    I heard good things, and discussed the brand with an expert.
    i was upgraded from the 8" to the 12" and convinced I would ace the low end.
    1st unit arrived DOA, and 2nd unit lasted about an hour at 25%. No where even close to peaking. I was in my 10x10 office so 25% was more than loud enough, then after an hour of mixing the tweeters gone.
    Controller was set to 0DB and bass was set on controller to 40% because I have a sub hooked up behind the speakers.
    In 15 years, we've never blown a speaker. To have 2 of these fail in a week was alarming.
    Can't recommend Alto brand.
    A great sounding speaker when it worked however.

    • @expertisland
      @expertisland  5 лет назад +8

      Where did you get the speakers because getting a DOA and the second one going right away? Just does not happen ( 500+) altos sold and I can count on one hand how many times I have had a problem with New speakers. Not saying it didn't happen just like WOW.

  • @waynewayne3709
    @waynewayne3709 5 лет назад +4

    Hello,
    From the sound demo and the size of the unit, it offered clear sound.
    Even add a sub and wow even better sound.
    Yep it's time to upgrade to lighter speakers.
    The only thing, class d systems are harder to repair and as a tech I've seen many a board changed out just for fast turn around.
    On the plus side of class d speakers yeah they are much lighter for transporting them about as older powered speaker with heavy transformer chassis added weight.

      For Sure I would look at getting the TS412 over the others, if you said you needed to push them for midsize louder set up maybe spend more. but the sound quality is to the same at 70 to 80dB

They sound great, but now I'm ready to go with a pair of powered speakers so I don't have to haul a separate amp. How do these Altos compare with my old Yamahas? That’s a good question. 15’s typically have more punch but they get muddy. 12’s are tight and if you set them on flat, you can tweak the low end from your mixer. That’s what I did and they sound great. Just don’t overdo it. That’s how and why so many people have blown them up. Hope this helps.

    You mentioned on your video if you're doing a larger room then you could step up to something else. What is the something else? I auditioned a version of these with the 15" drivers. I do want more bass but their salesman was trying to sell me on the 12" version of everything he was selling. I liked the EV Electro Voice speakers the best but they are more expensive and there seems to be an awful lot of used ones and demo units on sale on Ebay. I'm thinking that they have an issue. So, is the Alto 312 better or is the 15" version worth the step up? I'm wanting them to do wedding DJing mainly. I also would like to avoid having to get a separate sub even though I know that is an option. I think I am sold on ALTO, but I just want to know what model I should get. I was going to buy new Mackie Thump 15Aa's but the salesman hated them and when I auditioned them, I hated them too. They sound so compressed. Maybe it's an issue with only the new version of the Mackie Thumps, but I thought the EV's sounded the best, followed by ALTO, and then the Mackie's in last place. The Mackie package deals make it hard to turn down on Ebay, but I like the sound of the ALTO. So, ALTO 12 or ALTO 15?

    • @djjammindave
      @djjammindave 4 года назад +1

      JUST GET YOURSELF 15" AND COMPLIMENT THEM WITH A SUBWOOFER, I RECOMMEND A BEHRINGER SUB, FOR THE MONEY. NOW, YOU'LL BE ROCKING ! TRUST ME. I USED TO HAVE EV'S 15" WHEN THEY GET HOT, THEY SHUT DOWN. TRUST ME...IS A SAFETY FEATURE...

    • @tedh1979
      @tedh1979 4 года назад

      @@djjammindave I did my research and there are tons of problems with the newest Alto model blowing both tweeters and woofers. Also did my research and found a lot of problems on the EVs. Bottom line, they aren't my in home speakers so I went with Mackie. They sound better than at the store, but I'm not in love with them. Yet they can fill a large room without shutting down. Next step is a subwoofer and I'll look into the Behringer you recommended.

    Hi excellent review, as are all the reviews you do, my system for the last 15 or 16 years is the Dynacord Powermax P5, which was used for 4 and 5 piece band and discos, always performed without any issue,
    So now band is no more and I'm now Oneman and sometimes 2 piece band, mostly oneman, keyboards, guitar, backing tracks, P5 needs to move on and it's now the reason why I'm constantly watching all your reviews, well explained and demo, Alto is a name that's new to me, and seriously considering this speaker and, but 12" or 15" this I need to put to bed once and for all,
    I'm told 12" is the best for vocal clarity but would mean have to add 18" subs, in your own professional opinion what would your choice be to match or even better the P5 rig,
    Alto is not as expensive as other high end speakers, but do this mean cheap components are used, or is it more like the
    Volkswagen and the Mercedes,
    its really hard to decide what to go for, hope you can advise,
    maybe 2 Alto TS 315's
    and no need for subs, I honestly don't know 🤔

      my venues would be big lounge bars holding about 100 people and hotels where I could have a thing up to 300 people,
      last night I brought in my P5 tops to a bar full of noisy young teens and left the bins in the van, the bar was low ceiling mostly wood furnishings , including wooden floor, size wise roughly 50 ' X 30' feet ,
      the tops alone did the job, but I could see the system amp pm2600 go into Amber after 2 hours, so I suppose I should have taken the bins in also,
      But as I was saying the system is getting on in age now, and I'm looking for something to better this P5 rig, have my vocals clean crisp and cut through the mix without issue, and have a good low end also, I hope you can make sense of all the above and any advice you can give with regards my request I greatly appreciate 😉

There's just one thing bothering me: The passive cooling technology, which is heating up the terminals on the backside of my TS 315s. When i'm playing out during summer in evironments with 30 degrees C, the terminals are really getting more than warm. Are they really built to last under conditions like those? But this does not work for consumer brand like Ion, Pyle, Gemini, Rockville, Acoustic Audio. I just call them internet watts. Ted H ok, what didn't you like about them? I love the balanced top and bottom frequencies and the midrange hump because they make the vocal cut through very clearly. The sound is very clean and modern and even around the whole room. If you know how to eq a system properly and avoid all the onboard digital processing, they can be made to sound great! In fact, I have never had so much positive feedback from people about how good my speakers sound. I use them with a 4 piece rock band. I also have a pair of ip3000s but I think the 2000s are better, especially with another sub added.

Having to add a huge external sub defeats the whole purpose of having them and yes you're right, they do lack bass and therefore DO need another sub which defeats the purpose for having them which is the SAME reason the other DJ's didn't like them and we all returned them. I've got a couple of questions, I hope you can help:
    1. I'm looking for a pair of powered speakers to work as a pa for band practice. We practice at fairly low levels, but use a full stack of bass at 500watts, and a half stack for guitar at 120watts. We'd like this pa system to pull double duty and be used for doing small gigs at volume. Would two of these 12's be enough to handle a rock band at a 50-150 1,500 sqft venue? We run electronic drums, so the pa is for that and vocals, and some guitar just to get a wider/more balanced image. Would these Altos handle these duties?
    2. I'm also looking for a pair of powered speakers for our church. We're moving into a new building, 1,600 sqft, and have budget for a sound system. We'd be using the sound system for live singing, guitar, and some percussion. This building only seats about 70 people. We'd also like this pa to pull double duty and work also outdoors at some events that we do. With these speakers we are looking at sound quality and durability. We have budget now, but if these speakers die a year or two out, we don't have budget then to replace them. Would these Altos handle these duties?
    Sorry for the long question, really appreciate your speaker reviews!
