For the thrill of the flight I’d prefer an f-22, f-15, even a f-16. They’re all build for the dogfight, and the first 2 are air superiority. F-35 is multi role like the f-16. Unlike the f16 though dogfighting was never its focus. Its tech is so advanced that if BVR is broken and the bandit sees you visually, you’ve already failed. It doesn’t mean the f-35 can’t win the dogfight, it just you or the tech already failed several times. The F-35 doesn’t have the top speed nor turn rate, nor AoA of any of these others. It’s at a disadvantage in the 1 circle and 2 circle fight. But it’s a titan among men beyond visual rage. Though the Radar cross section of the f-22 is better at, if memory serves, 0.001m to 0.05m according to most open source information. I’d be curious to know who gets seen first, who gets the first shot, they both carry, or will carry, generally the same BVR air to air missiles.
The F-35A Lightning II isn’t just loud, but in the flesh it’s single P&W F-135 afterburning turbofan engine also sounds the best imo, even compared to the twin P&W F-119 engines in the F-22 Raptor.

Since the 35's arrived at LN with the 495th, then with the 493d, seeing how these machines move is like an airshow every day I go. I was really against the 35s taking away my loved F-15C's, but now I love them to bits The F-35A pilot's live in a whole different world to us, and the sound of them taking off when standing anywhere close to the Runway bases fence makes the earth shake. 48th Air Wing Rock here in the UK. ❤
F-35s aren't spec'd to fly supersonic at sea level. Even if it could it wouldn't above highly populated Huntington Beach Ca. That was just water condensation.
I live about a mile from the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Arizona, where the F35B vertical take off version of these play daily. The sound depicted on this video cannot compare to the real deal. You think you're witnessing a moon launch. So cool. Once a year they put on a show with a single F35. But every other day four blast by. The thrust to weight ratio of those 43,000 lbs. lets this plane go vertical as shown here, but then come to a complete stop while maintaining the nose straight up. Totally awesome!
@@cylkbrunson transonic is not the same as supersonic. Transonic doesn't produce a sonic boom. Supersonic does. Vapor cones happen anytime there's a very low pressure zone over the aero surfaces. It's basically a mini cloud forming. It happens near the speed of sound. It's been illegal to break the Mach 1 barrier over land (or this close) since 1973. Though there is a neat trick with a certain platform (can't remember if it's F-16 or the SuperHornet) where if you're transonic with the speedbrakes deployed you can create a mini boom.
@urbanNegritude38 i wouldnt be surprised if it could do backflips at 300 knots man, the F22 is a beast. But I was talking more about how the F35s movements look like its in a game. The F22 is incredibly stable but the 35 looks even more so to me. How it stabilizes itself after the roll without any swaying is incredible.
When he graduated from West Point, my beloved brother entered the Air Force and trained as a fighter jet pilot, something he had wanted to do ever since he was little and our father fought in WW2 in the Army-Air Corps. He was indeed badass flying those fighters solo, and he had a lot of fun doing it. But I will tell you that what is REALLY badass is the job he ended up doing during his tour of duty in Viet Nam. During that war, we needed seasoned mature aircraft commanders to fly the biggest, slowest, least maneuverable planes in the war, the massive and ponderous C130 cargo planes, with their large crew of 17 young guys (all male during that war), flying in and out of small air stations throughout the country, delivering absolutely essential supplies, landing and taking off on dirt track airstrips pockmarked with bomb craters. My brother and his crew were among those heroes who relieved the siege of Khe Sanh, a marine base that became completely surrounded by Viet Cong troops. Planes could not even be landed. Instead, my brother had to fly a long slow aerial gauntlet of a descent between enemy controlled hills, trying to dodge constant crossfire, trying to find the most opportune place into which he could drop critically needed supplies where they could safely be retrieved by those on the ground under heavy fire. He always knew the plane would be shot up each trip because it was such a huge fat slow target. He constantly felt the weight of and responsibility for all the young lives on his plane and on the ground hanging in the balance, and it always felt like an unavoidable suicide mission to him. Whatever anyone may think of the United States’ presence in that war, this was his patriotic duty, it was what he had signed up for, it was what he had to do for the sake of the lives held in the balance, in the palm of his hand. He told me that he never stopped shaking during these runs, that he never knew if he would ever see his wife and four kids again, because god knows he lost a lot of his West Point classmates during this time, but he also knew that it was his job to be the best aircraft commander he could, that it was his and only his duty to take care of his men as best he could, to conceal his own fear as best he could if that is what it took to inspire the trust and confidence of his crew, so that he could take care of them. Given those circumstances, THAT is what I would call the ultimate bad ass aircraft piloting. I will never stop feeling boundless pride in what my brother and his compatriots did, little known aspects and recollections of that - or any - war. Today there are many families that remain intact to this day and which grew because of my brother’s care for the lives of the men he had responsibility for. That is the true meaning of West Point’s motto: Duty, Honor, Country. True courage is not doing something with blind bravery. It is persisting in doing what you must in the face of terrifying odds against you and yours, while you experience your own deeply felt terror. I am incessantly grateful to this day for what he did. Yes, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, Bronze and Silver Stars and clusters, and multiple unit citations with his crew, and he was fiercely proud of all his medals, but that’s not why he did it; most of all, he was proud of what he did for his country and of the love and respect he received from his men and their families. While he was flying one of his missions, the Viet Cong Tet Offensive opened up. For those who don’t know what that was - it consisted of concentrated simultaneous attacks by the Viet Cong on virtually every base and airfield in the entire country. While he was in the air that night, he said he could see the intermittent flashes and explosions in the dark on the ground far below for hundreds of miles in every direction. My brother and his crew experienced a race against the clock before they ran out of fuel while in the air, trying to find an open airfield where they could land that was not suddenly closed to aviation because it had come under attack. He told me that he could hear the engines of his great flying albatross sputtering dry and his propellers stopped turning upon his approach to the sixth - and last - airfield he tried, even as an attack on that field opened up on the ground below his aircraft. It is no simple matter to control and land a plane as huge and ponderous as a C130 with no fuel or power to the propellers, relying only on the loft under the wings, guts, etc and skill as a pilot. But he did it. So maybe THAT is the ultimate badass piloting. My brother lived to the ripe old age of 93. He deserved every single scrap of happiness and joy and respect and love he experienced in his life, right up to the end. He lost many classmates to the war. They were badass too, just not as fortunate. It is after all just a roll of the dice. THESE WERE/ARE NOT SUCKERS AND LOSERS. THEY ARE OUR MYTHIC BUT ALSO VERY REAL HEROES, AND DON’T FORGET IT! WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE A “GREATEST GENERATION”. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE THOSE WHO RISE TO THE CHALLENGE. Just pray we still have a democratic country.
I know this war was and always will be controversial. But I thank you and your family and for your brother's service. I just wrote a comment at the top to say there are no suckers and losers. This is the force. By which we live and breathe, you're embraced.❤
TY for such a moving tribute to your heroic brother. So happy he survived & thrived! The saddest thing in D.C. is the Viet Nam Memorial...one weeps at each name....an entire generation of young men canceled.

It's water vapor, which builds up around the plane. I don't know the science behind it.
F-35s aren't spec'd to fly supersonic at sea level. Even if it could it wouldn't above highly populated Huntington Beach Ca. That was just water condensation.
not even close. Just condensation on the leading edge of the wings

It’s the vapor barrier not a sonic boom

@@SoLagLocalthe vapor barrier is the visual of the sonic boom
@@cylkbrunsonit’s very illegal to break the sound barrier over a populated area, if he does they will court marshal him
@@cylkbrunson transonic is not the same as supersonic.

THEY ARE
OUR MYTHIC BUT ALSO VERY REAL HEROES, AND DON’T FORGET IT! WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE A “GREATEST GENERATION”. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE THOSE WHO RISE TO THE CHALLENGE. Just pray we still have a democratic country.

Thank you isn’t enough.
