Odd Eye is like heroin to me. I could hear it 50 times a day and I would not even begin to get tired of it. (I'm old rocker, Maiden, Kings X, Voivod, Queensryche, Yes.) The Scream, Boca, Odd Eye era is legendary.
Odd Eye is part 3 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. People can get lost in the world of the Internet and social media and their online personas can take over their life. Dreamcatcher want us to use our odd eye to see through the lies (on Facebook and others) and don't be fooled by the "lies masked in sweetness". I can only recommend to keep reacting to them, they are always interesting and entertaining! And the song is a banger!
They aren't new, they have been there since 2017 , They are actually from a small company and their music is rock inspired and it's not sth Koreans like to listen to (not the usual kpop) , ironically it's the same reason it go them a huge international fan base and what made them keep going as a grp in this competitive industry

They've been around for 6 years but they are from a smaller company than groups like Blackpink and Stray Kids which usually come with built in audiences. They also have that rock influence which makes them somewhat of a black sheep in their home country. They have a pretty large international fanbase though and is one of the reasons they've managed to be as successful as they have is due to that. Dreamcatcher usually has a lot of social commentary in their music and the Dystopia Trilogy addresses bullying, hate speech, online bullying, losing yourself to the online world and the realization that social media is nothing but a sweet lie covering up darker truths. The whole trilogy they are looking for a Utopia, where the hate speech and bullying doesn't exist, and in the end, they realize that the utopia they were looking for doesn't exist. dreamcatcher \:D/ it's not that they changed their sound, it's more that their sound is never constant. they go into every genre and from all time periods, but almost never revisit any twice. you said different a number of times throughout their songs and for good reason. if you listen to enough kpop, especially the more recent stuff, it's all cookie cutter cut and paste from yesterday's hit. kpop gets away with it because the audience is mostly teens and the big companies promote the hell out of groups. groups like blackpink were born successful because of massive promotions that got them millions of followers even before they put out a single song. dreamcatcher on the other hand started out at rock bottom. dreamcatcher was born from failure. 5 of the members were part of minx which did more stereotypical girl group songs/concepts. but being from a tiny company, they just couldn't compete with the big labels and in effect disbanded. unlike big kpop companies that treat groups like assets that get toss if unsuccessful, the ceo of dreamcatcher's company saw that the girls could pull off any genre so they decided to rebrand as dreamcatcher. no one knows exactly went on at those meetings, but the ceo is a big rock fan and several of the members are into rock/metal so they rolled the dice by going with music that they wanted to make, but music that was vastly unpopular in their native country. so for years dreamcatcher went under the radar in korea but built a respectable international fan base that made enough headlines in korea for korean media to eventually ask who is this dreamcatcher. last friday the 13th was their 6th anniversary as dreamcatcher and they released a fan song 'reason' as a gift to their fans. check it out since you kind of get a montage of what they are about.

To clarify, not every k-pop band has that many followers. Especially them which aren't in the mainstream 'pop' category. I think dreamcatcher's music is like a double edged sword. You either like it or are left feeling confused out of it. But I assure you there will be atleast one song out there in their discography that will suit your taste. They are genre queens👑

my thoughts exactly when i heard this back in 2021. listening first time, first verse n prechorus sound common in kpop. but then the chorus came in, i fell in love right away. no one does it like DC. they are genre blender, hence we call it Dreamcatcher genre. thanks for reacting to these girls. fyi, i dont know where you are but they are coming to the US for their tour.
like the instrumental version more but have to admit the live during their tour sounded actually really good... guess it's cuz the guitar riffs during the chorus hits much harder than the recording
I think it was funny when you said rock/metal fans may not like this bc it is poppy, bc the majority of the fandom is into rock/metal, and metalheads and hardrock fans LOVE dreamcatcher, and they’re always their fav kpop group bc of the metal/rock elements they add to their sound ahah. They were the 1st Kpop group invited to the Primavera Festival which is a rock festival! Dreamcatcher are nicknamed genre-benders because they mix several genres into 1 song, and that may be what throws you off, because you can’t really pin-point their genre (well, they don’t have one, they just mix all of them, like Boca had rock elements, and raggaeton all mixed into an EDM song). Their style is strange, which is why they’re also called the Black Sheep of S.Korea, because Korean Kpop enthusiasts are not too into rock and this is too rock for them. They’re getting big on the international stage.

The pre-chorus is the best use of four on the floor I've ever heard, everyone gets real excited during that part. Disco was worth it.
