- How to scribe a saddle notch cheaply and correctly. Did you ever hear the saying there is more then one way to skin a cat. These video's are neant for the person that wants to try something or do it himself in his or her own way!
Thank you for this video ! I tried this for my cabin and was very pleased with the results.
Thanks very much and that is why I make these videos to show people this is no right or wrong!! You are only limited by your imagination!!
I've been busy with my music and other things look for some new videos that will be very helpful in the coming weeks!
now that it's been 5 years, THANK YOU.. If you can get a friend to hold the camera so you can show us /walk us newbies through how to do this, I'd be very thankful. I'd buy you a cup of coffee too
I used your idea with my log cabin and it worked. Any firm wire will work.
Excellent happy with the results??
Awesome video, thank you for the advice. I'm gonna do it your way!
Thanks man right on diy the way you want! There's no wrong or Right.
Very innovative. I love your videos!
Thank you Much appreciated
Love your method! I’m definitely using this. Thank you!
Thanks man Awesome!
Thanks! This was really helpful. Great Idea, going to try it next week!
Again what works best for you is the best way to do it! Thanks for your comments!
Thank you. I always wondered what the proper name was for Lincoln Log joints.
There is nothing wrong here...good job...We are getting ready to build a cabin out of poplar trees. We will have videos and also we will use the wire process. Awesome job. If you have time show us more videos of you recent work. God bless. I subbed you on two account so....!
Keep us informed.
Thanks for subscribing!! I appreciate ate the kind words! The winter is behind is and I will be back at It. I make these videos to help people out so they can figure out for themselves what will work for you. The next video I'm going to be making by request is how to go from logs to stick framing on the gable ends. It's nice to have logs all the way up but this was I can insulate the gable ends and with 12" rafters I can go R43. That and insulating that gable ends and floor joined , will keep the heat in nicely!! Logs have a R value of about 3 so think about that. Thanks
Ingenious idea ! Thanks for sharing.
thank you!!
Nice
Well that was awesome. Good work. Been looking for this.
Thanks that's why I make the videos to inspire and let people know that you are only limited by your imagination!
Thanks I appreciate it and if you subscribed thank you so much!
@@jockeyshift1 I hit the sub. Check my stuff as well. I'm starting a cabin myself. I'm using brake line for my mold.
Very helpful video, thank you!
thanks!!!!
Thanks. I'll be using this technique.
Thanks please subscribe if you would like to see more
Thanks for subscribing
This is brilliant, I,m building one tomorrow
Thanks!! Good luck with the building
I'm thinking about building a little cabin in the spring. I think I'll give this a try haha
Do that you might be surprised von how well it comes out! I step I forgot to mention. Is to take a disc sander with a metal fiber disc and clean up the corner before scribing. Thanks please subscribe
@@jockeyshift1 Alright thanks for the tip! And I just subscribed to ya haha
@@EricCole69 thanks appreciate it
Appreciate the tip!
Thanks
Heck, toss a couple of line levels on each horizontal end of the solder if you're paranoid. Great idea.
thanks!
Thanks for your videos. That method about scribing was new to me. Fun learning new ways - and nice to see and hear it works out well for you! I just might have to try that myself. One question though, about stabilizing the logs. I cannot see you've put in any bars on the logs moving towards the door opening. Is the one notch in itself enough to make sure the logs stay put or have you done something else in addition?
Looking forward to more videos!
beisern thanks for the nice comments I don't use log dogs as they put to many holes in the logs I custom made pointed metal stops to keep it from rolling
Hmm, at 3:16 there is a nice view of the door opening. These metal stops you mention, they are still there? I mean, you haven't used any dowels or anything else to make sure the logs don't shift position
oll after you've finished the notch and put the log(s) in place?
@@beisern when you board or frame around the door they will stay put.
No at that particular moment there was no stops in place. Once you get the log up you roll it until you find the way the log wants to sit. This jogs in the tree will make it sit the way it wants too.
Thanks. It'll be interesting seeing further progress!
I wasn't going to spend that money on a scribe i thought of using heavy copper wire. Only question i have is if my biggest gap between logs are say 5in do i set the wire 5 in up then scribe
Hey matt If your working off a subfloor like did. Rest the log up in place. Before doing any thing else roll the log back from the corner and take a disc sander with a fiber sanding pad for metal. You need that kind of abrasive disc to clean the corner nice and smooth. roll the log back in place and put the divider in the widest part on that side. then keep them open to that gap and put them on top of the log that you are going to scribe the top log to. watch the video and you will see the red pencil mark that I got from putting the divider up to give me the distance. Make the mark in the center and lift the wire up to that red mark and trace around it. repeat process on the other end before butting any wood out, I hope this helps please subscribe and thanks
Results speak for themselves!
Thanks!
That sounds ghetto af but tbh I'm sure it would work stupendously
Your comment that sounds ghetto shows your IQ or lack there of. Your one of these haters that just troll RUclips and make hateful comments to make feel better about yourself!!!
Pioneers didnt have a $150 Veritas Scriber. Great job.
Well said and thanks!!
Faster, better, cheaper!
Very happy your having good results works even better if you take a disc sander and clean the rough spots up!!
I had this same idea when I was a kid, but I was afraid it wouldn't work.
Thanks your only limited by your imagination!
that seems like a good crack between the logs
Didn't channel the bottom wanted a more traditional built cabin going to chink it
this is easily the most confusing video I have ever watched!!!
Sorry it was no help to you .Most people got it but I didn't have a tripod stand as I said in the video I can't hold my phone and show you at the same time.
First thing out of the gate you said, "I'm not gonna waste your time". Well, you did. You spent 6 minutes and 27 seconds waving your camera around and repeating yourself. You never did lay a chainsaw on your work and we never saw the results of your scribing method. You didn't even form the wire, "show" us how to reference it on the subject log nor marked it up.
You appear to know what your doing, but you do not know how to teach. Just my opinion.
Well you can 't please everyone. I get it though I had my phone in my hand and can't do much while holding a phone. I think as you read the feedback below most if not everyone got what I was saying and how to do it. sorry it didn't work for you and will keep it in mind or buy some kind of stand so to free up my hands.
The man just gave you a free valuable lesson at no cost to you. Then you used up more of his time complaining. How about some basic courtesy and try using some good manners to answer your questions on what it was that you would like to know? It goes a long way in this life mate
Wrong and not a full scribed log. just wrong.. please keep doing it this way, it makes the real pro's job's look so much better.
What ever your handle implies liberal, dysfunctional etc your a real pro log builder?? This title pro builder!! What a joke I hired people like you who thinks they are the shit. You notice I said this is not for you do called blow hards!!
That was the whole purpose for doing it this way, to help people that want to do there own thing. And to piss people like you that thinks that your way of the right way.
Also this is my home not a business!! I wanted a pioneer type look I know your saying because I didn't do a full scribe or channel the bottom that it is wrong. It's up to the builder owner what is right or wrong not you!
Just going to get it out there. My family has been in the logging business since the early 1860s in Oregon and Washington. You don't have the market cornered on being a horses ass, but you ain't making friends "Pro". Alternative construction methods are always welcome, but being rude isn't.
Michael thanks for the choice that isn't the most obvious for many of us. I suspect that many of us will try out your method. Thank you.
