After playing Schala's theme, Kara can finally rest and watch the sun rise on a grateful universe.
can't do that till the whole soundtrack is out! :D
Agreed.
"The black wind howls...one among you will shortly perish."
...
Going into Chrono Trigger, I never could have imagined that a song that plays for so little time could have such an effect on me. It's not surprising that I love all the music from Zeal Kingdom. Such an incredible part of an incredible game.
Yeah, Zeal Kingdom had to be one of my favorite areas in Chrono Trigger. I could sit and listen to the music for hours for both the main hub and Schala's theme. It's sad that Schala had such a small part, even though she had a big impact on the story at large.
Such a contrast between mother and daughter, Zeal and Schala. One wonders if they would ever have done a side story on how Zeal got so corrupted in the first place; I suspect Lavos’s influence would have merely amplified pre-existing trauma.
@@sunnywhite196 Agreed! Corridors of Time and Schala's theme are my two favorite pieces in the whole score, which is saying a lot, because the rest of the score is incredible. Schala's theme definitely gives me the feels big time, as does Schala's story. And it is so touching how Schala is the only person in the whole universe that Magus/Janus really cares about, much more than himself. If you consider the rest of Schala's story that isn't covered in Chrono Trigger, but is touched on in Chrono Cross, and especially Crimson Echoes (OK, granted CE isn't official canon, but it is very well done, and absolutely logically consistent with the rest of her story,) Schala's story (and Magus' as well) is just so beautifully tragic. The melancholy feel of Shala's theme is so utterly fitting for her tragic story arc. Absolutely beautiful.
@@michaelbeach1087 I wish they would have done a side story into that myself. Queen Zeal seemed like she was a loving, if strict mother before encountering Lavos and the construction of the Mammon Machine, and falling under Lavos's influence just drove her power mad, if Schala's comments to Janus (Magus) before going to the Ocean Palace were anything to go by. I would've loved to see how everything fell apart and why.
@@kromanaut I still get goosebumps listening to Schala's theme to this day. Same with "At the Bottom of the Night". Such beautiful music.
I'm at a loss for words. Simply perfect.
In the end, we don't see much of Schala in the game, but I think she made a huge impression on a lot of players.
I was sad when she got consumed by Lavos and understood Magus's hate for Lavos and his aloofness with the rest of the group at the point he may or may not join. It's too bad that Magus never gets to see Schala again.
@@sunnywhite196
that one's up to her
@@yourknightmanny Honestly.....
*Spoilers below! Don't read if you haven't already played Chrono Cross!*
I did not get very far into Chrono Cross, so I have no idea if Magus regained his memories and found Kid after the DS version, or if they left it hanging in the air, or what happened to him. I only know about Schala reincarnating into Kid because of memes involving her, before the PS1 remake of Chrono Trigger added in the anime cutscene credits where you see the baby Kid with Lucca and Schala's amulet around Kid's neck.
@@sunnywhite196
as usual, the developers left more than one ending.
In the radical dreamers version, they left Magus with his memories and he took the name of 'Magil' - and in the Cross version of 'Guile'.
If games didn't have deadlines because of money or whatever fucking matters came into play - we'd surely see a full version of Magus, for sure.
@@yourknightmanny I wish Squaresoft hadn't squashed the Radical Dreamers game, tbh. I would've loved to have seen how that played out. Like having Shadow from Final Fantasy 6 around again. I probably wouldn't have been able to play it because my computer at the time was crap, and now I only have my cellphone, but seeing a Let's Play on it would've been awesome.
My parents wouldn't buy a PlayStation, only a SNES. Schala was my Aerith.
I always judge how good a Schala cover is by if it brings tears to my eyes. You did a great job.
♥️♥️♥️
"So, you intend to take on Lavos with that battered body of yours." As a first time player, I was shocked by what happened after these words.
Oh my... this song is POWERFUL!! We can feel all the pain and suffering that Schala is going through.
Awesome Schala's Theme ~ Chrono Trigger ~ Piano and Pipe Organ Video.
Kara gets the melancholy of this piece down pat. Also, the organ here is just PERFECT, with those drawn out notes
Yeah the piano can't do those justice like the organ can!
@@KaraComparetto Mind you, your piano can do drawn out notes (which I absolutely love, when you let the note fade away, I don't have formal musical training, I don't know the right term, sorry). It's obviously not like the organ, but I've heard you coax it to be ALMOST as good. Still, the instrument that doesn't get enough attention is your harpsichord. I've been really impressed with it, how it brings string-like sound with piano-like precision.
Still, I can't wait for you to have your organ set up for Saturday streams (as they're the only ones that I can be part of, as time zones suck)
Yeah I know, if the soundtrack had begged for it I would’ve included the harpsichord more! Maybe in future recordings :)
Anyone else got them there spine tinglies from listening? 🤠
Beautifully done as usual Kara :)
Those 8 notes (a single measure) on the piano that are repeated for the entirity of the piece do something so simple, yet so complex at the same time:
Shifting up and down, for eternity, they are like a wave, an ebb and flow - of time, of emotion, of mankind's very struggle to exist.
They tell of war and peace, happiness and sadness, progress and stagnation, chaos and tranquility.
They foretell the challenges to come, and promise respite thereafter - again... and again... and again...
The gradual inclusion and remotion of the other instruments - as well as the shifting dynamics - further serves to transform this simple melody into the very vortex of time itself.
Well done, Kara (and Mitsuda-san), and thank you! 😍😢😍
P.S. 8 notes repeating: 8️⃣ = ♾
Thank you so much Jason :)
Just right! You make a great case for more pipe organ on youtube in general, too. I accidentally opened this on two windows (I think about 22 seconds apart?) for a surprisingly appropriate echoing effect. Thanks for keeping these coming, but no need to push the release schedule. I hope summer's going well for you so far.
ha, interesting! I bet that sounded wild! Thank you Nathan !
Beautiful arrangement! I was definitely humming along with a smile on my face!
I love the melancholy this song evokes, while still feeling hopeful.
Incredible composition, and masterful execution!
Hello Kara there's an accordion store/showroom in Philadelphia. It's shop name is called 'Liberty Bellows'. If you want get an American brand accordion there will be 'Excelsior' & 'Victoria'. The standard size of the piano accordion will have 41 keys(F3-A6) on the right hand side piano keyboard & 120 Bass on the left hand side. But better choose a size that fit you. It because the standard size accordion is bulky and big is not better for small and short person. Playing the accordion also need to know how to phrasing with controlling the bellow to make it breath. Thank You!
sounds awesome!!
Piano and pipe organ make for a beautiful rendition. Very nice! If the Cathedral in an alternate Guardia were dedicated to an ancient saintly woman (Schala), then this tune would be playing.
Love the outfits and the Perlers so much! Fantastic job on the music as well. 10 out of 10!
eeeek thank you! I just read this, for the first time! made me smile
Makes me feel like a Kid again.
😎
Badum TSSH! 🥁
I can almost feel my pendant resonating :P awesome as always, Kara!
Chrono Trigger is somewhere in my game backlog to play someday. This theme is pretty much THE reason why the part I'm looking forward to playing through the most is whatever part has Schala in it. This is a beautiful rendition of the mournful, mysterious piece that is my favourite track off of the Chrono Trigger OST.
Thank you Yuzuki!!❤
This would be the song I would say, "Play it again. If she can take it, I can." I always tear up. Thank you for posting this.
So beautiful! ❤❤❤ This is one of my favorites in Chrono Trigger.
Chrono Trigger is trending on Twitter a while ago, I hope that the Chrono Trigger remake is true 🙏🤞😭
That would be wild haha
I like how it sounds so sober yet powerful song.
WE LOVE YOU IN ARGENTINA KARA!!!!!!! Don't forget that!!!
I won't, thank you soooo much
The best CT song covered perfectly!
This is one of my favorite tracks in the whole game, this and To Far Away Times
I can't wait to show you my version of that one! It will only be in the full soundtrack video that I'll release at the end, so stay tuned for that!
That looks like quite the right hand exercise!
you played this so understated and softly, it works perfectly. another great one in the catalog
Beautiful rendition! Absolutely love this! (I may be biased. 😁 )
L O V E I T ♥
Amazing 🤧
I enjoy how much this rendition of Schala theme is reminiscent of the title pendulum swing + Zeal Palace.
Starts and ends with the Zeal Princess.
thank you Garry!
I was waiting for this one, amazing performace!
Y'know, asides from the lovely playing and the musical aspect. I gotta give props to the mix and mastering of this. Can kinda feel it like an in-person performance, dunno why.
Good to see my favourite game in the entire universe is still loved
me toooooo
Simply beautiful! People have such amazing gifts and talents! Thank you for posting this!
Thank you for listening!!
This is beautiful! This song is so sad and fits the character so well.
Thank you ❤️ you saw the whole set right? :) ruclips.net/video/0fGq2BfstZs/видео.htmlsi=MPMxljIComs_YjUX
This makes me feel like the organ should more often get the melody in the higher ranges...almost sounds like an oboe and perfect for the part. And you crushed the beautiful background that could have only been on piano!
Thanks so much Kara...hope you get to play your fave non-gamer pieces for a bit too. :)
Thank you Jay! I'd say a significant portion of the arrangements are organ melodies, because I agree, the organ can imitate so many orchestral sounds that the piano can't!
@@KaraComparetto, yeah I guess I never thought how different it could sound when it wasn't pounding out church music or playing some haunting fugue. :)
Wow.
Soothing vibes for the soul!
so so nice T_T it's rare and special when a cover actually makes me want to add the percussion myself as I listen. Plenty of others get me singing or whatever, but not that.
Oooo I love that!!
the beginning always reminds me of "The Wind is Calling, Shevat of the Azure Sky" from Xenogears ost
oh yes, very similar!
Just so incredibly evocative. Thanks Kara!
So many memories ❤ thank you, you're so talented 👏🏻 👏🏻
Yay?
This theme always gives me goosebumps... thank you
Makes me want to get bongos to play along lol. Another one of my favorites from the soundtrack ❤
One of my favorite of all time, thank you for playing this!!!
kara u put this beast to bed every night thank u
I'm so amazed by these arrangements, they make these songs sound like they were made specifically for the organ, harpsichord and piano
Yes I did my best to stay true to the original, that was so important to me. I wanted to bring people right back to their childhood
Simple, precise, expressive. I've heard so many different variations on this song, from those that layer in numerous additional sounds to those that, like your version, crisply honor the original. All offer a meaningful flavor to Schala and her kingdom's mystical yet tragic trajectory. However, those that allow the original's composition to predominate have a special power. They feel rooted, integrally linked to the composer's intent. This is such a piece, exquisitely executed and perfectly aligned with the original's intent, in my mind. May you find a place in the (hopefully inevitable) remake of Chrono Trigger someday. :)
I love how you described this, it makes me want to share your comment! I purposely arranged these themes by staying as close to the original as possible, adding nothing to it but my performance on the instruments. I don't think they need any more than that, they're incredible just the way you are! So glad you noticed this
@@KaraComparetto Aww, thanks! And you're welcome! I very much agree. It is hard to beat the original vision. Thank you for furthering the reach and power of this game's masterful soundtrack. :)
Thanks for making my week, with this fine piece, one of my favorites! Great performance as always!
Nothing short of amazing to feel those emotions of melancholy and sadness and convey them in such a beautiful and inspiring way.
And tomorrow is what brings hope back.
Your Lucca costume is my favorite.
That's her name. You made that?
Wow.
Nailed it again! Can't wait for your next release!
This is another of my favourite tracks and you just slayed it. ❤
I literally wept. So good.
Such a great performance! One of my favoutes from Chrono Trigger
one of my favorites.
the organ in this is pretty powerful... almost too powerful in some places
I tried to stay true to the original and back off on the organ bass, which could be much much more powerful than what you hear, but not true to the original piece. So it's pretty mild compared to what it could be! haha :) thank you!!
Ohh god this is so good to hear!! ❤❤❤❤❤☺☺☺🎹🎵🎶🎶
Ooooooooo can’t wait!
Sublime. That was perfect. Thanks Kara
Just when I thought there was no way you could top last week's "Zeal Palace" ... you did. Wow. Can't stop listening to this.
@@pauljefferies3730 Just wait till you get to hear the whole soundtrack at once! there's something so incredibly powerful about hearing them one after the other, and I'm so excited to share that on RUclips soon :)
Absolutely stunning. The memories flooding in. ❤
Lo espere tanto... super hermoso.. es lo mejor..
Perfect! 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲👏👏👏👏👏👏
The one I've been waiting for.
So pretty and so sad, but hinting at happier times.
Suscrito, simplemente wow
❤😢❤😢❤
Haven’t even heard it and liked it
yesss thank you so much for this
Wonderful as always! 👍 😂
Gonna be stuck in my head for another week.
Excellent performances.
EXQUISITE. 💐❤️✨
Perfect, thank you
The melancholy music, sadness and song, the combination of costume and composition, the memories. I've loved each release, but this one just hits different. My heart is like a sponge of emotion and you've squeezed everything out to the surface. I wasn't ready to feel this!
Wow thank you so much :)
lovely song
This will always be my favourite CT song. You can just feel the emotion in the music.
What a great way to return home after a long day at work. Music to my ears. Literally. LOL It's such a beautiful piece
Very beautiful melancholic cover Kara, I like it a lot
such beauty :)
Beautiful ❤️
Best!
thank you
😊👍
There's just something magical about the song I've never been able to put my finger on. Wonderful playing again Kara! I particularly liked what you did with the lower register the piano. Mixed with the Organ, it brought a certain color to the song that I have never heard before. Thank you!
Good job
Schala is the older sister of Magus also known as Janus. I wish I had an older sister. I always wanted one. My sister-in-law is like an older sister to me
Kara, please, make a 10 hour version of this 🙏
Maybe in the future I'll make some extended versions of these pieces!
Good arrangement. Does justice to the tune.
YESSSSS :)))
Oh wow, this is going on repeat, I could listen to this for hours.
yesss!
Wonderful as always, Kara!❤ I missed the livestream by just a hair, making it at the very end. 😅 But I enjoyed listening to this on the repeat. Definitely going into my favorites list!
I wish RUclips wasn't so sluggish on premiere announcements hahah!
@@KaraComparetto I was away from my phone at the time, so it might not have been RUclips's fault this time. Still I enjoyed what I heard.
Best CT girl ❤
What's this video have to do with Ayla? Ayla didn't make it in :(
@@ninjafish8629 haha!
@@ninjafish8629 But Lucca and Marle did. 😁 ...though I loved Ayla, too. Honestly, the entire cast of Chrono Trigger is probably my favorite RPG ensemble until Final Fantasy 7 hit the scene. Not a bad character in the bunch. Even had likeable villains in Ozzie, Slash, and Flea, and I usually don't like villain characters. The only one I thought was annoying in the extreme was Tata because of the long side quest to chase him down for the Hero's Medal.
it sounds magical :). best I've heard so far, though I'd prefer a giant brass church organ
No way not for Schala!! 😁
💆♂️
Yet another beautiful rendition Kara, nicely done. Schala's theme is probably my "other most favorite" song from Trigger's score (Corridors of Time being the other.) It definitely gives me the feels. The melancholy mood of her theme is so fitting, given Schala's (and her brother's) tragic story arc. To really appreciate the tragic beauty of her story, one must play Crimson Echoes (not canon, but still...) and finish with Chrono Cross (definitely canon. Despite some misguided claims that it is not a sequel to Trigger, it most certainly is.) Kara, have you played Chrono Cross? If so, what do you think of Cross' score?
You can see for yourself how much I loved Chrono Cross! ruclips.net/video/h8ZriJ8FTp8/видео.html not nearly close to how much I love the Chrono Trigger game and soundtrack but it's soooo up there on the list of Mitsuda's best!
@@KaraComparetto Oh that's right, somehow I totally forgot! (It was a long day yesterday and my brain wasn't firing on all cylinders when I posted my comment.) I love your Chrono Cross stuff too! But you are right, nothing is quite like Chrono Trigger.
Sorry, fell asleep during break. Little late, but I made it!
Words cannot express how beautiful this is.
By the way, have you listened to Yasunori Mitsuda’s remaster of Schala’s Theme?
No I haven’t! Would love to
😖👌ああああ。綺麗だぞ。
Ah shit this is the big one.
