I see a lot of comment like “sad old man” but this is a great song still done well by a guy that actually tried to save the world 40 years ago. I think it is a good performance by a guy that I respect, especially in 2025 where fuckwads are taking over the world.
Absolute legend of a man. Think what he's done for charity over the years and the sad things he's had to deal with family wise. Also remember he is 73yrs old now so dont expect the voice he had in the 70s 😢
This is the one that got me into music, a 6 year old kid, around the same time, Slade blondie queen and bowie were regulars on top of the pops. We were so spoiled
I always think of Brenda Spencer when l hear this song, her daddy bought her a gun for Christmas " Bad Idea to buy a kid a gun" then she shoots at the other kids. Tragic. It's reported that she liked this song about her, that it made Bob sick. Brenda is still in prison, she was just a kid, wot a wasted life.
Man some very nasty comments here. I’m guessing you are all better than him. Or at least you think you are. But sadly you don’t have his resume and probably just get off thinking you are better.
Damn. I played in American Punk bands, 1985 or so. We're all getting so old. Buried Jimmy Carter Today, Geldof is another who gives a damn about people. Go Brightly, brother. Also, let us remember the victims of the crazy B***h that inspired this song, back in '79. BTW, she's still unrepentant, and still, to this day, in prison.
This is really a great song about a 1979 school shooting where two were killed and nine injured, not sure it’s a song for a New Year’s Eve party, and not the kind of song to dance and raise your glasses to. What were they thinking? Not much obviously.
Wrong RAT TRAP NO1 for 2 weeks kicked olivia newton john and dancing boy Travolta off the NO1 SPOT. Plus too nany to mention. Lookin after no1, TONIC FOR THE TROOPS BOOMTOWN RATS. THE FINE ART OF SURFACING GOLD SILVER FKN PLATINUM RECORDS. BOB 71 N STILL CUTTIN IT.. WHAT YOUSE ALL DOIN NO1
Christ his vocal was appalling , he couldn't sing anyway , just a band wanting to be "punk" who got lucky with a great song. However listening to him sing makes me cringe and wince. Great song , appalling singing , it's embarrassing people saying "great performance" , that's just ridiculous, it's was dreadful, even fans know it even if they are at pains to admit it.
@ronanportley4409 😂😂😂😂😂 I've heard plenty of 73 year olds belt out a decent tune , his age has nothing to do with it , he couldn't sing in his prime , this was appalling, his voice was dreadful , he hit none of the right notes no matter the order. I see right through insincere people who will swear blind that was a good performance. Its a great song , it's a shame this band were the ones to have it. He isn't a singer , he is just an old wannabe punk front man of an unimportant group from the 70s with a lucky song.
@steve10 he's not " plenty of 73year olds" , he's Bob Geldof and his age has everything to do with it. Listen to how Paul McCartney sounds now compared to when he was younger, Elton John the same- age affects the performance.
💯💯💯💯 He will have been paid handsomely for his "charity" work believe me , the Royalties from one hit doesn't keep you a millionaire. People refuse to believe charities are still run like a business , people still get paid , he might look like he doesn't, but he will have never been out of pocket doing his charitable work.
@@andyfield6854 I remember thinking in 1978 (years before live aid) that this new group, The Boomtown Rats sounded great. 'She's So Modern' was the song that did it. The drumming (I was 16, and learning to play drums) blew me away. By the time of Live Aid they'd had their day. In fact I have never even seen their Live Aid performance, and have no intention of doing so. If B G hadn't organized the whole thing, The Rats wouldn't even have been on the invite list; they were not a big name by then. But back in the day, for about 18 months they kicked ar.e. I likewise respect your opinion though.
Still performing the song with heart and soul, 45 years later… Props
What a legend. This song still gives me the chills. Thanks for uploading!
Bob always sings from the heart. Gave me goosebumps.
Yeah, it's his ego - thinks everyone's watching him. He's a prize prat and that's no lie
Is that what you called it 🤔
😂

Spot on mate 🙌
I love this song! ❤
"Tried to save the world" 😂
Bob will always be a fucking legend !
A proper party with a brilliant band ... fantastic !!

I thought he sounded brilliant.
Brilliant performance.

One of the great lyrics of our time.

I got excited, it's that simple.
GOD I love that man!
This is so good. So they are older, bfd.

I guess when that is the only song you have you still play it 40+ years later.
great song great group what more is there to say so true one of the greatest songs ever it sums up the world today!!!!!
They where the best act on the show that night
Not much competition
That wasn't hard. Worst new year Jooles Holland I have seen in the 12 years since I started having kids and can't go out anymore! 😂😂
I liked it
Great turn

I don't like Tuesdays either.
Tuesday is just Mondays ugly sister…
I don't like any day of the week. Before I was born it was great. None of this life crap.
Gd performance.
Shocking
The hair is nice though.

Oh dear!
The lad still looks cool as fuck. ❤️👍🏽👍☘️ The Rats were the second band from ROI to break the UK. Clancy bros did America.
For Joe O’Connor ❤️👍🏽👍☘️
not a patch on Live Aid performance
But not bad for a 73 year old, with a tight band and a classic song to boot.
@@LdevArt Geldof & his band were like 40 years YOUNGER!!!- get real will you and think out your comments before you make them in future.🤔💡

A lot of wrong

Bob Geldof is a legend forever. But "I don't like Monday" was the one and only big song by Boomtown Rats. 🙂

maybe retire bob and count your money ?
You should "retire" your stupid UN thought out comments as it was a very decent performance for a 73 year old.

@@Tom-d7e7m he is nearly 80 years old. 74/75.

@ronanportley4409 nothing embarrassing about his comment, Geldof is a shit live singer always has been nothing to do with age.
