  • The stories and teachings of the Navajo female hooghan provide a foundation for every individual's emergence. It is connected to the development of the Diné human: from conception through the nine-month gestation period to birth. As soon as we take our first breath in this world, our walking path, hakékʼehashchíín, begins. Life from birth to old age mirrors a division of four: the four directions, four parts of the day, the four seasons of the year, etc. As we travel along our walking path, food consumption contributes to our continued development. We cook within our hope, hooghan yisdzáán, to nurture our bodies. We will share knowledge about the traditional home, life's walking bath, and demonstrate how to make gad and bááh dootłʼizh as well as contemporary foods such and tsííkááʼ sitʼé or jizésí. During the cooking presentation, we will present traditional food names, ingredients, utensils, and cooking verbs. All presentations are enhanced with vocabulary words.

There is no such thing as cedar in the southwest. Go research it. It is a misnomer.
