It seems like they have adopted the attitude of "we've already done it, so go get the old games if you want that kind of thing". They don't seem to want to get rid of the old games and want to keep them going, even if they don't update them. This means they are ignoring the changes that the gaming world is demanding and forcing their players to settle for old games simply because of the gameplay, rather than remaking them.
Because sims 4 is making record money for the sims franchise and they don’t care about the longevity or enjoyment. They care about sucking all the money out of it as they can.
I think EA is banking on player loyalty. Imo people who've only played sims 4 ever would probably carry on with whatever EA releases and stay loyal anyway.
For me, they saying free to download, not free to play, it's a red flag. It seemed like a very careful choice of words to not say that they'll monitize somethings in the base game.
Download the game for free, but its 1.99 per starting the game, down to 0.99 on "sales" days - which are all the time. Thats the level of greed I expect from them.
I fear that the reason Project Rene/Sims 5 will live alongside Sims 4 is because THEY KNOW a lot of us aren't going to like what's coming in Rene. So they have to keep Sims 4 alive just in case when we eventually see Rene for real and backlash, we'd go back to SIms 4 & continue to buy Packs instead of switching to Paralives & Life by You if Sims 4 becomes a dead game.
Yes, I think they know what most people want from Sims 5 is something in the vein of 2, 3 & 4 but with improved graphics, whereas what they want to deliver is some kind of mobile/desktop hybrid.
Oh really think they will do that in order to continue milking the sims 4, because whatever crap they release people still buy it and will continue to buy it, so no reason to stop development even if the sequel comes out lol
@@augusto7681 it's likely they see a market for an online/multiplayer version, but it's not the same market who currently enjoys single player Sims games. Selling a new experience to new players is different to selling a vastly different experience to existing players.
Honestly, the way they talked about it, I was immediately convinced Project Rene would not be The Sims 5. It is probably some kind of a mobile/desktop hybrid. The question is, do they still plan on doing The Sims 5 at some point in the future or is this Rene thing replacing The Sims games as we know them.
It might be intended to replace Sims FreePlay & Sims Mobile instead, with the ability to play it on the desktop. If it has things like micro-transactions, it sounds closer to those than the desktop Sims we've had with 1, 2, 3 & 4.
Sims 4 is making bank for them, so I think they'll keep milking the view till it's profitable, and comparing it to project Rene earnings, will either make SIMS 5 or give it up completely
I thought the same thing, this livestream basically revealed that project rene is not ts5 in the making. Honestly fine with that, ts4 might be the best they can do right now. Also that doesn't mean they don't have longer term plans to make a proper ts5
"Side by side" is basically a risk mitigation strategy, much like Nintendo DS in relation to Game Boy Advance. If the public embraces Rene, TS4 will be faded out. If they hate Rene, they will use TS4 to fuel its enhancement and perhaps explore true co-existence.
That’s my take as well. They’re justifying taking risks by making things truly different instead of just a rehash by saying “but we’ll keep the old version as well for people who don’t like the changes”
@@JanJan4Infinityit’s because they know they’ve properly angered lifelong sims fans with how they are handling the sims 4. It’s truly insulting to me I have to pay 10 fucking dollars FOR MY SIMS TO DO LAUNDRY. That is absolutely bonkers. Their greed knows no bounds.
I have a strong feeling that Project Rene is like a game where they are gonna test how much monetization they can get away with, for some reason it just feels like they are afraid of going all in with the game and are expecting some sort of backlash. Thats why they are using The Sims 4 as this secure thing that they can go back to incase everything goes wrong for them, i just have a really strong gut feeling that they are hiding something really bad.
I mean, this is EA we're talking about and that is 100% consistent with their business model. I absolutely _despise_ the microtransaction model *within a game the user has already paid to purchase* and which can credit its appeal and growth in user base to how customizable it is/was with user-made content. The Sims 4 stuff packs have always left a sour taste in my mouth for that reason - adding new objects to the game used to be the domain of modders, and I personally liked it that way. Now you buy an entire add-on just to find maybe a couple of in-game objects that you'll actually use. It's total bs.
Man sims 4 already costs like $1200 if you want the full game, surely they can’t monetize it further. “Project Renee will use real world money as a replacement for simoleons”
@@KingKaleb77 they are charging the same amount as an expansion pack for a house (not even that good) in the sims mobile and people not even able to play with it because of a glitch that locks them out. Then the sim gurus private messaged relevant influencers to do damage control "keep the peace and promote positivity" for months. Calling the complaints as toxic negativity. It clearly shows what their trying to do.
I can't even imagine the networking issues. Do we know if families are going to be in the game? Is it going to cost $1.99 to get pregnant? Or will they say Pay $69.99 for simoleans to buy a house? I can smell the fire from here. I only have one expectation for Project Renee, which is being driven by the person who brought us Batuu for you, that it will be worst than Dr. Frankenstein's monster.
😆 seriously lol sims 4 for another 10 years seems like a nightmare to me . I doubt the game can ever be fun even if it lasted another 50 years because of the limitations within the core game mechanics . Wish it were the sims 3 instead :(
@@katehigen7018 Considering how patchy the coding for The Sims 4 is, and how more packs being released has placed strain on that dodgy fundamental coding of the game, I dread to think of what even a few more years of DLC will do. 😬
OMG can't wait to launch project Rene, go into CAS and get a popup like "want to vreate a female sim? buy the woman pack now! only 9.99 to unlock a new gender, a dress, and two hairstyles! If you buy the basic makeup pack in the next 4 hours you will also receive an exclusive lipstick for free!" On another note: you play ffxiv? I love that game, hope we'll see a vid about it from you sometime
I’m calling it! This will be “The Urbz Online”. An MMO Sims game about city living and building Rep (grinding/leveling) where you leave your apartment and 53 sims are standing in the same loading spot/spawn point outside of the one starting low income (initial) starting apartment shouting trades for items and money, ala RuneScape style. You leave for your job and perform some mini game to earn money and “rep points” to buy/rent the next tier of Condo/Apartment. End game? Be the most popular Urb in the town, by constantly grinding away for Rep Points.
Sims online was popular in its early days but then it got a name change to ea land and eventually fizzled out. I left before the rename - but can’t remember the reason as it was my first mmo experience and did enjoy it. Project Rene could be another attempt at it with 20 years of new players it might be worth it with the popularity of sims games in general.
The lady Marsea was interviewing is the same one who thought players didn't want toddlers or babies that weren't objects or _pools_ so idk why they brought her back when she's so bad at her job
Lmao sims players not wanting pools is fucking wild, I didn’t play the sims as a kid but even then I associated it with sims having pools (and removing the pool ladder lmao)
The sims need a leader, a person leading the vision. I don’t think they have a captain. Someone who cares about the product because their name is attached to it.
almost everyone in maxis from sims 1-2-3 days are retired or gone from the company. Rod Humble now is the executive producer of Life By You, a new competitor of the Sims in development from Paradox.
Blame EA. This is what happens when you get blinded by money. The product suffers, it's only a matter of time. Money or quality, you can't have both. There is no easy way out. I'm hoping that Paralives and Live By You put the final nails in the coffin of the Sims. Sims doesn't deserve to be successful with how they have managed that.
Sims 4 will run alongside Project Renee just in case Project Renee turns out to be a flop or worse case another Simcity. The idea of making the Sims a multiplayer format may bite EA in the butt.
Especially since this is not their first attemp, but hey.. I'm kinda curious, but I don't think it will do too great tho. Especially if they make us pay for the majority of the stuff, like furniture. I mean, I think Free to Download simply means. "The game is free, but nothing else really is."
@@G0dspeed101 That's the same thing, I think too. that you will be able to download for free, probably play around with it for a day or two then the pop ups will start. Hey you want to change your character/sim's outfit, pay $5.99 to do so. Want that lovely couch in build/buy pay $5.99. Want to do that interaction pay $2.99. Do you want access to everything pay a monthly fee of $30.99 or yearly fee of $360.00.
And it’s completely unnecessary. The sims should always be single player. We already have a community. If they want to do an online game they should make a new one
The absolute EYE ROLL I just did the second you said “exist side by side”. They’ll go down the games as a service route - and that’ll be that. The end of The Sims. Everything these days is ‘rebooted’ - we can never have a real sequel anymore, so I guarantee it’ll just be called “The Sims”. Take the movie Scream 5 for reference.
Maybe they let us speculate so they can know what we want... when we thought it was The Sims 5, people were against leaving TS4 because of how much money they've spent, so they made the announcement so vague they can change direction if they wanted to. But idk, if paralives and life by you are released, I honestly don't think TS4 will have a chance against them.
The huge emphasis on playing with others is making me feel like there is no other option to play. I don't play sims to play with others. I want a space for me to build and make stories outside of others opinions and influence.
Honestly people dont realize it, (or they do but dont always address it) but the sims 4 might as well already be microtransactional in terms of in game purchases. The paywalls are just outside of the game, but with how the new packs for the sims 4 have been getting smaller and uninspired, i wont be surprised if they implement a free update that starts adding new content behind an ingame paywall so they dont actually have to come up with pack or kit themes anymore its just, "want this specific swatch of this couch? Paywall"
It's been a decade and that games code has crashed onto itself. I think the only reason they haven't done that couch idea yet is because they physically can't.
@@Delete59187 could be this, or it could be that they're weening players into it by making more packs with less stuff. Testing how much simmers will pay for a few new objects (that look eerily similar to object meshes we already have). Idk , if they say they want to continue to add content to sims 4 along with project renee, it just seems like this will be the easiest path for them to take after they figure out how to implement it.
To be honest, I think it's just something they say to keep people buying TS4 content instead of waiting for the next generation of the franchise. They can't hurt their potential sales until Project Renee can be sold as an early access. Other companies do the same, it’s just something they say to keep sales going while they build up the new thing. That is why they were very specific about the "for the foreseeable future” and emphasized that. In corporate speak it could literally mean "until PR surpasses TS4 in earnings" with a new player base eased in their new monetization, only online, DRM-enforced, mod-light, model. Also, the weather thing isn't really confirmed. They gave us "theoretical examples", and said that they "might add" weather. Also, "it's too early for them to draw the lines". They are just trying to keep people focused on The Sims franchise because of LBY's prospects.
If this follows Sims 2, 3 and 4, features we already have (and enjoy) in Sims 4 will be an expansion pack to get in Project Renee. No thanks. I waited to get TS4 until toddlers were available. I'm not even a little excited about MMO Sims, and I am even less excited at the prospect of "did you enjoy weather? The expansion pack will be coming!" This doesn't seem like a purchase I will be interested in. I am also incredibly not interested in "we're going to encourage you to spend money on this game!" either. I think I'll be sticking with Sims 3 & 4. I'd go back to Sims 2 if I still had a copy :(
I have played The Sims since the beginning and was so excited to get to be a beta tester in The Sims Online. It was glorious! lol So much fun playing with others from all over the world (really miss the pizza game!). Then it went live and eventually became a home for griefers and a giant virtual orgy. Imho it would be a nightmare unless it was limited in some way. Maybe just a small group of friends playing together? Excited to see what other life simulators have to offer in the future.
@@ThisEvilBunny tbh knowing the online community they manage to get around censors and limited animations in maaany creative ways, and if sims is gonna continue to support mods those limits might as well not exist at least on pc xD personally am all for online play relegated to smaller groups and allow for offline play, but then again who am i to speak - im expanding my ts4 lib and no way am i gonna buy into more mtx heavy bs
Have you noticed how in the past when it came to Sims many of us actually loved the unknown? It was exciting and we couldn't wait to see what new expansion packs or new game versions they'd make. Now unknown when it comes to Sims usually means another huge disappointment and them trying to push it as far as possible to earn more on less and less work or quality.
I like playing the Sims because its NOT an MMO. I am an antisocial 30-something and don't want to play online. The only time I did was Animal Crossing during lockdown and that's because we were all broken and locked in our homes going mad. I'm not holding my breath for Project Rene, but equally sad the way that 4 has gone.
I'm sad for all the people who chose not to leave their homes. We didn't do anything g different here. Nothing changed for us. It was weird to know people in the same state were all doing g things differently.
@@LauraBeeDannon I'm in the UK, there was a nation wide lockdown. I went out when I could to shop, exercise etc. but I couldn't go to work or play sports or socialise like I usually would. It wasn't a choice!
My daughter is all into the sims now and I will tell you she begs for certain packs. The last two horses and whatever the one was with alpacas had her going crazy. They got me with the plants so just this past two months alone we’ve spent over $100 on expansion packs and stuff packs. They will just keep milking it I think. It’s a beautiful game and people are still really enjoying it. In revenue terms it ain’t broke so why fix it.
Online there are so many sales EA does through the year. I only buy during the end of summer sale and the black friday thru christmas sales. Everything is 20-50% off. You could gift them to her during the holidays. It's hard to wait for ones I really want but with the sales, game packs are like $15-17, expansion packs $27-29.
@@SacramentalASMR yes! We only buy them on sale. Never full price! Maybe every now and then I should say because we did pay full price for cottage and the horse ranch. She was just too excited for those. Otherwise we buy on sale.
i recommend anadius dlc unlocker, it just makes all the dlcs and packs and whatever available for free. it's uh... pirating, though, and i recommend a VPN if your country or internet provider is strict on it
Honestly, just pirate it(if there is safe way to do this in your country) I bought the game and several expansions a long time ago and now I just pirate it and update with a separate tool. EA are greedy and encouraging their desicions by giving them money will serve us no good. And playing without expansions is just sad - base game is simply incomplete.
Why does Project Rene sound like a brand-new online cult experience, with a $2000 admission price? You can have your friend join that does not have it, and we will just charge YOU another $1000!!! Great and very informative video Satch. Yes, my worst fears about The Sims franchise have now been realized. Thank God for the competition.
This just feels like it’s going to be an online chat room full of your “avatar” sims with the life simulation added on like normal. I just don’t know how it’s gonna work
People just need to accept that EA isn't going to create another in-depth life-sim. The fact is that making a game like that is hard. Why do that when there is money to be made with a shallow micro-transaction game for kids.
Sadly, it's the case with most companies these days. Mobile gaming has wrecked things. Producers don't want to make a full game when they can charge crazy amoounts for single characters or costumes. Hopefully, the two other life simulations in development might go the more traditional route. The first three Sims games were released in a world where most people consumed the game from purchased media and so you had to ship a complete game that someone could use without an Internet connection (especially with the first title, when most people were still on dial-up) The Sims 4 has become like Grand Theft Auto 5, in that you have an engine that was originally released ten years ago, but has been hugely successful and so they just constantly update it and add expansions to it. Now that you can just provide such expansions over the Internet, they are cheap to produce. A lot of the stuff packs would just never have made economic sense under a model where you have to press a physical release, but now they can basically churn one out as soon as a designer has made a few new items and costumes. I came back to desktop gaming and the Sims because I was fed up with the awful mobile model, where people think paying two or even three digit real mount amounts for in-game currency or costumes all the time is legitimate. It sounds like the Sims franchise is been taking more in this direction and I had enough of that with FreePlay. I'd rather keep playing 4, or even 2 & 3, than some multiplayer limited mess.
I think this is a marketing scheme. It happens a lot in business. It’s one of the main reasons Nintendo has been real good and covering up the switch 2 leaks. There hasn’t been none that im aware of. But the reason they say it will co-exist is solely so people can keep buying dlc for the game. I dont even think they are going to focus sim4 much after p.r is out. It’s smart for sales. If my drug dealer told me theres a new kind of weed coming out next week, I probably would wait for that instead of buying something i already know. 😂 sorry i had to put this in pot head terms 😅
@@ddot4516 i remember those days with my older sister before weed became legal in my state. Buying from a dealer is so dangerous, when people call it a gateway drug, it was really that it was being sold alongside worse drugs by sketchy people, so it was easy to get into other things. My sister got addicted to meth, for a long time we would have to check to make sure our weed wasn't laced to get us addicted to other things. Legalizing made things so much better, now I can get it from the store with no fears or health risks.
In the video she kept mentioning the URBZ. I wonder if they are creating something like that because it had 1 apartment and you could travel to different areas. But this will be multiplayer. All I know is I LOVEDDD the Urbz!! Also I wonder if they are creating something like IMVU.
It really sounds like an sims mmo with urbz like inspiration which COULD be nice but seeing how they developed it is most likely a major fail But I liked IMVU the time I went on it. And that you could make your own stuff and put it up for sale. But this would be suuuuuuuuch a cash grab 😂
Sounds like EA is killing another Maxis franchise 😢 Not that Project Renee can't be good, but having Sims 4 be the main single player life sim for years to come when it's already way too old is tragic
They killed it years ago, unfortunately.. just beating a dead horse at this point. There are more life sims out or coming out, but it was the first major one, and best at marketing
@@cici3147 I honestly would rather keep playing Sims 4 than whatever Project Renee is, or will be. There’s nothing that stands out to me about that game. EA is clearly never going to listen to their own customers/buyers of their products, because they have a down line to deliver on as business owners. PR will be ran into the ground 💯🤣😅
@@rosestar1324 not even just less features.. the base game was empty asf and plain bad. Just willow creek and oasis springs (which were colorless maps,) no toddlers, no pools, no open world (or even atleast cars like in ts2 which also didn't have an open world), the most depressing loading screen, soo many glitches for a fresh game with no added content, etc. It was the most bare bones game I've ever seen.
Great video. Maybe not a lot of people remember, but around 2008 there used to be a game called The Sims Online, it was basically Sims 1 but multiplayer. I feel like some of your questions about how to interact with other sims, were already answered with Sims Online. Basically you could only have 1 sim. Families didn't exist. If you wanted to interact with another sim, for example, as you mentioned woohoo with another sim, you would send a request for interaction, and the other sim (real person) would have to either accept or refuse your interaction request. It was funny actually! I loved that game so much, it was my fav Sims game ever. And in terms of houses, the way it used to work was like, you could only have a house if you had a lot of simoleans to build a house (there were no cheating or hacks to make simoleans), but if you didn't have money you could be someone else's flatmate, which would allow you permission to live in someone's house without building mode enabled. Anyway, the game was AMAZING, so if project Renee is anything like that but with better graphics, it would be unreal, but I doubt it will be any good. I've lost hope in The Sims :(
I really think that the main reason they are avoiding the term "free to play" is more likely to be so they can avoid being classified as a "game". As project Rene is planned to be on mobiles, as well as PC, that classification is important. The Apple App Store has restrictions on "games" that don't apply to "apps" and those restrictions have a significant impact on having in-game stores. This is what the Epic Vs Apple war was all about and also why Roblox rebranded all their "games" as "experiences". If Project Rene is an app rather than a game then they can operate their in-app economy without Apple insisting on their exorbitant cut on every transaction.
An interesting note: Electronic Arts Inc. as of June 20, 2023 has filed 3 trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office under the word mark “EA Experience.” The serial numbers for these filings are 98051539, 40, and 41 and can be searched using the website’s Trademark Electronic Search System. Not sure if this means anything, but could be worth looking into.
I’m bracing for sims 4 to be the last sims game I play. There was an online sims game years ago so this isn’t the first but I’m not willing to go broke for a game I use to take my mind off real world problems.
Free to download remind me of those mobile versions of pc games that you get for "free" on playstore/app store but you play a little bit and then have to pay to continue the game (it's almost like a demo, but it's on playstore as if it's a full game). I don't think it's gonna be exactly like that, but like.... really weird wording, what tf do they mean by that?
I have been questioning whether or not it was The Sims 5 from the beginning. I thought it was possible, but it seemed so unlike a normal Sims game that I was skeptical. This basically was the nail in the coffin convincing me that Project Rene is not The Sims 5.
Free to download means basically you can't play the game without internet. You have to make an account and connect online to play. This is to prevent people from cracking the game, or at least having a harder time to crack it.
@@ddss7272 Well, of course, it will be cracked eventually. Everything always is, but it might just take longer this time because of the online feature.
They're going to completely milk their playerbase for even more money than they did with Sims 4. I'm sure everything will be gated by infinite pay walls. EA is the greediest gaming company out there. Someone just needs to make a replacement game for the Sims. Unfortunately.
i’m still not happy, whatever project rene is i want no part, it just sounds like money money money. my only hope is that the backlash of project rene is making them take the spin off route and they are waiting for paralives & life by you to release before releasing (or even just starting) the actual sims 5. i just don’t know how else the franchise could stay afloat otherwise, the competition has gotten too promising at this point and EA is taking baby steps toward what fans want.
I think they feel so powerful thay they ain't taking seriously LBY and Paralives because their "Game Changers" (under their payroll) don't talk about those games since becoming one in the last 3/4 years (well, i know of two who did on a live and looked for the tiniest excuses to bash LBY when even in their first trailers it was better and more complete than TS4 after 9 years), and also bc people keep buying packs bc there's nothing else like The Sims out there and i guess base game being free also get a few more players. It's like a Stockholm syndrome TS4 players have with EA, istg Edit: corrections and a little bit of more developed opinion lol
It seems all Simers share the same worries after this Summit. I think it should be Sims 5, If that will be some weird game, I simply will stay with Sims 4 and wait for a worthy descendant XD I have a big collection of Sims 4, but I'm not gonna pay for something that I don't like. It's important for me to have single-player experience :)
Omg so much!!! Thank you for pointing out the potential creep factor of the game. I've been saying this for ages. I've seen videos with "sims confessions". The game will have to be sanitized until it's no longer the same since EA keeps trending towards "aging it down"
Idk I’ve already checked out of Project Rene tbh, I’ll have to see how it is when it comes out. But I’m kind of glad they are continuing Sims 4. I feel like this will give them the time to give us the content it deserves.
Y'all, weather is not confirmed to be in the base game. If you watch the video, Lyndsay says very clearly, albeit extremely quickly, that it is a theoretical example of something they could add to the base.
I think that Project Renee isn't The Sims 5. Instead, its some sort of feature or huge update that's "free to download". That's why they keep saying that its a new way to play the sims because it will literally be just that. I think that it will coexist with ts4 because you probably need ts4 to access this new feature/update.
Imo EA is daft to keep trying to milk a dead horse i.e Sims 4 , the game is barely payable with the dozens of bugs and glitches and general performance issues. Not to mention how the limitations within the sims 4 base game framework make all of the additional packs lackluster... and that wont change even if they release another 50 packs for the game. I wish they'd just finish this trainwreck of a game and start with sims 5 by incorporating and improving the concepts from 2 and 3.
facts, Sims 4 is a snooze fest even with all of the packs installed. The game is just so so bad . I hate to compare but sims 3 base game alone is more fun than the entirety of sims 4
@@chich824 sad but true lol Especially if you're someone who plays these games for the gameplay aspect like i do. Sure build and buy in sims 4 is better but once you actually get down to playing the game in live mode..... i cant play 5 minutes without getting bored its just so shallow
I’m getting HEAVY club penguin vibes with project Renee…which I don’t hate! Houses you can customize while paying more for higher quality items, community events and a world map, etc. Like you said about appropriate interactions, club P has a VERY good model for conversation/interaction.
You make valid points! For underage simmers and interacting with them I feel like some interactions and chat features should be hidden for their protection.
Or Avakin. Avakin itself is a great game, but it used to be more adult-oriented. Now, users 13+ can join, and it’s really weird. You’ve got people who are 50, and you’ve got people who are 15. Creepy people are everywhere in Avakin :(
I'm convinced Project Rene was supposed to be the Sims 5, but then they saw how much backlash there was for it and how many people were talking about jumping to upcoming competition that they backpaddled and made it a side thing instead.
So far it’s sounds like project Renee is going to be what the sims 4 set out to be. Afaik TS4 was supposed to be an mmo but it didn’t work out so they just did barely the bare minimum and made it a main title
I was thinking about this… I think it’s increasingly likely that it will be called something random like, “sims forever.” Essentially, name it so it doesn’t feel like a successor to the mainline series. That way they can try to ditch the expectations game of, “oh it needs to have things like maids, burglars, cars, etc.” Ultimately I think that would be a BS sales tactic. I’d hate to see EA try to dodge criticism by saying, “well we’re trying to make a new kind of sims experience,” or some other PR talk. Like, NO, EA just make an honest effort to give us the game we want. Ffs, it’s not a big ask when you’ve had 10 years to bide time, while hiding behind the sims 4.
Literally all we want is a good sims sequel, that has all the Features of past games that we loved (open world, create a style, sims 2 like memories, but also sims 4 sim creation + building) and isnt some half assed thing on release (looking at you, sims 4) please EA....
And on the sims forums I was ripped apart for pointing out in the beginning that it wasn’t a good idea to call it sims 5. That it was project Renee and calling it sims 5 was limiting and could potentially be an opportunity for embarrassment down the line when it turned out to be wrong..
As a Runescape vet., this reminds me a lot of what Jagex did. At one point, there were 4 separate Runescapes. Each had their own dev teams, and resources were allocated based on demand. Two died, and now 10 years later, two Runescapes still exist side by side. To me, that's a VERY likely scenario if project Rene can't live up to the sandbox features of sims 4, which it ABSOLUTELY won't be able to. E.g. I have a game full of 100+ custom sims I made myself, designed off irl celebrities, and I can make them do whatever I want. You'll NEVER get that in a MMO game, no matter what. That's why they're not calling project Rene sims 5, because they've realized that it will be a COMPLETELY different gaming experience. This means they're being consciously mindful of the event that WAY WAY down the road we might see a DIRECT successor to The Sims 4, when graphics capabilities are so good you can't even imagine, but there's just no need for it now.
with the packs thing it could be like a Disney Dreamlight or Animal Crossing thing where most of it is like clothing or build stuff (kinda like kits) and therefore when you hang out or visit someone it won't effect it that much. plus its a great marketing strategy cause more people, especially kids, will want to but content to have the same stuff their friends have.
Its so crazy cuz i want more stuff for the sims 4 especially free stuff because i have all the main packs for the sims 4 and all the sims 3 packs they know some people will continue to buy anything they release because we want whatever is new for sims but they are bogus for not putting in the time to make better content and caring about keeping money coming in
honestly, Project Renee is starting to seem like an MMO game I used to play called OurWorld. it's the same concept: you have your own "apartment" and garden but you have to pay for more rooms, there were base worlds you could visit and then worlds for premium members, and you could customize your avatar. after playing OW as a kid tho, I'm totally uninterested in reliving the experience cuz it was definitely weird how many "relationships" happened in that game between strangers
This really makes it sound less like it will be a game and more like it will be a virtual hangout, where maybe you have your own apartment and can hangout and talk to people online and you have to earn points of some description to unlock more furniture or cosmetics. Kind of like VRChat or Habbo Hotel. (I am sure there are other better examples than these but I cannot think of the names). Potentially the side by side but not free to play, could mean you can download the app, but you need to create and upload your sim or other features from the sims4 game. (I vaguely remember them talking a lot about uploading content from the game to the app.) In summary I am going to assume this is a VR Chat meets Happy Home Paradise situation on mobile, and you will need the Sims4 game to play it and play certain elements on the PC which can them be uploaded to the mobile chat room which you can then explore and talk to people and show things off etc.
Aw, I appreciate you sharing this! Yeah, it is super frustrating that companies try to make so much money on something so simple. I really liked your idea at the end of making it similar to GTA. I always loved GTA whenever I wasn't able to play the Sims as a kid because it was interactive and I could drive, lol. This is just making me want to download the base game of Sims 4 permanently and stock up on CC....
I think they’re calling it free to download because they have an actual game called The Sims Freeplay and they don’t want to get it confused I think. I also theorize they’re including that “when it’s ready” because they’ll do a paid early access/beta period.
I play the sims 3 still I just can't give up that open world! Some features of ts4 are a lot better but I can't help but find it empty feeling. I've preordered Life By You 😁
Whenever I see “free to download” it’s usually attached to apps that allow you to download them for free but you either need to have a paid subscription to use them or you need to pay x amount to unlock all features. Since they said there won’t be a subscription, I’m guessing it’s the latter. Some things will be available for free while most will be locked behind a paywall.
I’m actually excited for something different for the sims. They have so much potential to create something new and a bit experimental. Side note: if woohoo is allowed through multiplayer it would have to be an 18+ game. Which I hope it is regardless cause I’m getting a bit annoyed with the preventions T-rating is giving them in the sims 4.
Not really new. More like trying the same idea over and over again and expecting different results. Will Wright was smarter enough it realise it didn’t work the first time. Multiplayer is Will Wright’s second hand failed idea.
In term of project rene's gameplay, maybe that's why they mentioned older games in the sims franchise like urbz (also reminds me of something like bustin out as well) where the player takes control of only one sim, something similar to avakin life perhaps?
I also think they were burned in the past by sims online and project Rene sounds a lot like their second shot at sims online. I bet they are treading super lightly
There was a Sims Online years ago, but it was abandoned. I beta tested it. There was also a lot of cyber sex going on. But it was very fun with the creative properties players built to level up skills.
I think Project Renee will appeal to kids more since like you said, it will probably have micro transactions like roblox. Project Renee probably won’t be popular with simmers who have been playing for years, but maybe for people who are playing the sims for the first time will find it interesting. Its likely that this game will be a pc/mobile hybrid and mobile will make it more available for kids to play.
I had tge same thoughts regarding multiplayer. We know that client base for the sims franchise are people across all ages. I wouldn't let my son play it, because it may be full of creeps like IMVU. You may even accidently play with 8yo and have no idea. My excitment for the prohect rene is below zero now. Microtransactions and low graphics to fit gameplay on a mobile phone, it's just a bo for me.
Project Rene is giving me Sims mobile 2 vibes. Doesn't seem like it'll be a traditional sims game at all more like a mobile/desktop game like Genshin and Star Rail.
They could still have a subscription model like Elder Scrolls Online where you can play without a subscription but if you want access to all DLCs (rather than buying them separately) plus added benefits, you'd have to pay a subscription
I clicked this thinking that YOU were wrong about the sims 5, but you were right. And i hate this im going to keep playing sims 4... and also packs for different seasons are CRAZY.
Project Renee is running alongside the sims 4 as a failsafe method. In my mind it's because it'll be completely multiplayer and those that don't want that will have the sims 4 as an option. It's an experiment and one i won't be part of! I'm not convinced when it comes to Life by You. I'm torn as to whether they were fully willing to release the game in that state and then changed their minds once they saw the feedback given they only get one chance at a successful launch and they know it. The other part of me wonders if they misread the room and thought people would appreciate the nostalgia of the graphics style given the love the sims 3 gets, in which case I kind of feel sorry for them and overhauling the graphics is no small task if that's what they are going to try and do. Either way I don't think it's for me. I'm excited about Paralives though!
I just wish instead of constantly coming out with new things with lesser quality and quantity each time they would focus on making packs they already have better. The biggest ones being fixing dine out and wedding story bugs. And actually making Horse Ranch worth the money. Multiplayer could be potentially cool but I have the same concerns as you do, especially if someone manages to get Wicked Whims working. Also, I feel there is potential for people to get there wires crossed e.g. Player A flirts with Player B's Character but they just think there sims would be cute together but Player B thinks its geniune.
Side by side is a textbook definition of not being a sequel, they have already said everything that needs to be said. I hate to admit it. Our wallets are about to get ABSOLUTELY juiced. I think the next time/money investment I make into life-sim games will have to be a competing franchise. What are your favorite alternatives?
They recently confirmed multi-player will be an option, but it will not be a game where random players pop into your world. You will have the option to play solo or play with friends. For people to get into your world you have to invite them and you will be able to toggle multi-player off. I personally hope they don't release it with only apartments. Not everyone has lived in a flat so they can't relate and may not like it.
I totally agree with all your concerns. When it comes to multiplayer, I think the key is in the phrasing "you will be able to play with your friends". It might be an invitation system for another player to join your world rather than one open world with many random players. I am just wondering what it would look like if I had a pack that my friends don't have. Would they not see the furniture in my house from this pack? Would they not be able to interact with it? There are a lot of things Sims needs to clear out.
Ok genuine question for people in this comment section: do you WANT a multiplayer game? I think I’d be okay if it was like animal crossing where it’s an option but I don’t have to play with friends. It would be fun to raise families and fuse them together and cause drama, kind of like playing Barbie’s as kids lol. But I don’t want to just…have a single avatar who I move around with and I can’t control my other sims. Edit: oh my god I never thought about underage people playing the sims AHHHH. how will they figure that out to not cause issues?! That seems really dangerous honestly.
Nah i don't want one. So if this is what they're doing then i'm just not gonna bother. I have nothing against the idea of a mmo spinoff, but the sims 4 sucks so much and it just doesn't make for a fun game experience. So i will most likely go to one of the alternatives
There are many ways you could do it. I could handle an optional multiplayer where you could, say, have a Sim go and visit another player's neighbourhood, in the same way you now take them to visit houses in another world. But this sounds like the game will be more limited and your Sims have to constantly coexist with Sims controlled by other players. I know I don't like that in Grand Theft Auto 5, so I can't see me wanting it in the Sims. Besides, it's nice to have a game that still works when the Internet is down!
@@monsterglacier I agree, but given the somewhat sexual content in the game, it does seem worrisome. I know more parents are computer savvy these days so I hope they would have the forethought to not allow their kids to play this if thats the case. I would just hate for someone to think they’re interacting with another adult just to find out it’s a kid. And then that goes into an area of like, is the person who didn’t know now going to be in trouble for exposing a kid to that content even if they didn’t know? And then what about predators that might use it as a loophole? At least when I played sims as a kid and my parents didn’t know some of the adult themes, there wasn’t another person on the other end of it. It was just me and maybe a school friend being silly but it was in a somewhat safe space. I just don’t know how they will regulate it. I guess they could just take that aspect out of the game altogether?
@@gnu_andrew yes I agree! I really hope it’s an option and not like locked in. Visiting friends could be so dope. But if it’s just a bunch of people interacting I really do not want it. I am not into that gameplay in a simulation game at all. A team effort kind of game sure, but a life sim is just more fun when I’m in my own little world lol
I think is a pretty natural progression to turn the sims into a MMO. They can randomly generate sims to populate the cities or towns, the sims 4 already does this. I think it would be very fun, of course many simmers could turn it into their dating app, which would be annoying, but also many people would roleplay in it and with NPC’s where you can assign as your family members, that can be solved for those who don’t care to interact beyong roleplaying.
They already tried a mmo. It didn’t do very well. It was called Sims Online and lost 20 million dollars. At least the creator of the sims was smart enough to realise it didn’t work the first time.
YESSS @10:44 I just started getting into the Urbz (never played it before) and adding the characters to my Sims 4 save file. I'd love if they updated the game. I miss Sims spinoffs. I loved the storylines. We had a mix of that with Sims 2 as well, where you'd want to pay the premade sims because their stories were actually interesting.
I just dont understand how they finally have genuine competition... and it still seems to be going downhill
I think it’s a plan dump. I think they’re shocked we’re all still hanging on.
what’s the competition?
For me, they saying free to download, not free to play, it's a red flag. It seemed like a very careful choice of words to not say that they'll monitize somethings in the base game.
Shigeru Miyamoto said it best years ago: It is not Free to play, but 'Free to Start....'
I remember they called it: "Free to enter" in the job listing
The moment I hear free-to-play, I look in another direction.
i feel like they are gonna have like game passes to play at this point
That would make absolute sense! They KNOW we aren't gonna like it so they are doing pre damage control
If they do know people arent gonna like why they insist in this online/multiplayer thing?
That is my question as well...are we ever going to get an actual Sims 5? I sure hope so, oof.
It might be intended to replace Sims FreePlay & Sims Mobile instead, with the ability to play it on the desktop. If it has things like micro-transactions, it sounds closer to those than the desktop Sims we've had with 1, 2, 3 & 4.
@@gnu_andrewthat’s a really good point
This is what I am thinking too. A risk mitigation strategy. The team is NOT CONFIDENT in Project Renee.
True, laundry should be a base game function, not a stuff pack lol. @@AcidBaby98
How the hell are they gonna keep this game alive its 10 years old already 😭😭 EA has lost their marbles
Same!
But why?!? They legit have the perfect frame work that merely needs to be copy pasted with updated graphics 😂
@@KingKaleb77 they are charging the same amount as an expansion pack for a house (not even that good) in the sims mobile and people not even able to play with it because of a glitch that locks them out.

Spot on.
Oh no 💀
Ts4 and Project Renee existing "side by side" is so wild for me because I guarantee the two of them will not be fit side by side in my C drive.
I did write this whole comment before Satch threw in that lil bit at the end lmao. I’m not the only person thinking that it could be a spin-off
Man, I really wish they made spinoffs like the Urbz and Bustin' Out. The Urbz 2 (Which was apparently talked about) would be pretty cool honestly.
We've seen Sims Online in addition to this example as well. Sounds like this is just another attempt.
That sounds.... not fun
Facepalming all the way into the ground. Where did she say that?
Lindsey Pearson. She’s been on the team since TS2. She is just the face, I doubt she’s the one making these decisions outright.
Lmao sims players not wanting pools is fucking wild, I didn’t play the sims as a kid but even then I associated it with sims having pools (and removing the pool ladder lmao)
@@tATuCentral She does have a say though. She has helped to sink The Sims, I can't stand her.

Do you want access to everything pay a monthly fee of $30.99 or yearly fee of $360.00.
And it’s completely unnecessary. The sims should always be single player. We already have a community. If they want to do an online game they should make a new one
Or they could just release a better game to ensure it won't flop. Like sims 2 and 3
@@pirateninjaunicorn666 sounds great but they are too far gone to actually turn around and do that

They’ll go down the games as a service route - and that’ll be that. The end of The Sims.
Everything these days is ‘rebooted’ - we can never have a real sequel anymore, so I guarantee it’ll just be called “The Sims”.
Take the movie Scream 5 for reference.
Good thing paralives is cominggg
Maybe they let us speculate so they can know what we want... when we thought it was The Sims 5, people were against leaving TS4 because of how much money they've spent, so they made the announcement so vague they can change direction if they wanted to.
But idk, if paralives and life by you are released, I honestly don't think TS4 will have a chance against them.
I'm already done with sims4 for and I'm jumping to paralives or life by you cuz they already look better.
I feel like they should already know what we want and what not with all the criticism that Sims 4 received..
The huge emphasis on playing with others is making me feel like there is no other option to play. I don't play sims to play with others. I want a space for me to build and make stories outside of others opinions and influence.
Thanks for keeping all of us Simmers updated on The Sims with your videos, Satch! 😊
Paywall"
Everyone get your pitchforks, it’s time to storm the castle
It's been a decade and that games code has crashed onto itself. I think the only reason they haven't done that couch idea yet is because they physically can't.
@@Delete59187 could be this, or it could be that they're weening players into it by making more packs with less stuff. Testing how much simmers will pay for a few new objects (that look eerily similar to object meshes we already have). Idk , if they say they want to continue to add content to sims 4 along with project renee, it just seems like this will be the easiest path for them to take after they figure out how to implement it.
Sounds exacly like sims 3

Great and very informative video Satch. Yes, my worst fears about The Sims franchise have now been realized. Thank God for the competition.
but they already said it will be free no subscriptions.
You didn't watch the video did you OP?
This just feels like it’s going to be an online chat room full of your “avatar” sims with the life simulation added on like normal. I just don’t know how it’s gonna work
People just need to accept that EA isn't going to create another in-depth life-sim. The fact is that making a game like that is hard. Why do that when there is money to be made with a shallow micro-transaction game for kids.
That is why I give up on EA we got new live simulation games coming :D
they stopped producing good quality games at sims 2
Exactly 😒
Sadly, it's the case with most companies these days. Mobile gaming has wrecked things. Producers don't want to make a full game when they can charge crazy amoounts for single characters or costumes. Hopefully, the two other life simulations in development might go the more traditional route.
The first three Sims games were released in a world where most people consumed the game from purchased media and so you had to ship a complete game that someone could use without an Internet connection (especially with the first title, when most people were still on dial-up)
The Sims 4 has become like Grand Theft Auto 5, in that you have an engine that was originally released ten years ago, but has been hugely successful and so they just constantly update it and add expansions to it.
Bingo
I think this is a marketing scheme. It happens a lot in business. It’s one of the main reasons Nintendo has been real good and covering up the switch 2 leaks. There hasn’t been none that im aware of. But the reason they say it will co-exist is solely so people can keep buying dlc for the game. I dont even think they are going to focus sim4 much after p.r is out. It’s smart for sales. If my drug dealer told me theres a new kind of weed coming out next week, I probably would wait for that instead of buying something i already know. 😂 sorry i had to put this in pot head terms 😅
You have to have a plug for weed? Man I just go to the store. You roughin it for real
@@AcidBaby98 yeah its not legal in philly yet unfortunately
I loved urbz too omg it was my favorite one 😭😭
It really sounds like an sims mmo with urbz like inspiration which COULD be nice but seeing how they developed it is most likely a major fail
But I liked IMVU the time I went on it. And that you could make your own stuff and put it up for sale. But this would be suuuuuuuuch a cash grab 😂
It’ll probably be a bit more like second life
I loved the urbz as a kid
Sounds like EA is killing another Maxis franchise 😢
Not that Project Renee can't be good, but having Sims 4 be the main single player life sim for years to come when it's already way too old is tragic
Sims 4 died the moment they released the base game with less features than Sims 3
I've lost hope in The Sims :(
I reckon it's gonna be like Sims mobile is to Sims free play. More restricted, focusing on one household and their legacy
This is good info
Ea should change monetization system. It's so unhealthy for both players and dev teams.
We all know they won’t though :/
Yeah, the EA'S CEO totally are gonna change it after you comment this in a random video on RUclips. Sure.
But other games that's being called Free to Play, like Fortnite, are also online-only and require an account.
Everything is crackable
They said Sim City 5 was impossible to crack. Well guess what happened
But EA app is halfway there though… because you have to go online before going offline to play ts4 🧐😵💫
@@maryzinhaah Yes, but in this case, it means you'll have to stay online constantly.
@@ddss7272 Well, of course, it will be cracked eventually. Everything always is, but it might just take longer this time because of the online feature.
I couldn't help but think of that black mirror episode whne you were talking about friends woohooing in game. Yeah, that episode didn't end well lol.
My thoughts exactly lmao…it’s just a way more boring version of that ep
They're going to completely milk their playerbase for even more money than they did with Sims 4. I'm sure everything will be gated by infinite pay walls. EA is the greediest gaming company out there. Someone just needs to make a replacement game for the Sims. Unfortunately.
That's what I hope paralives and life by you can do🤞🏾
i’m still not happy, whatever project rene is i want no part, it just sounds like money money money. my only hope is that the backlash of project rene is making them take the spin off route and they are waiting for paralives & life by you to release before releasing (or even just starting) the actual sims 5. i just don’t know how else the franchise could stay afloat otherwise, the competition has gotten too promising at this point and EA is taking baby steps toward what fans want.
It's like a Stockholm syndrome TS4 players have with EA, istg
Edit: corrections and a little bit of more developed opinion lol
It seems all Simers share the same worries after this Summit. I think it should be Sims 5, If that will be some weird game, I simply will stay with Sims 4 and wait for a worthy descendant XD I have a big collection of Sims 4, but I'm not gonna pay for something that I don't like. It's important for me to have single-player experience :)
Omg so much!!! Thank you for pointing out the potential creep factor of the game. I've been saying this for ages. I've seen videos with "sims confessions". The game will have to be sanitized until it's no longer the same since EA keeps trending towards "aging it down"
I definitely thought it would be a spin off after the behind the sims segment they kept referring to castaway and urbz when talking about project rene
The Urbz was fabulous. Playing that at the time of release really felt so big and so fresh for the series. Those were great years to be a tween.
I will sound old when I say this, but I miss being able to buy a game and just own it. Like no upselling and no DLC and stuff like that.
@@chich824 sad but true lol
Especially if you're someone who plays these games for the gameplay aspect like i do. Sure build and buy in sims 4 is better but once you actually get down to playing the game in live mode..... i cant play 5 minutes without getting bored its just so shallow
You've brought up such an important issue regarding children online and woohoo/romantic interactions! Absolutely safeguarding nightmare!
Agree. I didn’t even think about that.
Personally I think that project rene will be more like a mmo than what we are used to in earlier titles. Im thinking IMVU but with better graphics.
That'd be cool
I just realised you have the same fake ikea plant in the background as the one I have in my kitchen lmao
I was thinking about this… I think it’s increasingly likely that it will be called something random like, “sims forever.” Essentially, name it so it doesn’t feel like a successor to the mainline series.
That way they can try to ditch the expectations game of, “oh it needs to have things like maids, burglars, cars, etc.”
Ultimately I think that would be a BS sales tactic.
This means they're being consciously mindful of the event that WAY WAY down the road we might see a DIRECT successor to The Sims 4, when graphics capabilities are so good you can't even imagine, but there's just no need for it now.
i loved Sims Medieval. is there anything similar to it? 'cause I'm really bad at games usually but this one worked for me haha
with the packs thing it could be like a Disney Dreamlight or Animal Crossing thing where most of it is like clothing or build stuff (kinda like kits) and therefore when you hang out or visit someone it won't effect it that much. plus its a great marketing strategy cause more people, especially kids, will want to but content to have the same stuff their friends have.
0:18 holy shit that’s kinda scary ngl 😭
This really makes it sound less like it will be a game and more like it will be a virtual hangout, where maybe you have your own apartment and can hangout and talk to people online and you have to earn points of some description to unlock more furniture or cosmetics. Kind of like VRChat or Habbo Hotel. (I am sure there are other better examples than these but I cannot think of the names). Potentially the side by side but not free to play, could mean you can download the app, but you need to create and upload your sim or other features from the sims4 game. (I vaguely remember them talking a lot about uploading content from the game to the app.)
In summary I am going to assume this is a VR Chat meets Happy Home Paradise situation on mobile, and you will need the Sims4 game to play it and play certain elements on the PC which can them be uploaded to the mobile chat room which you can then explore and talk to people and show things off etc.
I look forward to your uploads everyday! You’re so cute and your laugh makes me giggle lol I love your channel so much Satch ❤
5:50 that’s a Black Mirror episode
I play the sims 3 still I just can't give up that open world! Some features of ts4 are a lot better but I can't help but find it empty feeling. I've preordered Life By You 😁
genuine question: if the sims 5 turned out to be ts3 gameplay with ts4 graphics, would you be down with that? :)
@@azzaakos1284 Yeah definitely! As the sims 5 will be free I'll still try it out 😊
Whenever I see “free to download” it’s usually attached to apps that allow you to download them for free but you either need to have a paid subscription to use them or you need to pay x amount to unlock all features. Since they said there won’t be a subscription, I’m guessing it’s the latter. Some things will be available for free while most will be locked behind a paywall.
Love you satch!!!!!! Your my favourite youtuber!!! Been supporting you since you first started your channel 🎉❤
wow, that's impressive.
When they mentioned The Urbz, I got really excited. I miss that game 😢
Yes! I loved it and visiting all their homes.
So EA Play 😂. EA Play is already headed down that road. You can't open the EA app without being baited with EA Play.
Honestly if it's an MMO type of game I'd actually be kind of excited to play it!
I clicked this thinking that YOU were wrong about the sims 5, but you were right. And i hate this im going to keep playing sims 4... and also packs for different seasons are CRAZY.
It may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm hoping the Sims 5 is an updated version of the Sims 3. I love the open world concept.
Project Renea = Sims version of "15 minute cities", gentrification meets lockdown. Thanks Satch!!!!
Having amenities within walking distance is a good thing and not some big government conspiracy, come on.
5:35 wasn't there a black mirror episode just like that 🙃
Feels like The Sims Online 2
What are your favorite alternatives?
so far I am liking Life by You, can't wait to see what else they are doing to improve the title.
@@thegamingenderman paralives? that's i like that one and Life by You
Be ready for Paradox to take down another EA franchise. It happened with SimCity, now it's gonna happen with Sims lmao.
Sims 5? Nah, I'm personally waiting for the true Sims 4 game to release: Life By You.
No more dangerous than kids playing other mmos. Besides its the caregivers job to ensure kids are playing age approrpiate games, not companies.
Damn I wasn’t even this early to my own birth
YESSS @10:44 I just started getting into the Urbz (never played it before) and adding the characters to my Sims 4 save file. I'd love if they updated the game. I miss Sims spinoffs. I loved the storylines. We had a mix of that with Sims 2 as well, where you'd want to pay the premade sims because their stories were actually interesting.
