And I'm honestly not trying to be a killjoy here, but it still feels a little weird to see people smiling and singing along 'happily'; the song was written about a real life shooting incident in the US - and all these years later still captures the messed-up angry gun mentality that pervades America . . . "According to Geldof, he wrote the song after reading a telex report[8] at Georgia State University's campus radio station, WRAS, on the shooting spree of 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer, who fired at children in a school playground at Grover Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, California, on 29 January 1979, killing two adults and injuring eight children and one police officer. Spencer showed no remorse for her crime; her explanation for her actions was "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day".

Christ his vocal was appalling , he couldn't sing anyway , just a band wanting to be "punk" who got lucky with a great song. However listening to him sing makes me cringe and wince. Great song , appalling singing , it's embarrassing people saying "great performance" , that's just ridiculous, it's was dreadful, even fans know it even if they are at pains to admit it.
