With this set I'm honestly looking forward to the additions to Highlander decks in wild more than playing standard. I will enjoy standard for a bit but control is probably just going to be eaten by snakes. Something like a highlander Paladin with only the best minions and highlander cards so the new mirage card just consistently gives you crazy cards sounds so fun. Imagine the mirage turning into the minion that converts your health to armour, then it converts to old Reno and then repeat or just eventually draw the real ones and you have 90 total health. Draw Cariel to be almost invincible. You can use the new beast tutor card to draw it and set it to 0 mana too. If you draw in the wrong order though it makes the mirages worse.
Witchwood era me would've been optimistic the game was finally toning the power level down and reeling in the power creep, the chief problems killing the game. Current era me knows this just means we'll go over the top more on power creep and some money grab like Monk is probably on the way to being added.
I have stopped playing for years, and still watch your videos... But have a question regarding no duplicate cards deck, wouldn't it be viable to run at least a couple of duplicates as long as you can cheat them out to your hand so whenever you need to so you can prep and get the no duplicate condition ready?
idk it looks like reno priest and reno shaman might actually be better than druid because they can steal big cards and have control tools. shaman can effectively block highlander with the triple overload in opponents deck. Highlander does add way more variance though so its hard to say.
Now that the mayor’s review is finally out, can we acknowledge how absolutely busted the new Reno is? It’s twisting nether for every single class even those that were traditionally bad at board clears, but wait, it even silences them so it’s more like plague of death, but wait, they don’t enter the death pool so it’s like the old reno hero card, but wait, IT EVEN REMOVES DORMANT MINIONS, and not just that, it ONLY HITS ENEMY MINIONS. Oh yeah and they can only play one minion next turn. Oh and you get a really good hero power and 5 armor just to add insult to injury. I don’t think the card would be insane at all as a class card depending on what class it would be in, even though old reno was 10 mana and didn’t come with the minion restriction and hit your own minions and an arguably less useful hero power, but sure, power creep and all (even though descent of dragons was a really powerful set but fine). But wait, this new Reno is neutral, every single class can use it. That combined with all the previous benefits especially the fact that it only hits enemy minions, is so ridiculously overpowered. I fear that this will just be a Reno v Reno expansion
Idk I think the highlander restriction is pretty big. A lot of the decks that will play it will suffer from consistency issues, and it'll often come down to having drawn Reno or not. The card will boast insane Drawn/played WR for sure, but the decks themselves may not fair as well as more consistent strategies
Reno is pretty much going to dominate the meta, a board clear that locks your opponent from refilling for a turn is too damn good on its own. Plus it ignores Deathrattles and doesn’t put into the graveyard. There’s a ton of value priest has through copying cards from your opponent so it might end up being a real problem (as always) in being impossible to beat in control v control. Mage with busted SIF is the only real threat
I mean, there are easy counters with Death Knight, so highlander might be limited if Plague's can get a foothold. I'm playing Plagues this expansion and it'll be even better if you can stop Highlander as well. Even with Sweeper, you can still generate more cards and provided you have played Helya, it's inevitable.
Worth noting, the major negative to druid highlander is in fact reno, If druid is strong suddenly other highland decks get a boost, since they can remove the nest.

Even though it sounds like Trump isn't really enthused enough to continue playing this expansion, I'm grateful that he at least came back for the previews. Hopefully the next expansion will really bring out something special to entice Trump back. Maybe somewhere down the line we'll end up getting a new class too.

Honestly I think there's ways to build some of the new set in a much more ruthless way than Trump's envisioned with the value payoffs. Blindeye Sharpshooter DH, Sludge Warlock, Zoo Paladin and Miracle Rogue all strike me as possible contenders. We'll see in a few hours though.
Pull rates killed my momentum. I really got back into this game, saved up enough gold for 120 packs, I got three legendary and 7 epics. I have nothing to craft decks with, so I guess I'm done with this game again.
rheastrasza is not actually a good wincondition though. It's way too slow and up front it's a massive tempo loss. Then you pray to live a few turns and get good rng to even break even.
What I dislike most with modern Hearthstone is that their is no play/counterplay dynamic. You can’t counter anything and it feels like a race to pull off a game winning combo before your opponent or you go aggro and win on turn 4. Not to mention how rng based it has become. It just makes it frustrating to play. I think the worst offender of this is the discover mechanic simply reducing the bad outcomes so everything feels like a highroll. Reloving discover would probably improve the health of the game but I doing it will ever happen since making the game better isn’t the main goal of any live service game.
