Tanka in WWI were seen as support for infantry, so when designing the tank they thought it didn't make sense for it to go fast. They thought it only needed to go as fast as the infantry so that it could give cover and mobile machine gun fire
Come on now, Bovington is only so big... LOL! But yeah, that would have been great; I just can't believe they haven't at least built a running replica of one, like the WW1 British tank. It would be a big attraction for fans and revenue.
They probably would not have been able to drive it around since the Maus was prone to have issues really quickly (such as engine failures, tracks breaking down easily, etc).
@@So4ny_Balesh Yes. We know all about the T-34/76. The Tank Museum does not own one. The example it does have, is on loan from Finland, who captured it during the Winter War against the USSR. This is explained in their video about the tank.

I havent managed to attend one of these for some time but would definitely recommend it to anyone. You do get to ride in some including other types of military vehicles. Even my wife who is no tank fan enjoyed our visits.
Very cool to see the Bovington vehicles go around like this, such beautiful sound too, and such majestic metal beasts, a real feat of human engineering to get things that massive moving, and thinking up such machines in the first place. Bit disappointed the British Heavy Tank Mark ??? shown on the thumbnail wasn't driving though (it's my favourite tank design family, and the reason I clicked on this video) but it's cool to see the A7V replica out driving, it's definitely menacing - Like a medieval fortress suddenly sprouting legs!
When I was in the US Army, 1988-2006, I was lucky enough to be able to drive the 577, 113, 88, Abrams and Bradley and M60 Patton and lots of wheeled vehicles as well. Military vehicles are awesome machines.

Agreed. the M103 is a gorgeous heavy tank. I believe that this is also the last running M103 in the world as well, which makes it even better. besides that fact, I honestly have a thing for them Shermans. It's always good to see those driving around.
I had this idea years back called "TANK PRIX" were tank crews from all over the world compete , winner gets gold 2nd silver, 3rd bronze also winner gets to carry torchlight and parade through capital city of every nation it competed against, it could work. Imagine, lynx ,leopard, adrams all full throttle on a track cuttin corners rolling cause of de-track what a show while racing against each other they can fire dummy flash bangs.

Sadly, there aren't any original complete ones. There is a reproduction German one in the thumb nail, the one that looks like a box. There is one British mark 5 (I think) land crawler being refurbished and one reproduction that runs, that guy Martin made. There isn't much aside from that, most were, melted down for scrap after ww1 or are buried in pieces in france and the likes.

It's more in the "tradition" of Panther.
The turrent with the vertical sides kind of has the "castle" look of the old World War Two Tiger.
