I spent $12 for a .pdf sunbonnet pattern. Opened it up in Windows reader. Taped pieces together, cut & sewed it - the fit was horrible! I thought it was a pattern flaw. Never thought it might be skewed by the .pdf reader program! Thanks for another informative video. I see your patterns are as user friendly as your video tuts. Excellent! I love this channel!
This is helpful but what if i want to make a bag wider in depth? I have a bag I like but its only 3 inches wide in depth. i like the height and the width, just not the depth!
Just make the box corner wider - so if you want it 4" wide rather than 3" just stitch the box corner so the length of the little seam across the corner is 4". If you want to keep the height, add half of that increase to both front and back pattern pieces, so in this case 1/2" on each. Thank you this is very helpful. I want to increase my bag size and have a gusset that joins the front to the back like a backpack. Will the gusset be the correct size? If not how would I measure the rounded corners to be sure the gusset is correct?? Thank you.
If you print everything (including your gusset) at your new larger chosen size it will all still fit together in the same relationship as it did in the original size :)
Diane, I'm getting your Beanie Baggett pattern but I'd like to know where to buy the beautiful black textured fabric you share on youtube. I also clicked on the link where to buy some of the colorful fabric but they are available.
Question please: When REDUCING are the seam allowances effected? If I shrink a pattern with an included 3/8” seam allowance, won’t the smaller pattern hv a narrower seam and how do we figure that? Thank you. EDIT: I apologize if this has already been asked but I don’t see it in the comments. Thanks again.
Yes It will shrink the seam allowance by the same percentage too - but its an incredibly small amount if you are just adjusting the size by a small amount (10-20%) - 20% reduction in a 3/8" seam allowance is just 5/64" - probably less than any SA user error in the original size pattern, so no need to worry about it unless you are literally increasing or decreasing the size by a huge amount.
Great tutorial. I thought I knew Adobe pretty well but don't think I every had a need for the Poster function. You explain so clearly too. Perfect for enlarging the large Goodie & Gift bag just a wee bit for a book. Thank you thank you!! P.S. hope you are feeling better.

Thank you so much for showing us how to increase and decrease patterns. It has really been helpful. The only thing I need to know now is, that once you resize, do you still use the original seam allowance as stated in the pattern?
You should really increase your seam allowance by the same % - so for example with a 20% increase you should take a 1.2cm SA rather than 1cm, but if you are just increasing by small percentages up to 20% it won't make a huge difference, but do amend if over 20%

No matter what i choose in Adobe, the text/columns prints wrong, too small, with a super large right margin (even if all margins are equal at 25 mm) and even if the preview shows FULL text & full columns nicely filling out the entire page. 100% or Actual size or Fit. Nothing works. Really annoying. At and this point, i wonder if it is a conflict with the actual printer settings.
why does it take so long to open a large blueprint files i download from Dropbox? is there a program i can use to be able to view the blueprints with out buffering and freezing?

It's also very nice to know I don't need to worry about all that info filled away I can relax and know it's easy to access when needed. Let's face it the ol filing cabinet is rather packed full at this stage of the game. Hahaha Haha being OCD about remembering everything for everyone didn't help in the skeem of things 🤣😂
This was very helpful, thank you. The only real problem I'm having is with HP, because of course HP messed something up. I had to scale a cosplay prop by 111% because I am significantly taller than the character, but HP not only didn't scale, not only didn't keep the cut lines, but has gaps towards the edge of the pages so it didn't even print the full pattern. The fact I have to download an unrelated application just to scale is already really annoying, but then HP resets it on top of that? Ugh.
Always best to just open any pattern in Adobe reader - its the standard for scaling things correctly and should normally come pre-installed on all devices :)
Sorry, I really don't know the answer to that one. I would put it into Photoshop or Illustrator, but I don't know if you can do it on a basic Adobe reader program

How strange, its a standard Wordpress platform, but you can purchase my patterns from Etsy too if any problems: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/SpencerOggPatterns
I've been looking for patterns to make plushies woth because I always wanted to try my hand at it, but I wanted a bigger sized plushie pattern which seems to be non-existent. I will try this method when I do find one I like! I just hope it also works with plushies in general.
The same method will work for any PDF pattern - go for it xx
Thank you so much for this tutorial on increase and decrease! I don't understand why I never thought about doing it this way earlier, I have always done it on the copier, and that is not easy, I can promis you, that's a lot of adjustments ;) So thank you once more, love your videos
You're so welcome!
@@SpencerOgg a bit random, but you don't know how happy that you wrote 'you're', not 'your'.. considering the world's problems, this annoys me far more than it should..😬😬😬
By far the best video I have watched on how to print PDF files. Thank you so much. It will save me a ton of paper and ink!

Very useful, thanks Diane. I've used your print resize option before but wouldn't have known what to do if it took more than one page. Your tutorials are always so clear 😊
Glad it was helpful!
I do NOT have a properties box, so how do I go in and change the paper size??
Did you download Adobe Reader or are you looking at your generic printer options box? - check the links under my video for the free download from Adobe, you open the PDF into adobe and print from there Sherry
Thanks so much for help be be able to increase the sizes on any pattern
Happy to help!
Help. I do not own a computer but have an Apple iPad. Having trouble downloading proper size templates.
You do need to open in Adobe Reader to be able to size patterns correctly, you can download for free - (including for ipads) at get.adobe.com/reader/
I think it's only phones that the sizing function isnt available.
@@SpencerOgg Thank you, Diane.
Thank you Diane. Much appreciated.

Thank you so much for doing this video. It is just what I needed and you explained it so well !
You are so welcome!
Can I print from tablet at all or do I need to buy a laptop ????🙂
You can Lucy, but just make sure you use Adobe to open and double check the test square measures correctly before you cut your fabric.
@@SpencerOgg thank you so much sweetheart 🙂
You are very appreciated. Thank you for all your helpful videos.
You are very welcome
You have taught me SO MUCH in this video. Thanks a million!!
You are so welcome!
Difficult to help without seeing it, but try updating your print drivers and Adobe download
why does it take so long to open a large blueprint files i download from Dropbox? is there a program i can use to be able to view the blueprints with out buffering and freezing?
Sorry I can't help, I'm not an expert in that - ask me a sewing question and I might do better 😊
Thank you, great help. I had no idea how to do all that.😀
Glad I could help!

Excellent tutorial 👍. Thanks so much!

Has anyone used this to resize or enlarge a clothing pattern? I need to make a kids dress just a bit larger without getting a funky result on the actual fabric item.
This works for any PDF document Isabel xx
Great video many thanks
Very welcome

You're so welcome!
MERCY FORGIVE ME PLEASE! I MENT TO SAY ""THANK😍 YOU ""FIRST N FOREMOST 😊
Lol I sure wish I had this wonderfully done tute.. YEARS AGO!! LOLOL I've learned these things done time ago but I've been recovering from a B.I. and there are days I simply cannot connect with the correct file in the ol filing cabinet 🤯 if you know what I mean soo I'm very excited to have a blessing like this stashed away for a quick reference when I cannot pull mine up.
😂 None of us remember everything Kathleen, I have lists and notes for everything ♥️
Diane, Thank u Thank u for this tutorial. U are awesome. I am forever grateful. Love n hugs 🥇
Aww, thanks Sonia xxx
Thank you!!! Very important information.
Glad it was helpful!
Ugh.
Always best to just open any pattern in Adobe reader - its the standard for scaling things correctly and should normally come pre-installed on all devices :)
how do you change the resolution of a pdf file to 300?
Sorry, I really don't know the answer to that one. I would put it into Photoshop or Illustrator, but I don't know if you can do it on a basic Adobe reader program
@@SpencerOgg Ok thanks!
Excellent! Thank you
