nah I like WHAP better, since we can understand how different things in different countries impacted each other and I really loved my teacher too so overall I would take whap over apush 10/10
Is there a reason that the review videos for the whole unit ended in unit 5? I found those super helpful since I'm sorta cramming the course, but I can't find them. Am I just being stupid?
hey i like the videos but how come you have full unit reviews for all units 1-4 of apush but on unit 5 and on its just the small videos instead of one with all the info. I like the one video and would love to see one for each unit
I'd like to make a correction. The general who signed the treaty was the same man who was the leader of the Mexican government (Santa Anna). The Mexican Congress refused to recognize it because Santa Anna signed it as a prisoner of war against his will, and also violated Mexican law.
I think we often confuse manifest destiny as an idea that Americans wanted to take land from the indigenous people as opposed to wanting spread their claims to the continent over and above other competing European powers. Consider that in the wake of warring European nations the indigenous tribes people were not seen as a sovereign or organized nations, they were not real competitors for the territory. While it is tragic that Americans did not respect them more and treat them better… their lands were going to be inhabited by more powerful nations. One could well imagine that had Europeans never set foot in the America’s that the Americas would have then been conquered by great native empires or later by asian expansion and imperialism. All of history is the story of advancing technology and the spread of those who use it.
And how abstract ideas such as religion and art play a role in the development, interactions, and conflicts between different groups of people over time.
@@aidanforman5950i feel like honestly those abstract ideas are a result of conflicts between people, like conflicts between different economic interests. religion, art, culture, it’s not the cause of these conflicts, but conflicting economic interests cause those things to be the way that they are. like the religion or culture we have is a way to maintain these conflicts and ensure that one dominant group of people stay in power- like a lot of the religious, artistic, and cultural movements in us history (and all history) to me seem to be a result of that
@elizabethkurth2069 No no. Religion is definitely the cause of many conflicts. Just look at the split in the Mulsim Caliphate, the Spanish Inquisition, the battles between different Christain groups all because their interpretations of the Bible were slightly different. I will say that monotheistic religions definitely cause way more conflicts than polytheism religions, but still.
@@aidanforman5950 if you examine these conflicts further, you may often find economic reasons behind them. I don’t know much about the Muslim Caliphate, but the Spanish Inquisition cannot be reduced to “being caused by religion.” A large part of the issue was the desire of the monarchy to expand influence economically and benefit their class interests, it was not entirely a religious issue- nothing really is entirely caused by religion, religion is often a cover or a justification for exploitation or conquest. You could also think about why such a religion, such a rigid, structured, hierarchal religion in which huge amounts of profits are garnered really exists- is that a natural human phenomenon, or is there a reason that people would create this type of religion beyond just spirituality? Namely, profit and economic interests. Look at televangelists, look at the Catholic Church, look at the way the British used Christianity as an excuse to create colonies or expand their rule- organized religion is often a result of economic organization, economic relations, and the interest of those in power to maintain their power through appealing to morality. Another thing is that organized religions as they exist today are often kept relevant because of the lack of adequate social services and access to basic necessities- the churches/ religious organizations provide this through charity because of the poor economic organization and poor economic status of many individuals, allowing the religion to maintain its power.
