  • Huntsman Power and Race Walking a serious sport among Seniors
ST. GEORGE, Utah - (10/16/19) It’s a sport that’s not taken lightly among it’s competitors. Power Walking and Race Walking are worldwide sporting events that are extremely competitive. For those who don’t think you have to train for them,…think again!
The Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George invites competitors in both sports in the 1500 meter, 3k and 5k events.
As a senior who walks a lot myself, but has never trained for this event, I soon found out just how difficult it really is.
I now have the utmost respect for those who treat these events as the trying sports they are!

I've been power walking for thirty years as of this year (2021). I walk four miles, two miles up the road, two miles back. Best time is 37 minutes, slowest time (wearing heavy boots and heavy winter clothes when the road is slippery, snowy and conditions are bad) 43 minutes. I'm 67 but I don't really know how I'm doing for my age.

Kestrel, if you are truly walking FOUR miles in 37 minutes, that's a FANTASTIC consistent 9:15 pace. As a powerwalker, male or female, this would make you one of the very best in the country.
Am 66 and participated as a powerwalker at the Huntsman Games in 2022 and at senior Nationals earlier in May. I walked 3000 meters in 21:07 (and took a bronze medal) in the men's 65-69 age-group. Had you competed, walking a 9:15 mile, you'd have easily won the overall gold medal for women and would have been in the top-3 for ALL the walkers.

If you could effectively power walk, you'd get to it FASTER with less chance of "leakage".
