    This is a song I composed back in 2012 but my production and mixing skills weren't up to a level where I was happy to call it "finished". Initially I had the song done with programmed midi bass and drums, but when I moved to Japan in 2013 I formed a band and performed this song many times with them...and hearing a good bassist and good drummer interpret what I composed really opened my eyes to how much better my songs could sound instead of just settling for programmed midi drums/bass. For this recording I tried to find someone who could really deliver the slap bass groove I was looking for, that's when I found Tyler Seawood through Fiverr, an absolutely killer bassist and I've worked with him on my previous song that I released a few months ago here: ruclips.net/video/kXcBOCaU1Iw/видео.html
    For the drummer, it was tough, it was surprisingly difficult to find ANYONE who could nail the triplet feel swing rhythm of this song. EVERY drummer I found played the hi hats straight which completely kills the groove. When I told them that, they couldn't hear it! I found Evlytin on Fiverr and he completely nailed the rhythm and I didn't even use ANY quantization on his drums, I just slotted them right in there.
    Layer wise the song is pretty straight forward until the B section of the 2nd chorus where you'll hear a ton of things start coming in, brass, high gain guitars, vocal harmonies, chimes. It was challenging to mix all of these elements so that the song didn't just become a muddied mess.
    Singing wise this is probably my toughest song to sing live. It has a ton of A#4's in it that are not only high, but they need to be sung LOUD and STRONG with a lot of chestiness in order to sound the way I like them to sound. When I first started singing I couldn't get anywhere near these kinds of notes...my highest note was F4 or F#4. It took a lot of training for me to not only just HIT high notes but be able to actually sing them in full songs consistently live.
    Enjoy!
    I know I disappeared off RUclips and stopped posting singing lesson videos...I will be coming back with that sort of thing this year sometime. I still teach singing and never stopped, and I've only gotten better at both teaching and singing. You can work with me here: www.philmoufarrege.com/

      Awesome song! Must feel like a great accomplishment giving a song from 2012 life. Dam you have such an awesome voice! And that bass player is freaking awesome. (my husband is a bass player, so Ive come to really appreciate the bass). Cant wait to start my lessons with you! Will be signing up in a couple days!

      @@leatieri8461 Thank you! This is one of several songs I made around 2008-2012 that I am re-recording so I can get them all finished and move on with new material. This one here: ruclips.net/video/kXcBOCaU1Iw/видео.html I composed in 2008 but couldn't sing ANY of it at that time.
      I'm also a big fan of hte bass and most of my songs are heavily bass driven. I grew up on a lot of RnB and funk and the bass guitar is a main focus in that music.
      Looking forward to helping you with your voice!

      @@philmoufarrege I took a listen to the other song. It’s really awesome! I, myself, have always listened to folk like Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell, but I love all kinds of music, rock, blues, jazz, some country (old stuff. More country folk rock I guess like Gram Parsons). I have always appreciated the bass in bands like Steely Dan and the Doobies and of course Stevie wonder (love him!!!) but it wasn’t until I met my husband when I really started to appreciate the bass (he also loves funk). I’m always focused in the bass in music now. We saw Marcus Miller a few years ago and that was pretty amazing. I myself just started getting into Stanley Clarke. Yeah, music is pretty great! Thanks for sharing yours!

    Thanks Phil for helping me straighten out my on sets and larynx control so many months ago. Now not only can I feel the difference, all of my family and friends say my range has got so much better. Lol, not sure about that, but I will maintain my silence on what is actually behind the improved vocals. Thanks man, you are heroic in my opinion! 👊

    This is next level songwriting, you definately have a vision👍 btw l've been doing the exercise that you sent me through email for months (singing vowels with mouth open vertically in a plank lol) and just recently l had a mini breakthrough. What l realized is that l was doing it wrong at first because l practiced on notes that were too high not realizing that l had serious gaps in my lower notes (A3 to D4). As soon as l focused on those base notes, everything started to feel stronger, smoother and more connected. Just wanted say thanks man!

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! Great to hear things are clicking! Yes the plank exercise is not meant to be taken high in the vocal range, because the spine needs to be a bit more mobile when you start going higher (needs to arch slightly), so the plank exercise is more to help develop the support and body connection middle range and lower.

    Sir I have a question, do you consider using your abs to control the amount of breath better? Or just your diaphragm

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  3 года назад

      a good way for you to get a feel for it would be to get into a plank position on the floor and just try to breathe normally while in that position and also speak from that position without your throat feeling like it's being strangled. that'll give you a good idea of how the muscles in the torso work when supporting and breathing.

      @@philmoufarrege is there another way 😂 lol, I’m on the floor doing that but I still don’t know, my vocal teacher says not to sing with abs so I’m confused
