    I used to work as the receiver in a supermarket. I retired at the beginning of 2020--so I retired two and a half months before Covid hit. We had some odd supply-chain issues even before that. I noticed that the section on our shelves tagged for Cherry Crush was always filled with Orange Crush. No other store in my town had had Cherry Crush in stock for several years, either. One time I asked the Pepsi driver why we never got Cherry Crush any more. His response was, "I dunno! The warehouse is full of it!" Go figure.

    Hi Mark, i live in NC and here they call liquor stores 'ABC' stores. I don't drink much more than a shot of something in a coffee or green tea but it's AMAZING how much better of a deal is available when I buy a big bottle for a few dollars more than a smaller one when you calculate the % extra in a big bottle for the smaller increase in price. Yes the Pepsi VS Coke 'war' is like the Yankees and Red Sox competition!

    Great job Mark. Store looks good inside and out. As I’ve stated before I have over 30 years in retail grocery experience. One of the most important things I’ve learned is to be consistent. Your customers notice that. That’s how you build customer loyalty. Consistently have all of your core items like milk, bread, etc. even if it means a few perishable items go out of date occasionally. You should be able to get credit from the vendor for out of date items. The only way to reduce out of date items is by faithfully rotating every time a restock is done. EVERY SINGLE TIME! I’m aware it takes an extra few minutes but it is worth it. If you are consistently out of the basic items customers will take note and eventually lose faith and move on to another establishment. You have a gold mine in that little town. Keep up the good work. I always look forward to your videos on the liquor and convenience store.

    Killing demand does help reduce inflation by sending the share for small businesses to large retailers who get even better discounts.
    It destroys small businesses but makes Walmart a juggernaut.

    • @investfourmore

    Have you looked into those drive-up Ice Vending Machines? You'd have to supply it water, but they make them that freeze and bag their own ice and dispense it when the customer pays for it via card swiper or wait for it, coin-op. Be good in the empty lot. You might be able to lease one versus buy. Just a thought.

    The liquor store videos are always my favorite. This was the first one I remember in a while where you didn't talk about alternative ideas for the place. I know you mentioned your manager wanted to add gas pumps but that's not an idea you like. Wasn't there an idea for a coin laundry? A coffee stand? I forget the other some of the other ideas for monetize some of the unused space.

  • @jamesbradford8574
    @jamesbradford8574 Год назад

    An idea for getting the bigger discounts for a smaller liquor store. You've probably thought about this, but here goes anyway. Start four or five more small ones, from scratch -- using the existing one as a template, and have a warehouse somewhere for receiving the larger shipments, which would then be distributed out to the stores by your personnel. Promote your manager to district manager to handle all of this.
