Exactly. This Bill received strong by partisan support. The Federal, State and local elected public servants will get the increase as well.
It is self serving. The majority of the State and Federal Senators and Representatives have lucrative deals with special interest groups, PACs, investments in hedge funds, lifetime pensions and healthcare.
These people need to recuse themselves from this Bill. The money belongs in the hands of the lower income public servants.

If you're receiving Social Security survivor benefits and also have a public sector pension from a job where you didn’t pay into Social Security, this bill could affect you. Right now, the Government Pension Offset (GPO) often reduces survivor benefits for people in this situation. If the Social Security Fairness Act becomes law, it would eliminate the GPO, potentially allowing you to receive your full survivor benefits without the offset. However, since the bill still needs Senate approval and might face delays or changes, it’s good to stay updated as it progresses.

Now that there is the support from the majority of Representatives to fix this , the opposition comes up with "a new solution". And do you know how long their "better bill" will take to implement? Probably NEVER, as it has very little support and is therefore doomed to fail, which is EXACTLY what those who oppose H.R. 82 want. Years and years and years and years of taking money out of hard working peoples paychecks and give them nothing to crumbs at the end. What a slimy group of politicians who oppose this knowing they will screw millions of Americans for decades to come, what a bunch of scumbags.

Why should people who didn't pay fully into the SS trust fund get full benefits?
The reason WEP and GPO exist is because they paid into their own local pensions instead of social security! How about don't accept your teachers pensions if you want full Social Security benefits, that's completely possible.
The trust fund is already at a massive deficit! This is just making the thing fail quicker!

If I opted out, I would receive more in my paycheck but I understood that I would receive no or reduced Social Security when I retired. It was my choice and I paid into both. If a person knowingly opts out of Social Security with the understanding that he won’t be eligible for it at retirement, should he receive it? If the retiree had no choice into paying into Social Security, that is another matter but if he turned it down, he shouldn’t receive it at retirement.

I can't even begin to tell you how disgusted I am with the government we have right now. They can send billions of dollars to other countries and help everybody else, but they're complaining that it might deplete the social security fund over time??? This is why our administration sucks and we need new reform acts to protect the older people and their social security. People on social security should be getting enough money to cover everything they need plus money to live comfortably for the rest of their days on this Earth. All the money being sent to these other countries help this one, help that one and they can't even help their own hear at home, makes me sick!!! And as far as I'm concerned social security should start for any person 60 and above. The age they have right now is ridiculous. Anyone that works over 40 years should be eligible for social security. I have worked my whole life since I was 16. I am now 61 yet I cannot collect social security. That would be an extra $2,000 a month in my pocket. If I collect a social security right now, that would easily pay for my groceries car insurance, utility bills and household bills a month. Then I could still have my online shop for extra money if I needed it.

Many of them worked two jobs, or they had a job before or after their time as a teacher, policeman, etc and paid into social security on that other job. Two examples to illustrate what is happening. 1) a person works for 15 years managing an office and pays into social security, but decides to not work after the first fifteen years. They would get social security benefits based on what they paid into the system for 15 years. 2) second person works for 15 years making the exact same pay as the first as an office manager, paying the exact same amount into social security, but then decides to become a teacher which has a pension. Both individuals paid the exact amount into social security, but due to the windfall provision, the teacher would collect as little as 1/3rd of what person 1 will get in social security every month, because the teacher’s calculation is reduced because they get a pension. Obviously both individuals did not work the full amount to collect full social security benefits, but the teacher should not have theirs reduced even further because they decided to go into public service.

It only affects people who have paid into both social security and their pension. If someone didn't pay into social security and only paid into a pension, then that person still will not be eligible for social security benefits. Nobody's getting a free ride with this bill. It just means those of us who paid into both can receive benefits based on what we paid in instead of continuing to have what we paid into social security stolen by the government.

Always thought that when I got to the age of 65 I would get my retirement, cause that is what I was told but when I went to social security and ask for it I was told that I was already reviving my retirement that it was already included in my check. That I would not be getting the retirement. So I was started on a low income and I was told that I would receive my retirement at the age of 65. How is that , that I was getting it when my check is still the same. And that it was included in my check. So was I getting retirement since I was 52 , no that is not true.

I haven't heard anyone address what WEP did and what this bill will undo. Workers who had low income over their lifetime get their Social Security benefits adjusted higher and receive 90% of their Average Income Monthly Earnings. Someone who's earnings are artificially lower because of participation in another retirement system don't get the 90% but their benefit is reduced to 32% of their Average Income Monthly Earnings. Even though I think the bill should be passed.

This only helps the people who worked government jobs with their pension will now get the money they paid into SS. It will also short the life of SS for those who didn’t.

I worked almost every day on my off days so I would have social security and Medicare. It was a real shock when I applied for social security and was told almost $1200.00 a month. Then he told me I see you were a firefighter. That changed my benefit to a little over $300.00 and after Medicare came out I received $125.00.

Not exactly. This video doesn't tell the whole story. This bill won't benefit those who've only worked in the public sector. This bill affects those of us who have worked in both the private and public sectors. We pay in massive amounts to social security in one job and then pay in massive amounts towards our pension in the other job. In the end, we only receive the pension and lose everything we've paid into social security. I've paid my share into social security but get zero in return for it. This sucks most when you consider people who work 20 years in retail (and get nothing back for all the social security paid in) and then 10 years in a public job (amounting to about 1/3 of what other people get who stay in one sector or the other for the whole 30 years).

I paid into my pension for 30 years. So it wasn't just paid for by tax payers. Also, I worked a separate job outside of my government job and have over 40 quarters in of paying into Social Security, so I'm eligible for benefits. I am still paying into Social Security. If I pay Social Security taxes on 100% of my income, why should I only get 30% of my Social Security? That's like going to the grocery and buying a cart of food and being told I can only keep a third of it after paying for the full cart.

I worked in the private sector from age 15 to approximately 30. Then I worked PT in the public sector, where they didn’t take out social security. Folks like myself, are heavily impacted: smaller public pension, and a reduced social security benefit. Not exactly raking in the big bucks if you get my drift!

SS Fairness, the actual bill, HR 82 addresses the WEP repeal. The WEP law revokes earned qualified Social Security (SS) away from just firemen, policemen, teachers, servants, since 1983. To be fair, it should revoke SS from ALL citizens who earned SS from many years work and then also earned a pension from many years work. The WEP should apply to no citizen or every citizen, including congress.

The rest of the people aren't punished for the type of job they had though. For example I worked for federal govt for over 20 yrs and paid into social security fully. When I suddenly became disabled they cut my social security by my pension, almost half. It's a terrible thing. I hope this passes so I can receive my full benefits i worked for(30, yrs). It would mean $1000 more a month and not wondering if i have enough for gas,dr bills etc.
