Reportedly the big sunglasses were used on purpose. The writers and producers were concerned about Dynasty's ascendency so they wanted to glamorize DALLAS more. One might notice that the wardrobes of the actors & actresses as well as the furniture was different this season.

I don’t know what I would do if I was Bobby’s wife and he was shot in the hospital in pain. I would be at his side every day at the hospital then when he came home because we would have a child to raise too together, I would be true and faithful to my husband Bobby Ewing
He wasn’t married at the time he was shot. However, staying by his side could arouse suspicion. Sue Ellen stayed by JR’s when he was shot, and she was initially arrested for the shooting.

I agree. In my opinion, the "Who Shot Bobby" mystery was the last great storyline of DALLAS.
When Bobby gets out of the hospital, returns to the office, talks with an apologetic J.R. about the bugging of the office phones, and says let's get something to eat, the series could have ended right then and there.
But after that, Jaime Ewing shows up, ushering in a host of new characters (Jack, April, Michelle, Callie, James) played by decent actors but who were too much of a break from the early characters who left (Pam, Sue Ellen, Lucy, Ray, Donna).
For a guy in Bobby's condition he sounds healthy looks groomed. Get rid of the glasses
