On an MGB, pulling the heater box and replacing the bottom seal on the windshield are almost worst than pulling the engine. Thanks for posting the video!👍

NO kidding. I replaced the rubber seal on my '74 and messed it up at the end. I couldn't bring myself to pull the windshield and start over. Needless to say, I have a slight leak. Maybe I'll make a video of fixing it. The good news is, the heater works great. Check out the heater box video in "64 MGB restoration, Love 1.0"

Thanks for your comment. I am very happy when someone likes what I do. I am also happy you enjoy the humorous side. The next video will be about the Spitfire, followed by a walk around on the MGTF and the story of how I ended up with a 1964 MGB. Thank you and ask your friends to subscribe.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching and learned a lot of tips along the way which will come in handy when I do mine. Loved the “should have bought a Miata” shamful thought at the low point of the job! Thanks for taking the time to create and post the video.

Thank you. Currently working on removing the Glass and Dash. Could not get the passenger side door open...and then trying to do the video at the same time...this will take weeks. In the meantime, check out the Mercedes 380 Video. The car was free. His wife wanted it out of the driveway. Glad I could help. Talk more soon,

Love your reply!! Thank you for watching. Now that I'm retired, whenever I do a project on the car I make a video of. Let me know if there is anything you want me to work on. I plan on rebuilding the rear differential in the MGB,. That ought to be a mess, I mean interesting. I hope you subscribed, more videos to come.
      Cheers.

Really great video. I'm relieved the green wire trick worked to pull the cable back through the grommet. From the horror stories I've heard, that cable is the worst part of it, and no way I want to monkey with it on the heater core side.

I did not want to pull the whole unit mostly because it is so hard to get the gaskets and all the plumbing running over it back in place. I spent a lot of time just trying to remove the core, but as I learned (the hard way) it was easier in the long run to pull the unit, put it on the bench and fix it and replace it as a unit. I don't pre produce these videos so viewers can see all the problems that can turn a 2 hour job into a three day ordeal. Thank you so much for the comment. I am currently working on the restoration of a 1964 MGB. Complete tear down. Videos are on the way.
      Cheers,

@@Robertsbritishcars 3 days lol. I started putting LEDs in my gauges November first, that turned into replace the gauge bezels, then I got the bright idea to replace the carpet while the console was out, followed by let's reupholster the crumbling seats... I'll be able to drive it tomorrow for the first time since November.

I am so thrilled to know someone watches. Thank you. You are right, they were not in the box when I took it apart. I can't remember which car I had, that had them. I ordered them from Moss, here is the link.
      mossmotors.com/280-190-grommet
The grommets help keep the air from seeping out of the heater box.
Also, I may suggest to watch part one of the Restoration of the '64 MGB, Love 1.0. I assemble another heater box. I would appreciate your opinion.
      Hope I was helpful.
      Cheers,

Heh. "Why didn't I buy a Miata". Been asking myself that a few times whilst in the middle of restoring an '80 MGB. Heater core doesn't leak (that I can see at least) but very little air flow through it with fan on hi. Probably plugged with dirt and mouse crap...car sitting in a storage facility (barn?) for several years. Let the adventure begin!

This is gonna sound stupid, but what the heck, I do stupid stuff every day!! I do not remember which car it was but I was not getting much air out of my vents. Especially the defroster. It turned out not to have anything to do with the fan motor, It was that the heater box and tubing were leaking air. The fan was blowing, but the air was coming out everywhere except where it was supposed to.
Not saying that this is your problem......but maybe????
As you said.. "Let the adventure begin!"
      Cheers,
      Bob

@@Robertsbritishcars Yes! I come from an HVAC background, so "air" is my thing but this little heat box is FAR from being a state-of-the-art air handler. I have it all apart now, powered up the OEM fan and it's pretty anemic, at both speeds. Shaft isn't turning freely. Putting in a larger blower motor. Will seal the box at reassembly. RTV for the win.

@@Robertsbritishcars Update. Got the box out, installed a larger blower (Rockauto saves the day), hat to open up the hole so it can be removed without taking out the entire heater...if ever needed. Installed two relays (Hi and Low speed, coils switched by panel switch) to carry motor current instead of pulling current through panel switch. Installed a resistor module for the low speed function...3.5 ohm cut fan speed about in half from full speed. Cleaned up box, leak checked and washed heater core, painted box, all back together now. Need some weather stripping for firewall interface and lower damper seal then back into the car it goes. My '80 doesn't have a small hole for the control cable, just a large oval hole. Or maybe I'm not seeing it yet. This should be...fun.
