Islam has been in China for 1,400 years.
China has always been a multi-faith country, people worship different spirits and deities. And no one cares what others worship.

Chinese Muslims are really amazing. I saw in interviews in Malaysian that young muslim girls that most of them don't wear headscarves, and youth also try to eat pork. This is not common, but it seems that young Muslims in big cities are very different from those in other places.

One little mistake, you can be government official with religion, you just can't join cpc with religion. They are not equal. Not all of the government officials are cpc members. Also, you can be a people's representative with religion since they represent all people with different classes/labels.

Yes, and to add to that, in ethnic autonomy regions, like Xinjiang, Xizang, Nei Mongol, etc, there is a requirement at all levels of government that the number of ethnic officials has to reach a certain percentage. Normally, the government's highest leader in those regions is from the local ethnic, while the party leader is not.

The Communist Party is materialist, which means they do not believe in any form of religious theology. If you have religious beliefs, you cannot be accepted as a member of the Communist Party because it implies that you do not fully adhere to the Party's ideology.

I fully support freedom of religion, but I just need to point out one error. The "war" 200 years ago mentioned in the video was a genocide initiated by Chinese Muslims against the Han people (the majority race in China). In the province you visited, ShaanXi, more than 5 million Han people died in the rebellion. This history was erased from textbooks nowadays, as the government tried to promote equity and peace between ethnic groups. I don't want to stir up any hatred by bringing this up, but want to remind people the great price we have paid for the peace today.

More than 100 years ago, at the end of the Qing dynasty, China's last feudal dynasty, its national strength was weak, some Muslims in western China, funded by the Tsarist Russia, began to rebel, killing millions of civilians, the Qing government sent troops to suppress the rebellion, and some of the rebels fled to Kazakhstan. Of course, now all ethnic groups in China are equal and live and work happily.

one thing you have to know about china is there have been countless rebellions by all kinds of factions you can think of. some of it is religion, some of it political, some just simple feudal warlord origin. imagine what would your home country do if there was a mass rebellion. it's the same in any country - there's going to be conflict. chinese society is somewhat live and let live. it's tolerant towards everyone as long as you don't make trouble. islam came to china long after many centuries since the start of the silk road and settled in china. unlike the west with its many religious wars and crusades, there weren't issues until someone goes against the emperor or state in the case of today.
this is what happened in xinjiang when separatist extremists engaged in terrorist activity. these extremists even targeted moderate uyghurs since most are not historically strict muslim. examples are their wine culture and dress code which is much more moderate than the hui muslims you met so far. unlike west which likes to drop bombs, the government solution was to build up xinjiang's infrastructure and economy to eliminate poverty which has historically been the root of discontent. in china, minorities are actually given special privileges compared to ethnic han chinese. for example they weren't subject to the one child policy which is one reason why the uyghur population increased while han population decreased in the past few decades. they are also given free vocational training and easier entry into universities. if you compare xinjiang now to 30-40 years ago or even to neighboring countries, it's not even close. the standard of living is much higher as well as life expectancy.
even within muslim countries there have been separatist conflicts. there have been conflicts between muslim countries. you need to keep an open mind and realize nothing happens in a vacuum. most of the stuff you read in western media may have originally been based on a piece of fact, but twisted to be entirely propaganda fiction. compare to how you have been greeted and treated in china then go to the usa and see the difference.

This historical tragedy took place towards the end of Qing Dynasty from 1862 to 1873, and was often referrenced as "Hui Riot in ShanXi & GanSu" (陕甘回乱), causing horrendous deaths of 5 million in the Shanxi province and 15 million in the old Gansu province (now Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia).

In China, there are various religious freedoms, but at the same time, there is also the freedom not to believe in religion. Religion can be spread in religious places. You can see Taoist temples, mosques, churches, and monasteries on a street. Taoist priests, Muslims, Christians, and monks can also drink tea and play cards together, living in harmony. At the same time, various ethnic groups also coexist harmoniously. I myself am a Miao ethnic group, and my friends include Han (90%), Mongolian, Tibetan, Hui, Manchu, and Zhuang, because we are all Chinese. I am not a member of the CPC, and I am also an atheist. But I have Mongolian girlfriends who believe in Buddhism, and Hui girlfriends who believe in Islam from Xinjiang. We have also loved before, and the differences between ethnicity and religion are far smaller than the differences between individuals.
