Very nice looking force Ste. The Pacific theatre certainly does have a nice appeal to wargame. I have quite a few plastic and metal marines which I’ve not got round to doing anything with yet 😁
Thanks Lee! It just so happened that we were both painting up jungle themed armies at the same time so it worked out pretty well. Jungle games are definitely my favourite when it comes to Bolt Action especially when the armies are historical opponents. The plastic USMC box remains one of my favourite that Warlord Games has produced 😀
Cheers Chris! This was probably the first Bolt Action project that I would consider finished and one that I've definitely played the most games using. Always enjoy running my USMC as it gives me the opportunity to take flamethrowers 😄
My big problem with the pacific theatre is that it’s not easy to get convincing looking dense jungle foliage/scenery. A lot of the time it ends up looking like the inside of a fishtank ! I would like to make one based on a huge ruined hill temple complex in a jungle clearing. (the complete 6’x4’ board being the Temple complex). (Similar to Angkor Wat). Loving your medic/ casualty combo and your war dogs......full of dynamic and well thought out poses. 😉
There is definitely an element of fish tank chic about our jungle set up at times! We play a lot of our games over what we affectionately call The Khazi Trail which normally includes a small village or outpost with a wooden outhouse 😁 That sounds like a really good plan for a set up and would be a great backdrop for a narrative campaign! I've yet to use that particular medic team yet but my previous one was quite adept at saving lives 😀
It wasn't always a jungle. You could still find all sorts of terrain in the Pacific, from conifers and fagaceae type trees, to very European type towns because of colonization. If anything, I use a lot of dried moss and plucked foam for dense bushes in a jungle type setting and it works as well without relying too much on fish tank plastic plants.
Top work! I've never painted any Bolt Action Japanese but with my USMC I found that once I was happy with the scheme that I had chosen then I seemed to fly through them! I think I painted the first 1000 points in just over two weeks which is pretty fast given the speed that I normally paint 😀
Cheers mate! I think the jungle basing certainly helps with tying an army together around a specific theme. This is why with my USMC the basing is fairly standard/simple but links the entire project together. Looking forward to adding some new units to the force this year ☺
These are lovely Ste. I may have tripped and accidentally bought an Island Assault set to start right after I've finished my 8th Army. I'll no doubt be sending you a message or two for some bits advice.
Cheers Stu! My USMC were the first project I properly speed painted but also one that I've gamed with the most. The plastic USMC box still remains one of my favourite releases by Warlord both for the bits and pieces on the sprue but also how versatile they are in conjunction with other plastic kits. I'm really looking forward to getting my USMC back on the table as it's a lovely force to both paint and play. The scenery in the Island Assault box looks really pretty interesting 🙂
Thanks William, much appreciated! The flamethrowers are my own kitbashed creations using the flamer tanks from GW Imperial Guard and some green stuff. They aren't exactly historically accurate but they do a job 🙂
Japanese armor isnt the best. We can agree. But its extremely common and you see lots of it. I saw 2/3rds of the entire Japanese army's inventory of Ho-Ros this past weekend's tournament. Heheh snipers, I might have killed 1 guy the entire weekend, I should have just brought an anti-tank rifle team. Nice video. My buddy and I are already prepping for next year's doubles tourney. We are both doing a marine landing force.
Thanks for the comment and apologies for the delay in responding! Yeah, my regular gaming opponent has a large IJA army and always brings at least one tank with him. Usually due to my poor dice rolling they turn out to be a lot more powerful than they should be! Yeah, I have found that snipers can either be super deadly and effective or do nothing for the entire game. I still tend to take one though just for the thematic effect! 🙂
It all depends on the size of game we are playing. Anything over 1250 I will always try and include at least one forward observation team. Yup, I would normally include a Sherman and it wasn't until I had finished editing the video that I realised I had completely forgotten to add it 😁
Thanks Justin! It was the first really large scale Bolt Action army that I ever completed so will always be a pretty special army to me. When the new book comes out I'll certainly be adding some new units to it 😊
What a excellent army love your kit bashing, What colour did you use for uniforms as i have just ordered a box myself Look forward to more of your kit bashing videos .
Hey David, that's very kind, thank you! The way I painted the USMC uniforms is to start with Vallejo Russian Uniform Green then apply a wash of Agrax Earthshade. For highlights I simply add a small drop of Sunny Skintone to the Russian Uniform Green. Hope that helps 😊
I would definitely recommend it! Lots of scope for painting and modelling the miniatures but they are a lot of fun to play too. There is definitely something awesome about two historically accurate opponents duking it out over authentic scenery 😊
I really like using my wardog teams.....my opponent,on the other hand, is never too keen on facing them! It's a unit that I always like to take where I can 😃
Cheers buddy! It was the first Bolt Action army I completed and it's about 1800 points now I think. The plastic USMC box from Warlord Games is still one of my favourite kits 😀
I have painted up a squad from the DAK box by Perry Miniatures but because they don't scale very well with the rest of my Warlord Games Bolt Action miniatures, I didn't really paint any more. Although I did use the radio set from that set in my recent DAK project 😃
@@OnPointHQOk Great to hear. I got myself the Desert Rats, and Want to Build my British Army on the Cheap. We will see how they hold up. If I can I will display my Bolt Action Stuff soon.
Warlord...cough...sponsored..cough..😂 Nice sections. I hope they are magnetized not glued there...Flamethrower looks terrible, painted an based, i do not suggest take it..in the battle. I like the pak.
No, they were just on cardboard bases so that I didn't have to move a lot of figures around. My USMC is one of the few times that I've not really made any different kind of basing with everyone pretty much being individually based 😀
I did yes, I'm not a fan of metal miniatures as they don't seem to scale well against the plastic kits. So I went rummaging through my bits boxes and found quite a few old Imperial Guard bits and pieces. So I used the tanks, some green stuff and a Thompson SMG that I cut down to make the firing hose. I also did this for my Winter Germans. For my Polish Airborne, I used an old Forge World Imperial Guard part as the tank. Can't go wrong with a bit of kitbashing 😃👍

Very useful, and great-looking models, tooo. Thank you for sharing!

I started Marines and Japanese at the same time and now have over 1k points of each after only a few weeks, including build/paint time!

Awesome look at your army. I always like a themed force

Very interesting and informative thank you. One question where did you get the flame throwers?

No naval Observer, No observers at all? Also, I think at least a single Sherman should be added.

Looking at this army myself! Would love to see your board sometime.

Woof!

Lol I was gonna say... you go all the way to the “jungles of the pacific” just to play bolt action? Hardcore brother...
Yeah this is a saying that has sort of slipped into our Bolt Action vocabulary! We are just off to Normandy 1944....get the time machine 😄
My Friend do you have Perry Miniatures? Greetings! Dario
Uploading soon Bolt Action Models I painted up!

did you kitbash the flamethrower with a 40K Imperial guard???
