadaverdog1424 her actual record that she is promoting here is with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale Della Rai - this is just part of a laid back, lounge concert series that DG has created. Opera definitely isn’t dead - maybe it’s just changed from the records you grew up with. Open your mind and your heart and you’ll see it’s thriving, and is more accessible and diverse than it ever has been.

I guess people might be new to this series but the whole point is world-renowned artists performing in a salon, more casual setting. Pianist Danil Trifonov is literally in a white tee, skull cap and jeans for his performance in the same series. The whole point is to eliminate the pretense and solemnity that comes with classical performances and present serious artists in a lively, natural setting.
I suppose, but that is part of the operatic experience. I cannot get passed her attire. It’s a no for me. What’s next flip flops, pijamas? Awful!

I am just posting this comment as a reminder that this is the wrong video to criticize attire b/c this is not that kind of venue/performance. It's meant to be more casual and lounge-like, hence the name "Yellow Lounge."

That last note had the walls trembling as her voice vibrated violently, each rapid fire back to back brutal blows of vocal waves crashes all about, my ears throbbed for weeks

Angel Blue is singing La traviata at Houston Grand Opera later this year...she is a fantastic soprano...I saw her Liù in Turandot at San Diego Opera in March 2018 and she was the best singer in the cast

I agree 100%. Also there is always comments such as "Maria Callas sings it better" that I don't understand. Why can't you love 2, 5, 1000 performances of the same pice? Why the urge to compare (negatively)?

If you guys ever visited Montreal metro, you would see some surprising instances of famous musicians playing, masked talents, or prodigies. The most famous, i believe, is Mark Landry, a homeless man with World class talent in violin. There was even an incident where Mark Landry's violin was stolen, entire Montreal police was mobilized to find the culprit. In any case, come visit this beautiful city, it will be worth your time
