⊙ Revised and corrected version of my short story dedicated to Phil. ● THE WHITE PHOENIX - " The king was ambushed by the soldiers of the Evil one. Tight in a circle, back to back with his five knights of the royal guard, resisted strenually and heroically, reaping enemies upon enemies, but it was not long before death. The snow was tinged with the red of spilled blood. " look up there, captain ! ", said an officer to the squadron commander. Everyone raised their eyes to the sky : a splendid being dressed in white hovered above them, pointing North. The captain had an immediate peception : " our king is in danger ! ", shouted addressing his squadron. " hurry up. galloping north ! ". The female figure preceded them, in flight, guiding the squadron towards the combat zone. The king was now alone in the midst of the bodies of his warriors, completely sorrounded. The charge of the squadron was overwhelming : the enemy retreated in disorder. But a soldier fired a crossbow shot at the sovereign. It was a moment : the woman interposed herself between the king and the dart, which hit her in the chest. She fell to the ground without a moan. The king ran towards her and knelt down, supporting her head. She was a wonderful being : long hair like golden threads, light blue eyes like a spring morning. A trickle of blood came out of the vermilion-colored mouth posed in a sweet and painful smile at the same time. " who are you ? ", asked the king, " a sorceress ? An enchantress ? An Angel ? Why did you do this for me ‽ ".because i had to...and...i wanted to... ", replied the woman smiling and staring into his eyes softly as she gasped in pain. " I'VE NEVER BEEN KISSED...PLEASE...DO YOU WANT TO...? ". The king said nothing, smiled and gently kissed that splendid being, whose body suddenly shattered in myriads of splinters of ice that slowly began to melt.
