This kit was originally issued from MPC I think in 77-78? , blue box, white car with a Star's and Stripes livery, Then rereleased as an AMT ,hence the ERTL on the sprue's, Amt ERTL ,ERTL was Purchased by AMT or vice versa in the late 70's I think 👍,just my 2 cents, had the AMT kit in about 1980, just purchased the rerelease from round 2.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing. I've been modifying the rear end to get the tires under the body. I'll post an update when that step is complete.

The extra parts in this kit are there because the kit was Modified from an annual release that was stock. The two spoke steering wheel was a stock Item the 3 spoke steering wheel is the race wheel. The body was cut into two pieces to make the tilt front end. There are several of these type kits out there where they modified the original mold to make a custom, or racing version of that year car. They even changed molds for different model years of the cars. like the 74 Camaro was changed to make a 75 to make a 76 and so on. This is why the original stock versions of these kits sell for so much. I hope this will help you make sense of why there are the "extras" in the kit you have there

Thank you very much. It’s not very often anymore to get useful feedback.
